Wow cutting edge shit
Too much, ahem, fluff for today's opening of spring drills ? Lol.
-
Better than Beckman's talk of WINT and Oskee....
We use the word Oskee...
Lol, that dude is a national treasure.

Illinois has a bye week before hosting Tennessee Chattanooga (UTC), and another one before a road game at Nebraska. Nonconference games against Wyoming, Virginia and UTC should all be (on paper) winnable. Crossover conference games at Indiana, home against MSU, and at Michigan. Road games at Michigan and Northwestern to close out the regular season.
-
Probably gonna be a rough go of it
-
Shoot for 6-6, no stumbles, and a bowl game.
Va pounded us last year.
-
Hard to win football games with below average QB'ing. Until Bielema can find a QB, I think the ceiling is 6-6. But I do think he's building Illinois the right way. He's focus on instate recruiting, getting the guys that usually go to Iowa/Northwestern/Wisconsin and also his staff I think is good.
-

Perhaps the script will be flipped in 2022. Former Clemson OC Tony Elliott took over in Charlottesville when Bronco Mendenhall resigned in December 2021 after 6 seasons. So UVA has a new HC/OC/DC and the game against Illinois will be Virginia's 1st road game of the season. Sound familiar? Hopefully the Illini will draw more than the 36k who witnessed last year's mauling at Scott Stadium. The Illini offense (minus OC Tony Petersen, QB Brandon Peters) should be better, if for no other reason than it can't possibly be as anemic as the 2021 edition.

Bruh…do you even Illinois?

I hadn't thought about the Va coaching change.
The 1 thing I took out of the spring drills story was Bielema and Lunney wanting to maximize a players potential.
I had reservations about Petersen early when it looked like a plan of 'this is our offense, learn to fit in it.'
-
Bruh…do you even Illinois?
Lol, while I understand the rationale behind your response, from my perspective it's simply a case of addition by subtraction (losing OC Petersen & QB Peters = improvement).
-
Your 'we'll have better shooters this year' hope springs eternal fluff piece .....

Hmm. Was there some thing last weekend at Memorial Stadium? I thought I saw JeffFrank post some pictures getting autographs and stuff.
Chump Edit: It looks like he went to an open scrimmage where there was a signing session afterwards.

They just showed PSU game highlights.
Lol.

We've got the 3 Ps coming back with starter experience, Palczewski, Pearl and Pihlstrom. Barlev played a little last year. After that, it looks to be a work in progress.

So short answer is "no." Next question: do we have a D Line?

Oh, ye of little faith.
It's a change to an up tempo offense under Lunney that may help mask shortcomings.
Randolph, Avery, Woods and Newton are back. And Walters did a good job turning around the d last year. Hart is back at lb after playing well and then an injury last year, and Barnes is back at lb.
Brown, Witherspoon and Martin return in the backfield.
We've got a lot of youngsters and we better score some tds because special teams probably won't be what we're used to.

I wear a cup when discussing and viewing Illinois football. Is there a qb?
-
I feel like we lost quite a bit and didn’t really add much instant impact talent. See a lot of people thinking 6-7 wins. Would be nice but not feeling very confident at all regarding this squad.
-
Oh, we're gonna go that way, eh ?
5-7 may be overly optimistic.
4-8 is reasonable.
3-9 is a possibilty.
We'll see what Lunney does with a lack of skill players on offense, and we better come up with some semblance of a run game. An up tempo offense may be a disaster if it's a lot of 3 and outs.
The d has it's job cut out.

Beating Va, Mn and PU may be a little optimistic. We generally give the gofs a game, but Va torched us last year.

They could be good or they can suck! Alrighty!

They could be good or they can suck! Alrighty!
That was my take.
-
It's a rebuilding year.
We'll have stumbles and not look good at times. We need to play 4 quarters and look like a football team.
And we need to find a qb and a wide receiver for next year.
-

I have no idea what to expect out of this squad. None. I usually expect the worst and hope for not quite so bad.
Hey, what the fuck. It’ll be interesting.

Aside from maybe, what?, 5 seasons, they have been rebuilding since Mackovic left....

After a 1-3 start, we finished 4-4 and were in games and 2-1 vs top 20 teams.

After this weekend's games, there is no excuse if Bielema can't get to 6 wins minimum, right? The teams in the West suck. Minnesota? Remains to be seen. The problem is we still suck too at the end of the day. But the Illini look less sucky than the other shit ass teams in the West.
-
I’d say at this juncture anything fewer than 6 wins would be a big disappointment.
-
I'm hoping for 6.
The loss to the Hoosiers may hurt.
We're still working our way up the pecking order.
Sparty or PU may be our hopes for #6, after Neb and NU.

It would be very White Sox-ish, wouldn't it?

All the remaining games, except Michigan (and even then it probably should be winnable because they are undoubtedly overrated as usual), are winnable. Though a) Minnesota and b) the Illini's ability to win on the road remain to be determined.
-
As of now, Illini projected for Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit on 12/26 @ 2:30 against either Toledo or Central Michigan.

So, what we looking at now? They have to lose a game they should win, because that is so Illinois, right?

The only should win remaining is NU.
Should have won at Indiana.
-
This team has far, far exceeded my expectations.
The offensive line is one of 22 listed for the Joe Moore Award, for the best OL.

Considering what Bret walked into, maybe x's and o's aren't so overrated.
-
Lovie or his staff musta did a good job of recruiting some raw talent. We are now seeing what the coaching them up part looks like.
We could use the tall hybrid receiver that decommited after the coaching change. Can't remember his name. Reminded me of Oliver Williams.

This guy ? I don't know a thing about him, but if I was going to ask for a receiver it would be a better starting tight end. Reiman to 2nd string.
Or hold onto Daniel Barker somehow.

You did the right thing not buying the hype. Can't even get a year, then they quit on you.
-
Goes by Karate now. Whatever happened to Edwin Carter? Oliver Williams was a real good red zone receiver. We could use a tight end with hands too.

I don't think Edwin Carter ever played again after his injury.
-
I'll toss in the 2023 schedule.
Not bad. Crossover games are PSU and the Hoosiers at home, with the Terps on the road.
Division games ....
Nebraska, Wisco and NU at home.
PU, the gofs and xxxx on the road.
At Kansas, but who'da thunk that Kansas would go out and get Leipold and be good.
-
Next year looks like we could at most lose one or two games. Great schedule!
-
While looking like a very good schedule, we may want to see what happens in the portal.

Agreed. I do think we’ve got a really good shot at getting a great transfer quarterback after seeing what the staff has done with Tommy Devito, Russell Wilson, and turning Illinois around this season.

Playing at Kansas, huh? I think that's a good move. I wish we could reschedule Mizzou and kick their asses annually, but they made the ultradumb decision to join the SEC.

If Barker and Bielema butted heads, that's Barker's problem. And he wouldn't be the 1st transfer where things didn't work out thinking the grass would be greener.

Fuck, Barker!

He's one of those we're better off without him kinda guys. ;D

Barker = Tempo is a match?
