I believe Buddy is doing a retirement tour. Saw him at his place here in Chicago about a year ago. He sang but didn’t play.

Not that there is anything wrong with it?

I’d have to think he’s the last of the really really legendary blues men. I’m not aware of any others that are still alive.

The best was seeing him at the Crystal Bay, he had the wireless, and he gets up and goes to sit in the crowd, still playing. Then he gets up from that seat, walks out of the auditorium, still playing, and plays a hand of blackjack

So I nailed a third of it without intending to. I should have given it an honest shot!

I’d have to think he’s the last of the really really legendary blues men. I’m not aware of any others that are still alive.

I really like those guys, but while it was never a "priority" to go see them, I managed to see
BB King (Champaign 1986)
Bo Diddley (Boston 1992)
Buddy Guy (Tahoe x2, mid 90's)
John Lee Hooker (several X, Catalyst Santa Cruz and John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room)

One of my worst musical moments, had a bad first date, we are in Palo Alto, and I offer to take us to go see music, The Radiators were playing in SF, John Lee Hooker was playing in Santa Cruz. She chose the Radiators. Turns out this girl has zero taste in music, is into Country. While the Radiators aren't exactly my scene (they have people who follow them around like the Dead so it's a very in crowd weird thing) I do like them, but with a drag of a date we didn't even stay that long.

Well, it turns out the Stones were in town to do a show, I was gonna go to that until the show got cancelled because Mick was sick. So I ended up having this date that night instead.

Keith had nothing to do so he went to Santa Cruz and played the entire set with John Lee Hooker....

That line was hilarious in 40 year old virgin. Wonder how that would play in 2023?

Is there a reason you do this?

Respect mostly. If I find myself in the area, I usually stop. Done the same for Emmitt Till, also buried in Alsip.

If I find myself on Roosevelt Road in Hillside, I often stop to see Al Capone. Not out of “respect,” but just because it’s kinda cool.

I could show you a large handful of Chicago’s most famous gravesites. Been to George Halas’ a couple times. Harry Carrey. Mayor Washington. I’ve tried tracking down Benji Wilson, but could never find it.

Also several famous mobsters buried in Mt. Carmel with Capone. A couple of them he had killed off. One of the ones believed to have killed Dean O’Banion (whose murder has been depicted, mimicked in several movies), is buried a couple hundred feet from Capone. O’Banion is buried in the same cemetery. Along with Himey Weiss, said to be the only man Al Capone ever feared. Sam Giancana also buried there.

That's pretty damn cool, Tempo.

My favorite one is Resurrection Mary. Chicago’s most famous ghost. Obviously being a “ghost” there is no exact identity of Mary. But the favorite is a young woman buried in an unmarked grave next to her mom and dad in Resurrection Cemetery. I’m assuming most of you have heard of her?

One hot day a few years ago I was trying to find the unmarked grave the young woman was buried in. I couldn’t find it, got in my car then started checking out another area. There it was. I took some pics, soaked it in for a minute; then as I turned around I immediately noticed a deer staring right at me. I mean, piercingly. Kind of eerie. I often keep bananas, granola bars, and bottled water for the homeless people at intersections. I grabbed a granola bar to see if the deer would eat it. It did.

Pretty eerie moment even though I don’t actually believe in ghosts.

I also know a handful of famous homes. A couple of Al Capone’s, Emmitt Till, Sam Giancana, the Obamas. Been to the Home Alone house. The tracks where Tom Cruise beat the train in the Porsche.  The HS where the Breakfast Club was shot. Random, but fun stuff.

It’s like a state patrol headquarters or something now. Or was. I believe they only did the outdoor shots there, and the indoor scenes elsewhere.
