I'm glad Ohio U gave the Illini a really tough game. Better Illinois faces adversity now and learns how to play through it. The first 2 games against the Washington Generals didn't offer much of a test.

Exactly. People make it sound like the Illini were the only team on the court that was playing 3 games in 3 days.
It's a condition that never gets replicated aside from the conference tournament. Illinois at 60% beating Ohio at 60% by 1 doesn't tell us much.

No, but the inability to adjust to what they were doing is concerning.

It’s always hard to know if it is one of those weird matchup things or an incredible personal performance or just a clunker of a game for a good team.

My feeling from watching the game wasn’t that I was watching a mid major playing lights out against a good team having a bad night. If I ignored that their jerseys said Ohio it looked to me like two good teams in a slug fest with some elite college level players making play after play.

As I had mentioned earlier I have been concerned about a really dynamic guard being able to beat us off the dribble and score/dish. I was thinking of the normal 5’8” guy who normally does it against us but this time it was a long PG who seems to be a pretty high level talent more in the mode of Ayo.

We know Illinois and the guys who guarded him are damned good defenders. There didn’t appear to be any issue with effort or intensity on the part of the Illini.  Think it was just a really good performance from Ohio, particularly Preston and the Man Bun guy. Guess we’ll find out if it was a one off performance or they’re actually pretty good. But still fairly sure Illinois isn’t overrated. It was nice to close to tough game like that without Feliz.

Preston was just a nightmare matchup for us, especially given the tired legs. He was just too big for Frazier. Maybe on fresh legs, Ayo guards him, but I think Brad wanted to conserve Ayo’s energy. DMW is really who should have been guarding Preston, but that would mean sitting Miller.

I think they should have tried Trent-Ayo-DMW-Grandison-Kofi more, that would have given us the best defensive matchups.

I don't understand the 3 games in 3 days excuse either. That was the same case for Ohio too, and they had to travel for their 2nd game. They simply kicked it into another gear against us.

I'll tip my cap to Preston. I thought Ayo did a decent job when on him, but he hit some tough shots over him and the help defense of Kofi. Even his final shot was pretty good defense by us, but like the rest of the game whatever he threw up was no doubt going in. Kid looks like a legit NBA prospect in my eyes.

Ohio has all the makings of that 13/14 seed no one wants to see come tourney time if they win the MAC, as long as Preston is beasting it up for them night in, night out. I'd love to see how they do the rest of the way.

Pretty awesome to see the Illini back to national relevance. Figures it would be 2020, basically bizarro sports season. Is there a general discussion thread? Didn’t see one.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.
