Pompous Castoffs from Appalachia that cheer for the best professional sports teams in Ohio. also played without their best player for almost the whole first half because he picked up two early fouls. They weren't anymore tick tack than ours, in fact I iirc one was pretty clearly a charge on Kofi. If Wesson hadn't gotten those I think the first half would have looked much different.
What I saw was mostly bigger, stronger players getting fouled more. It was comical watching Gio try to guard any of the O S U bigs. Of course he had to foul, there wasn't anything else he could do.
Kofi was no match for K. Wesson either.
There may have been a bit of usual Big Ten homerism but to me most of it was just being outmatched physically.
They played Wesson with two for a lot of the first half.
I can't count how many times our dude got hammered in the lane with no call.
At the end of the day it's the consistency that's the real issue. It's impossible to know on any given possession whether contact is going to be called a foul or whether the defender can knock you to the ground with no call, and that makes it hard to know how to play.
I definitely don't think they deserved 3x as many free throws as us.
It's tough though because we also didn't shoot well or rebound well - do those things and it doesn't matter - but I did think it felt like 5-on-7 in a way that it didn't when we played like, at Rutgers, at Iowa, at Michigan, at Maryland, etc.
