Here’s where I’ll concede that it still could be (partly) on the McCaskeys. Do I think the McCaskeys are still sticking their noses into football operations? No. Are they cheap when it comes to free agency? Not really. Anymore.
But it is possible that their frugalness still leaks into who is chosen to run the operation. It doesn’t mean that the right hires can’t be made, it just means we might have a bunch of first timers because they don’t want to pay coaches.
It’s also possible Poles was given a shortlist by George (or that George would have to at least “sign off” on the HC.) Picking a defensive coach was an odd choice in 2023 and having a young QB you gave up two 1sts for. Also perhaps more than coincidental thst Poles and Flus have the same agent.
So yes, the stench of the McCaskeys may still permeate Halas Hall in some ways. It doesn’t mean that good hires can’t still be made. It’s looking like Flus, Getsy, and Williams could have all been better hires.
I am not writing off Flus yet, but it’s definitely trending bad. I was on board totally with the methods of the rebuild, but if you draft/sign the wrong players it won’t matter anyway. A bit early to write off Poles’ players, but so far not trending in the right direction either.

Wasn't Eberlose hired 2 days after Poles was hired?

What’s your point?

Spiegel just said his sources told him Flus was 100% Poles’ guy.

How could he do interviews, etc. in just 2 days?

It’s possible if he only had a few candidates, which is kind of what was reported. Looking like a mistake not to interview McDaniel.

owners are typically way way way more involved in the decision making stuff than you would think

I feel like that was probably once the case with the McCaskeys. I don’t think that’s the case anymore, but I do think their frugalness and mentality could still taint what goes on. It doesn’t mean you can’t hire the right people, just maybe makes your window a little smaller. JMO
