Anything other than a patient observer would be really weird.

I’ll tell you this, he’s already “good enough” to play quarterback in the NFL. It’s just TBD as to whether or not he’ll be a high level passer. I’d take him over shlubs like Mayfield and Wentz. Hell, I’d probably take him over Russell Wilson at this point.

I’d also take Fields over Kyler Murray. At least I know Fields will be focused on football.

The “optimistic” view is based on hope. It’s not rooted in really anything as a passer yet. It’s like saying you’re “optimistic” about a QB that hasn’t show really anything yet in the way of passing the ball consistently. It’s based on what you “hope” he does. If anything, what he’s shown in the passing game should honestly be discouraging and pessimistic. Why not just be patient and see what happens.

People were optimistic with about every single QB that’s been drafted in the first round in the history of football. We see how that’s turned out. He hasn’t really proven anything yet in the QB passing department honestly.

Lol, a 24 minute video analyzing 6 preseason passes? No thanks. I’ll wait for the analyses of games 1, 2, and 3 of the regular season.

I’ve seen enough “wow” moments even as a passer to think it can get better. Sure, we’d all like to see more consistency. He’s still relatively inexperienced. Young QBs struggling with timing and accuracy isn’t exactly an anomaly.

Again, I’d take him for sure over some other starters simply because of the explosiveness of his game. And I know he’ll be working to get better, not playing Call of Duty.

Presumably the defenses will be harder to read in the regular season, Tempo.

Fields will be allowed to run in the regular season. That’ll loosen things up. Expect some big plays. Expect some bad ones.

He should have been lighting it up on his down field throws and he was not. This is an issue that should not have to be worked on in season. That is what the off- and pre-seasons are for.

He is going to have to run for 100 yards a game again for them to have any chance of winning.

He threw like 9 passes in the preseason. R-E-L-A-X to quote Aaron Rodgers.

Exactly. He needed reps and did not get them.

When, not if, he gets his bell rung running the ball, you better not whine that they should have had a better backup QB plan. Criticize the coaching staff for not giving him the reps necessary for him to be an actual NFL QB.

If you’d take a moment to pause your hyperbolic rants, you’d have noticed that I said I think he should have played more in the preseason.

They called them for him last weekend and we saw what happened if you watched the 24 minute video. Poor decision making and worse throws.

I know you did while still defending the QB for poor play in the limited time he was in there.

Why would I spend a half hour of my life fretting over 4 incompletions in a preseason game?

I defended him? Where? He wasn’t good against Buffalo. He also played 13 snaps. In a practice game. I’m not going to get wound up about it unless I see some extended poor play in the regular season.

Why would you spend a half hour fluffing a QB who can't make reads or throws?

Didn't the guy say on certain throws he was forcing the ball instead of doing pre snap reads or progressions to see the open man?

Also said he had a couple of throws that were really off.

Lol yeah.

By my count he probably blamed mostly Fields for 2 plays. He spent at least as much time questioning the scheme and design as he did critiquing Fields. A lot of the routes did look weird. He also said “no one is winning on the outside.” He also mentioned not to freak out, could look a lot better game 1. The 3rd and 11 was probably the one really bad play Fields had. I’m not gonna freak out over a couple/three bad plays in an extremely limited appearance in preseason.

That you are not freaking out is apparent. That you are not considering the whole body of work to date is also apparent by your limiting your comment to 2 preseason games.

If the Bears come out against GB and are going 3 and out the first few drives, I’ll start to get concerned. Till then, I’m not losing any sleep over a sloppy 3-4 plays in preseason.

What’s happened in the past is almost irrelevant. He’s at least got NFL players around him now. He hasn’t even played a single snap that actually mattered with the improved roster. Way too early to tie myself up in knots.

I can’t think of a single quarterback who’s had a greater effect on his franchise right off the bat than Joe Burrow. Glad your expectations are “reasonable.”

And secondly, Fields has never had Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Tyler Boyd, their #3 would have been the Bears’ best receiver last year.

Then you would have 3 of them yelling at him on the sidelines.

Semi-reasonable enough. Keep in mind, this roster/franchise as constructed is still in its infancy. I hope you’re not expecting the ‘84 49ers out of the gate.

If by the 2nd half of the 2nd season of the rebuild we’re not seeing real improvement, criticism will start holding more weight. I don’t think it’s realistic to think everything is fixed by game 1 of season 2.
