So.

You made it sound like Durbin went out and hired her.

did Dick Durbin have any reason to oppose the initial appointment of Sheri Mecklenburg prior to revelations of misconduct?

👀

No, Senator Dick Durbin's office did not have a reason to oppose the appointment at the time. Durbin’s office stated that they had no knowledge of the misconduct until [the news of the unsealed grand jury transcripts and court hearings emerged.

Timing: The temporary Department of Justice (DOJ) detail began in February, three months prior to the misconduct revelations in May.

The Allegations: The misconduct involved improper vouching and actions during the 2025 grand jury proceedings for the "Broadview 6" case, details that were not publicly known until unsealed by U.S. District Judge April Perry.

Termination: Following the revelation of the grand jury transcripts, Durbin's office immediately terminated the detail.

Durbin, as the ranking member on Senate Judiciary, had the approval authority regarding the detailing to her position as minority counsel for Senate Judiciary.
Her detail was approved, not rejected, and she was given the position.

Durbin also exercised termination authority.

The DOJ personnel wearing the clown shoes just got fired by ............
Dick Durbin.

Durbin gave her a job with Senate Judiciary when she left the US Attorney's office in Chicago earlier this year after 20 years there.

Wrong. The DoJ had temporarily assigned Sheri Mecklenburg to work for Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats. That relationship has obviously been terminated.

👀
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri Mecklenburg was assigned to Sen. Dick Durbin’s U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee via a standard Department of Justice (DOJ) detail rather than being hired directly by his office. The detail was ended, and she was dismissed in May 2026 amid misconduct allegations in the "Broadview Six"

Anyone shocked by this turn of events? DOJ personnel may as well just wear clown shoes to court these days.

'Broadview Six' case will be dropped after closed-door hearing about grand jury transcripts

They should apply for funds from Trump's Insurrection Slush Fund.
