For someone who believes the process should be allowed to play out for TSJ, I guess not so much so for Whitman. Eh ?

If Whitman was aware only of a report of a sexual assault allegation but not either of the charges filed in early Dec, what should Whitman have done ?
Waiting for information would be prudent.
I get the impression that it's possible that Whitman was not aware of the rape allegation and the possibility always exists that the assault allegation may not result in a charge.
If it takes close to 4 months from the alleged incident for Whitman to learn of a felony charge that he was not privy to, I'm not surprised that there was no prepared statement.

Whether or not this was the scenario, I'm not sure anyone other than a few individuals would know.

It is readily apparent the DIA did not know that the investigation was still ongoing and thought it was closed. Thus they were surprised when the criminal complaint was filed. That's the part I find really problematic. Others obviously don't.

How do you suggest they should know if they were never told? Like Whitman said, he reached out numerous times and was told nothing. He have psychic abilities?!
I didn’t know that. Thanks!

For one, we do not know how often the cops called their cops to ask what was going on.

Nonetheless, there are ways to find things out, like if any investigation is active or not.

You can't tell me that they would have run that Scariest Thing in College Basketball thing on social media with him on it if they thought the investigation was ongoing and this could happen.

Exactly, we don’t know, so how are you suggesting they didn’t somehow? He obviously didn’t know because he wasn’t told anything. He stated he did and I take him at his word. Why wouldn’t you? He said the DIA’s job isn’t to investigate because they don’t have the resources for such things. Then 3 months went by and he didn’t hear anything until last week. I don’t see why this is controversial and people grasping at straws to find something wrong when there doesn’t have to be at all.

Because the fact is they were caught with their pants down.

TSJ is the face of the program. They obviously would want to know what was going on with the investigation. Did they try other avenues to try and find stuff out since the local cops were not talking? Maybe hire someone local with connections to find out about the status of the investigation?

Think other B1G programs would have been surprised
by the news last week if this happened to their top player? I think some would and some wouldn't.

Or he was not informed that the case was open or closed, or that the case was open and there was not enough information being given for Whitman to think the misdemeanor, the only allegation that he said he was aware of, may result in charges.

And somebody says to the Kansas police that we’ve got people “sniffing around” and get hit with interfering with a police investigation?! No thanks.

Edit- when they (Kansas police) had something to tell us, they did. Plain and simple. Then Whitman acted which was appropriate. Again, there doesn’t have to be anything wrong here or some conspiracy or cover up.

I’d agree it does seem from the outside looking in that more could have been done to keep tabs on the situation. From the way things were handled on our end leading up to this, it sure seems like the due diligence they did perform and the conversations that did happen gave them absolutely no inkling that something of this nature was possible, let alone imminent. It is a strange situation for sure. I don’t have a problem giving Whitman the benefit of the doubt.

Whitman should sue the county and DA where this originated. Total negligence and slander. At least that's what I'd do.

I was a vocal early Weber doubter, my user name is a pot shot at Weber, I clowned Guenther and MT every chance I got, and I own an Illini forum made up of outcasts who got run off other forums for being too realistic and honest about Illinois athletics.

Whitman has earned the benefit of the doubt in his tenure here. My tune may certainly change depending on how things go.

Whitman gets a pass, BU gets a pass...both have done more for the ILLINI than anyone since arguably Henson.

Mostly true, I guess. I don’t remember you clowning MT. I did and I was pretty sure you were among the crowd chastising me for it. Maybe I’m wrong. But when it comes to us here at the outcast post, you and JJ would be the first two people I would expect to see coddling the nuts of the DIA or a coach.
