Title: Will there be a basketball season? If so what’s it going to look like?
Post by: Custard on August 14, 2020, 02:04:39 PM
I personally don’t see it happening barring some vaccine or miracle cure. Everyone is scared shitless of the liability.

My guess.

Best case - a short conference only season starting in early 2021.  Maybe push the tourney into April.

My guess is the same.  If they do start, I wouldn't be surprised to see a May tourney.

Don't see how you can trademark that, but not an expert....

Basketball is way easier than football. 13 players + like 10 staff people.

Would love to see them try to do a bubble somewhere. Classes ("Classes") remotely and play a game every second-fourth night. Single round robin the B1G in 40 days.

It's starting to sound more optimistic about the season being doable.  Non-conference scheduling is already taking cues right off this.  Sounds like we will see a lot of 4 to 8 team pods at certain locations with round robin type formats prior to the conference schedule starting.  The only negative if it is one is that games will be played in bunches similar to a Big Ten Tournament format with longer breaks between, which I am more than okay with.

Depending on Curbelo's and Miller's impact this could be Illinois greatest roster ever. I already like it more than the 05 roster by a rather wide margin.

The 21 day sit out rule will never allow for a season worth having. Even the current half ass football season is misleading and I’m skeptical they will be able to finish with case counts rising

Any truth to the rumor I heard on airwaves today that BIG is reconsidering the 21 days?

The basis for the 21 days, myocarditis being very common post infection, has proven to be anything but in Covid infected athletes.

So it looks like we are attempting a 27 game schedule with the following 7 non conference games scheduled.

Nov 25 Home - North Carolina A&T
Nov 26 Home - Ohio
Nov 27 Home - Wright State
Dec 2 (Indy) - Baylor
Dec. 8th @ Duke
Dec 12th @ Missouri

And then quarantine because there's no way you can leave Columbia clean.
