Baseball Cards
« on: May 12, 2023, 12:05:50 AM »
Something I randomly thought about was what I grew up following in baseball cards (player cards I wanted). Then it was players in more than one sport (ie. Bo Jackson, Deon Sanders, etc)

But I remembered my baseball card collection. Did anyone else collect baseball cards growing up and have cards they looked for? Still have them?

I have a couple of boxes (or had). Hopefully they are in my garage. Lots of Cal Ripken, Roger Clemens, Frank Thomas, Ken Griffey, Chipper Jones rookies. Have a Dan Marino rookie card, but unfortunately not mint. I’d guess the value of my collection is near 3k. Sure hope I find them because I can’t remember seeing them since moving to Itasca.

Have a Mickey Mantle and Roberto Clemente too. Fairly valuable, but later career cards.

Sounds about like my collection. Also don’t know where they are, but probably in the garage.

One of my close friends is a trader. He's a big sports guy, but has no emotional attachment to any of the cards he owns. He's had some really valuable ones over the years. Buys them by the hundreds, picks out what is valuable, sells those individually on Ebay. Makes some good money doing it. I'll have to ask what his most valuable cards are.

The next big superstar, going to lead the Bears to glory, or can't throw an accurate pass. One of the two. I'll ask.

My cards were well handled and long, long gone. They were meant to be used and traded.
We had no idea that someone would actually try to keep a card in valuable condition.

I always used the cards from the shit players to pin to my bike and make a motorcycle sound.

My dad supposedly had a bunch of good cards that were lost when the farmhouse burned to the ground in 1972.

My dad said his “mother probably ruined a large handful of Mickey Mantle rookie cards in the washing machine.”

I sorted through the stack and pulled out the good ones, have an Ozzie Smith Rookie card. But they aren't in mint condition so probably worthless, even being in at least good or very good condition.

Had a pretty good collection from the late 50s and early 60s.  Liked the 1960 card design in particular.  I also seem to remember the Luis Aparicio card being a hard one to find at the time.

Sold most of my remaining cards a few years ago.
