I expect to us at least make a bowl game every 4 out of 5 years on average
No reason why we can't be a consistent 7-5 team with a 8-4 thrown in every now and then and even a surprise 9-3
I could see a down year being a 5-7 due to being young
I just see no reason why we can't go into BIG TEN play 3-0 or 2-1 every year
Last year we should have gone in 3-0 but that damn loss to eastern Michigan.
There's no reason why we can't be a KANSAS ST type program, from what they have had the last 8 seasons. Theu can't compete in the upper echelon of the BIG 12 with Oklahoma and Texas but year in year out they win 6-8 games, with a random 9 wins and finish mid pack of the BIG 12
-
I believe this is what most fans ever wanted for Illinois football
-
This year? Based on no non-con games? 0-10....unless Rutgers gets added to the schedule....then 1-9.

At Rutgers to open the season.
No bowl game.
0-9.

Not looking promising for Lovie’s boys
-
so whats bowl eligibility going to be like?
https://bigten.org/news/2020/7/9/big-ten-statement-on-2020-21-fall-season.aspx
asking for friends of other schools, obviously
-
I say 2-8
-
I’ll be shocked if they actually have Big Ten football.
-
If they actually have a season, I see us picking off 2 teams at home and getting sandblasted in most of the away games.
HOWEVER, Covid-19 is a huge variable. The wrong 5 players test positive and suddenly a mid-D1 defense has been brought down to our level.
-
There are too many variables to have expectations. Even if there is a season, participation by players will be optional. If this were a normal season; I would expect some improvement over last season.
-
Cleveland.com preseason poll. Dead last in the West, but we did get more votes than Rutgers got in the East.
• Illinois, a bowl team last season, was the only team in the West not to receive higher than a fourth-place vote. However, that was a step up after receiving every last place vote in each of the last two preseason polls.

The tide is turning!

Is this a trick question?
At least once a (00-x9) decade, Illinois pulls off an absolute stunner in a football game. Given how unusual 2020 has been thus far, perhaps the Illini will be able to pull off another stunner. Hey, isn't Wisconsin's starting QB out after having surgery? Damn, the Illini just can't catch a break.
Since 1970, a few of the mind-boggling games involving Illinois include:
1971 vs. #17 Purdue, a 21-7 win after the Illini had opened the season with 6 straight losses while being outscored 176-30.
1984 Rose Bowl vs. UCLA, a 9-45 #4 Illinois loss that wasn't as close as the final score. I didn't say the stunner was always a good thing, lol
1990 vs. #9 Colorado, a 23-22 win for the Illini. CU would finish the bowl season ranked #1 in the AP poll and #2 in the Coaches poll.
1992 at #21 Ohio State, an 18-16 win for Illinois
2007 at #1 Ohio State, a 28-21 win for Illinois. WTF happened here?
2019 vs. #6 Wisconsin, a 24-23 win for Illinois. Caught the Badgers looking ahead to their game at undefeated Ohio State the next week.
The 2020 season kicks off a new (00-x9) decade. The last century, the Roaring 20s were pretty good for the Illini. So there's that possibility...if the second coming of Red Grange is on the roster at some point.
