I mostly went to vote for my buddy who was on the ballot for county Sheriff. So disgusted with Sleepy Joe’s administration/Dem messaging disaster that I *almost* voted a straight party ticket “against my best interests” 🤣

I looked at some major news pages earlier today for shits and grins. Look at this fear/outrage mongering from the front page of MSNBC:

"Pritzker campaigned to amend the 1970 charter to allow a progressive rate. He contended that anyone making less than $250,000 — 97% of taxpayers — would pay the current rate or less. Those with incomes over $250,000 would pay higher incremental rates, topping out at 7.99%.Nov 5, 2020"

Yes, everyone pays property taxes even if it is passed through rent.

Another one of these fools who doesn't believe in economics.

If the state raises your property taxes, you can *try* to increase the rent your tenants pay, but it comes down to supply and demand, if there is nobody willing to pay the increase, you will have to eat the tax yourself.

Thought experiment - if the state *lowers* property taxes, do landlords lower the rents?

Trump is as bad at communicating; just a lot more entertaining. Biden is annoyingly bad. And Kamala Harris would make great host of "Kids Say" or "Sesame Street."

Biden and Harris have done pretty well governing considering the utter mess they inherited.

Desantis, otoh, is very articulate and likely dangerous. The "woke mob" are not just people who he disagrees with; they are the enemy and apparently not welcome.

It's going up after the forest preserve ref passed.

Still paying it when paying rent.

One thing that I had not factored into rental rates was the COVID eviction moratoriums. BigPAThey is too lazy to find an article on how that has impacted rents (if at all) in the area.

I am not "fearful". Nor am I outraged. Concerned is a better word. Desantis has shown a willingness to abuse the law to remove elected officials for political reasons.

He also supports draconian measures to infringe freedom of speech & assembly and voting rights; some of which have been overturned by courts.

Also favors reducing debt by cutting programs instead of raising revenue. It seems clear that the cuts would not include reducing funds for law enforcement and border security.

He also generally opposes regulations that increase the cost of doing business.

Pretty much looks like a Trump with sharper claws and fangs.

I dunno bout nichi, but Ray believes programs that benefit people should be at least as adequately funded as those intended to punish wrong doing.

Free markets works best for some things, central planning is better for others, like healthcare, education, transportation, public safety.

Privatizing prisons, using prisoners as slave labor for private companies, tax increment financing, a handful of huge companies dominating market share, are not necessarily examples of free markets.

It's also interesting that deficit and debt reduction only occurs when we elect Democrats.

"There is no reason why, in a society which has reached the general level of wealth ours has, (the certainty of a given minimum of sustenance) should not be guaranteed to all without endangering general freedom; that is: some minimum of food, shelter and clothing, sufficient to preserve health. Nor is there any reason why the state should not help to organize a comprehensive system of social insurance in providing for those common hazards of life against which few can make adequate provision." -- Hayek

You need to change your name to the straw man.

If we lowered property taxes and gave everyone 20 million dollars, rents would go up.
If we raised property taxes but zeroed out everyone's bank account, rents would go down.

The job is to tease out the effect of a property tax increase disregarding other impacts. In the end, in a rational free market, landlords will charge as much as renters will pay, regardless of their costs, so property taxes have no direct impact.

As an indirect impact, if property tax increases made being a landlord a bad financial decision, properties would be taken out of the rental stock and sold, and that in the end might have an impact on rents - but that's not your argument. Your argument was that property tax increases are passed on dollar for dollar to renters, which is not true.

You are incoherent.

Simple example again. County raises taxes. Landlord tells tenant "I am raising your rent to pay for my taxes". Tenant can either decide to pay it, or say "no, if you raise my rent, I'm walking"

That's economics.

If I am a landlord and I have to put on a new roof, does the tenant pay? No. If the landlord wants to raise the rent to get the income to pay it, they can try. But the tenant pays rent, determined  by the market, not the landlord's costs.

The ironic thing about democrats is they claim to be looking out for the best interest of the lower class, but their energy policies harm the lower class more than anyone.

Wealthy people can afford $5/gallon gas, and high heating bills.  The lower class are affected disproportionately.  So why would any person making under 50,000 ever vote for Democrats?

The only good thing Trump did in office was the Supreme Court.  Roe V Wade dead.  Affirmative Action dead.  But the courts can’t fix bad fiscal/energy policy

It's rude to talk about others when they are present. You Nazis wing nuts invariably point to Venezuela when the desirable model is Denmark.

Free market economy when free markets work. Regulate to prevent monopolies and abuses.
Central planning when central planning works.

Pure free markets and pure socialism invariably fail. Mixed economies are the only thing that works.

The wing nuts generally reply, in so many words, that we have too many non-whites for the Scandinavian model to work here.

Central planning when central planning works.

Pure free markets and pure socialism invariably fail. Mixed economies are the only thing that works.

The wing nuts generally reply, in so many words, that we have too many non-whites for the Scandinavian model to work here.

Nichi, that twerp doesn't even know who Nixon is.

It's rude to talk about others when they are present. You Nazis wing nuts invariably point to Venezuela when the desirable model is Denmark.

Free market economy when free markets work. Regulate to prevent monopolies and abuses.

Would you move to Denmark if your property taxes go up ?

Doubt they'd have me. My property taxes are actually  reasonable. I do need to shop my homeowners insurance next time it comes due.

Seriously, I don't think we can exactly duplicate what Denmark does, but nationalizing the oil industry might be a good idea.

We could see if Meghan Markle wants the Queen position.
And if you need a referral, just ask.
The current resident of the White House has vowed to eliminate the oil industry.

The problem is we don't have enough AOC's in the world. We need a massive marshall plan to put 1.21 Gigawatts of solar/wind out there, and amp up electric vehicle and battery production, heat pumps. Then we don't need gas and we have lower heating bills.

Forget climate change, this is an economic and national security issue. And that's a shit ton of roll your sleeves up blue collar jobs.

Most conservatives have left Illinois by now and don’t give a fuck. Like me.

They all moved to Florida, to create this illusion that Ron DeSantis will have any national constituency. If you can pick your voters, you look great.

If he wants to do that, he's doing a shitty job.

Question: if you could do all the things you can do with oil, without the actual oil, would you? Or are you just a fossil

If they sold this as, if we do this, we can tell the fucking third world countries that form OPEC and the gas station that is Russia to fuck off, then people might go for it.

Ah, yes, the "lower class" that commutes from DuPage Counry to the Loop every day by car and owns their own 2k sq ft home.
