Did you miss The Last Dance? Sure seems like Pippen is still getting skewered for quitting on his team.
As far as there 'never having been an inkling of this before', that likely speaks to her toughness. She was literally sexually abused by the very people meant to take care of her body. She is under enormous pressure that there's no way you or I could possibly understand. Despite all that, she seems relatively well adjusted and kind - but JFC, who wouldn't have mental health and psychological issues after that?
Well, considering this happened only after a bad vault, maybe she is using it as a shield at this time?
there has never been an inkling of any of this from her before.
I'll respond to both of you here: there has never been an inkling of any of this from her before. She has a shitty first vault and then this just pops up conveniently enough that she can hide behind it. Just like Scottie Pippen being a whiny bitch because Phil designed the play for Kukoc. The Olympics is where you make your money. Suck it up, hon. You fucked up one vault. It's ok. No one will hold it against you. Stiffing your teammates is completely different though.
You're criticizing her because you lack empathy and emotional intelligence. You're accusing her of making something up, but the actual undeniable truth here is: you have no fucking idea if that's true. None whatsoever.
I watched it. Entertaining, but a shamelessly biased portrayal of those teams without question. Those people are childish too, if they're skewering him for suffering a serious health issue at a bad time. Fuck them. That's childish and toxic too, not something to be emulated.
I am not going to waste empathy on some wealthy gymnast who chooses to quit after a bad vault. The truth is, you have no fucking clue if she is playing you. Not like it has not happened before.
Who knows? It’s not my place to make that judgment or criticize the choice she made for herself. I can’t imagine she WANTED this. But I’m glad she had the courage to do what she needed to and didn’t prioritize winning a gold medal for YOU over her mental health. There’s a lot to be learned from that.
We all know Pippen was a whiny bitch who was pissed Kukoc was getting the ball. He still is about it.
If you leaf back through all your Simone books, her diaries, blogs & newsletters, you'll find hints Frankly, I can't believe a guy as well-versed on All Things Simone could have missed it.
She didn't screw over me. I didn't bet on it. She screwed over her teammates who had been working towards this for their whole lives.
There isn’t any possible way for her to be “playing me”, because as I’ve mentioned - I don’t believe she owes me a fuckin’ thing. I think she should prioritize herself over emotional children who will criticize her for doing so, and I’m glad she did.
You are assuming she is being honest. I'm not.
I won't pass judgement on Biles as there is no way to know whether the situation was a mental health crisis, or her inability to overcome adversity or face competitive shortfalls. As a human, she deserves all of the space and grace that she wants or needs, but as a multi-million dollar endorsement receiving athlete, you just don't get to say, "I can't go today". World-class athletes get paid insane amounts of money because they CAN look failure and adversity in the eye and persevere. You don't get to be treated like an "average Joe" and live in a 7+ figure income world. People who get paid at that level are always expected to answer the bell.
