Custard likes to post the stats of a close out sale on month old eggs..

The only number that matters?

The 30 year treasury at 5.31% - the highest it’s been since before 9/11

That’s certainly not the only number that matters and it’s not even historically high. More of an equalization of some historical lows since 2008 and 2020. Definitely not an emergency.

More importantly- this means US debt interest goes up. Remember the debt?

I guess you don’t think the debt is an emergency because you’ll be dead, it’s the kids problem!

It’s only an emergency when a Democrat occupies the Oval Office.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

You mean your cherry picked stat that you must point to because none of the other ones agree with you?

bond yields fell following the Treasury Department’s announcement of an increased buyback operation for longer-term debt.

Translation- they’re gonna try to print money to keep yields down. Wonder what Custard, who thinks yields are low enough and inflation isn’t bad, thinks about printing up half a trillion to stoke inflation?

Government bonds are under pressure from a wave of new corporate debt, including tech firms focused on artificial intelligence. Tech companies are issuing debt to fund the buildout of AI infrastructure, and those bonds are competing with government bonds for investors’ attention. Less demand for government bonds pushes prices lower, which pushes yields higher.

“Hyperscaler borrowing to fund AI infrastructure is competing for the same pool of buyers at the same moment governments need those buyers most,” Nigel Green, CEO at deVere Group, said in a note. “Crowd two urgent borrowers into one market and the price of patience goes up for everybody.”

Consumer interest tracks much closer to the 10 year bond and its yield hasn’t changed nearly as much as the 30

A small buyback program does not expand the money supply or demand in a way that would drive inflation higher. It’s not quantitative easing, buybacks use existing cash and this is a small scale buyback regardless.

Treasury doubles debt buybacks as Bessent moves to steady bond market

Quote
Moreover, the attempt to keep yields in check could end up making the Federal Reserve’s job of getting inflation back to 2% more difficult, said RSM’s chief economist, Joe Brusuelas. Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh has expressed a preference in the open market determining rates, and a move such as the one Treasury announced could artificially suppress yields and make inflation control more difficult.

“Bessent is a political actor. His interest is purely short term and is organized around the upcoming election and not a return to price stability,” Brusuelas wrote.

Economist Mohamed El-Erian wrote on X that the planned purchases are “small in both absolute terms and relative to net issuance” and more about “a broader deployment of ‘yield curve control.’”
