I remember when I caught flak for saying it was rife amongst the gays.

Alum once told me I was just disgusted by the pride parade because I was turned off by hygienic people.

There is a difference between the majority of people who got it were gay, and the majority of gay people got it.

Good pivot.  Of course the monkeypox was affecting the gay community two years ago.  But it wasn't spreading in an unchecked or widespread manner (aka "rife amongst the gays") in the US, as you suggested.  When confronted with the facts, your response was "I was joking."  That's fine, but there is no need to exaggerate.

Semantics much? I was joking and also accurate. They’re not mutually exclusive concepts. It was disproportionately affecting the gay community, by a lot, which we can all acknowledge, and I used the word “rife” to describe it. It’s really not a stretch or an insult to your gay son.
