We'll just skip the 10 and 14 points from Melendez in the 2 previous games.

Oh, is he the reason people have called us a Final Four contender since November?

I’m honestly more embarrassed about this game than some of the biggest blowouts we have suffered in both basketball and football over the years. That shit was trashy across the board. We’ve got guys hitting people, a student section with idiotic chants, coach getting thrown out, 20+ mins of completely impotent play, other asshole fans chiming in, all to the tune of a big fat conference title damning L on our home court.

I actually agree with you here.

I quoted you almost verbatim. RJ and BBV weren’t the secret sauce to beating OSU no matter what kind of pseudo-insightful analysis you offered.

It’s more intellectually honest to quote someone verbatim rather than tweak it to make it look like an entirely different statement or mindset.

Yes, being down two bigger guys that can defend/rebound when playing a team that can throw some beef at you is a disadvantage. Add in Kofi’s unexpected foul trouble, and it had a big impact on the game.

We had 6’3” (maybe) DMW playing defense on guys even bigger than usual. Hawkins was playing the five. Admittedly, he did a pretty fair job of it for a guy that started the season playing a point forward role.

And let’s just throw out the fact that RJ has emerged as a real bright spot on both ends of the floor the last few weeks.

But yeah, there’s just no way these guys could have helped us get over the hump in a game we were down by 1 with under a minute to play with our All American big on the bench most of second half.

Show me exactly how I “tweaked it.”

No one is saying “they couldn’t have helped.” But thinking “we are in trouble without Melendez and BBV” is a bridge too far. I’m sure you envisioned Branham nearly tripling his scoring average against us. And Kofi fouling out.

They are complimentary players, and that’s being generous to BBV. We can beat OSU with or without them. We just had a shit night.

Enough to know that Melendez and BBV weren’t the secret sauce necessary to beat OSU.

Over the last handful of games Melendez has apparently exceeded 11 minutes once. BBV averages 2. Spare me with the “they were critical to our success” take. We just played poorly for 25 minutes and let the game get away from us. It happens.

Going small worked. Kofi was ineffective against double and quadruple teams.

Did you watch the Ohio State game?

If you were surprised by Branham I question how closely you follow this league honestly.

He’s playing about as well as anyone in the Big Ten right now.

We had no one to stop a 6'5" Branham. A 6'7" Melendez, with his quickness, may have been able to disrupt him a little.

Going into a game with a short bench is not ideal.

Not that closely to be truthful. He’s had a few good games in a row. Point still stands that Melendez and BBV were not the critical links to beating OSU.

If OSU and Illinois were to meet in the BTT title game, I’d bet Melendez and BBV being out wouldn’t move the betting line even a half a point.

As I said, BBV is getting about 2 mpg. Melendez has topped 11 once maybe twice. Mop up players average 6-8. COULD Melendez have helped? Sure. Was him being out the reason we lost, or did we “need” him to win. Probably not.
