That’s pretty hilarious
-
Not to sound too much like a dipshit, but on what grounds can they invalidate tickets?
-
They should have pulled a Guenther Jr. and price gouged them.
Dumbfucks.
-
This is pretty outrageous. And so on brand for Iowa.

If they falsely bought the tickets claiming to be the Boys and Girls Club, they are getting what they deserve.

Sure seems like they outsmarted themselves.

Seemed like the typical discourse we have here.

I did. Someone from Orange Krush buying tickets claiming to be from the Boys and Girls club seems pretty damn fraudulent to me.
-
Kind of stupid, but not sure how it would be fraudulent. In the past, they made up some fictional name. Apparently the group discount is the same. It did give the Iowa AD an excuse to invalidate the tickets.
-
Fuck Iowa and anyone who went there

Yep. Fuck the Krush geeks. Lying about donating tickets to a charity is pretty dispicable.
-
Well clearly no one here understands how we always have an ILL INI chant going in CHA. Took them long enough to figure it out. Fucking losers.
-

Another gem from Nichi.
-
I am going to try and be objective here.
It was not smart for Krush to pose as another organization. I get why they did it, but perhaps make up a fake name or just be honest (and let Iowa deny the ticket sales and expose them). However, Iowa waiting until the final hour to void them and already have them donated to the Boys/Girls club was calculated and wrong. That caused Krush to lose their charter bus depost of 6K.
If Iowa had any class or professionalism, they should have followed up back when the order was put in months ago. Or simply reprimand Orange Krush, honor the tickets, and tell them how to properly order them in the future. Iowa could have handled it better, but they didn't. It's because they do not want 200 Illini fans in the stands. I see through their bullshit.
That being said - fuck Iowa.
-
They do this every year. Pose as some other fictional group; enter dressed as the other team's fans, then reveal themselves as Krush after the game starts.
This year they called themselves 'the Illinois Chapter of the Boys and Girls Club"; which does not exist. It is a fictional group.
There are "Boys and Girls Clubs of 'fill in a location'." There is also "The Illinois Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs."
Perhaps the name raised a red flag that took 4 months to investigate?
Iowa implied Krush obtained a discount by posing as a charity. That is false. The discount is available to any group of 20 or more. Besides, Krush is a 501(c)3 origination. If they got some sort of charitable org discount; due diligence would call for submitting a correct name and an identification number with the application.
The tickets were purchased in October. Buses were chartered for 200. Individuals booked hotel rooms. Iowa waited until yesterday to cancel the tickets.
Stupid to use a name similar to a real organization, but at the end of the day, amounts to college fun and games they have been doing for 20 years, not fraud.
-
Sounds like both sides handled the whole thing poorly.
-
One other thing. There is a reason Krush uses a fake name for their annual road trip. If they use their real name; the other schools won't sell them the tickets.
If using a fake group name to purchase tickets is fraudulent; they have been commiting fraud for 20 years.

I wonder if there is something in the terms and conditions that the Krush had to agree to but violated by using a fictitious group name. If not, then Iowa is in the wrong. If group tickets are available to the public, why does it matter what the name of your group is?
As you mentioned, this is nothing new. The fact that Iowa decides that this is the year to do last minute vetting of group tickets is highly suspect. And the game happens to be against Illinois.

What no one here understands is how group tickets work.
-
Maybe this will spur the team on to beat the Iowans' asses.
-
Obviously they still pissed about this dude.

No, the one about 5 rows up, about 1/2 inch from the edge of the photo.
-
If this goes to court, Iowa should hire Nichi to represent the Krush. Immediate victory for Iowa.
-
Not even Iowans want to be in Iowa.

They are making people forget how bad Bobby Hull was 50 years ago.
-
Apparently, on one of their recent road trip pranks, they misrepresented themselves as a Boy Scout group. Another time, they pretended to be a family reunion.
Should we feel morally outraged about those too?
The first mistake they made was getting caught. Using a better fake name, like posing as a family reunion again, or something like that, would have prevented that.
The second mistake was whining and crying and blaming Iowa when they got caught. They should have come up with a plan b instead.

Yep, and I’m the one that “needs help.”

Time to disband these geeks.
I hope Iowa runs up the score today. Complete loser geeks. Truly representative of Illinois athletics. And Nichi, stop defending these cheats.

Seems to be quite the overreaction.

Third mistake was apologizing, but maybe someone in "university management" made them do it?
This allows Illinois to do the same thing in the future, should it choose to do so, without looking hypocritical?
-
If not for the discount (eligible doesn't mean you automatically get a discount), they lied and said they were "a Boys & Girls Club chapter in Illinois" because that organization would be more likely to be able to get such a large group of tickets most likely in a better location particularly at Iowa. Seems reasonable that Iowa would want to do something special for the kids (meet players, tour the court, vouchers for food, etc) as Iowa athletics has a deep bond with kids charities and their own children's hospital. That is probably how this started to unravel.
I am also guessing the OK charitable organization is getting some scrutiny. Seems like they are spending the bulk of their budget on the game each year vs actual community service.
While not a huge deal in the scheme of things, I have 0 sympathy for the OK in this.

Nichi is the expert on all of those things.
But he was wrong yet again, so now he has to deflect.
"posing as a family reunion again" -- Nichi is probably one of those people who uses the Phil McCracken joke and then tries to keep using it with the same group of people, wondering why it doesn't work.

A couple relevant points. Krush has done the same sort of thing 19 to 20 times in the past. I think I read they went to Purdue last year. On one the recent trips they as frigging Boy Scouts to obtain tickets.
Apparently nobody vetted them all these years. Maybe Iowa did because it was the Boys and Girls club?
The order was placed in September, they got the tickets in October, and Iowa revoked them 3 days before the game.
Also, at some point, after they are seated, Krush unmasks themselves. So the host schooI knows they got duped. I don't recall anyone ever expressing moral outrage or accusing them of fraud. Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention?
"Historically, the Orange Krush has used elaborate disguises to gain access to away games. In the spring of 2005, 100 members posed as "Youth Action", a fictitious Chicago-area youth-group, to get tickets to a game at Michigan. The Krush was offered a tour of the Crisler Arena, but declined. Instead, they were also offered a photo opportunity with then coach Tommy Amaker, which the Krush took advantage of before the game. The Krush did not reveal themselves as Orange-clad crazies until just before tip-off."
"Opposing Universities have imposed restricted ticket sales for games against Illinois because of this."
-
Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention?
You still don't get it. But that's to be expected.
Have someone explain it to you.
-
Based on what I read, it looks like they may have netted a little over $2600 for local charities to qualify for the trip. That is not much. It appears they spent over 11000 on tickets and buses. That raised my eye brows.
The annual road trip prank is just one event, so I would guess they raised other money for charities? Also did community service projects?
-
I'm more concerned about the kids in uniforms showing up for 40 minutes than the kids in t shirts.
-
As a Krush member, you'll have the opportunity to:
Invade an opponent's arena on an Orange Krush road trip
Earn special awards as a top money raiser
Lead the State Farm Center in cheering on our team to a victory
Rush the court for a Big Ten Championship

its a charitable organization, would be a big loss to the community
-
I would have told them to not post that apology, and they should file a small claims action in Champaign County for the charter money. Reasonable and detrimental reliance after Iowa sent them the tickets, etc.
It's stupid of them not to set up fake entities or mailing addresses near other B1G campuses in advance if they're going to use group discounts, but it's not fraud unless this public university is discriminating on the basis of what is ultimately speech and making assumptions about who's using the tickets.
-

1/5 of the expense budget on what is, ultimately, a major annual marketing venture seems fairly uncontroversial.

Except that annual venture is stupid and now ineffective.
