Title: Covid Poll
Post by: Reacher on December 29, 2021, 08:02:40 PM
Still haven’t had it (that I know of). Been tested a large handful of times, but not because I had it (or symptoms) but because I was exposed to someone who did.

I have a feeling the next 7 days is going to be it. Going into the office, kid hanging out, I'll probably do something stupid in the next 3 days that will finally catch up with me...

On the plus side, if you do catch the Covid, you'll still be able to go restaurants and bars in Chicago if your papers are acceptable to the authorities. You don't have to be boosted, lol, but make sure you carry your photo ID. It's not like you're going to vote, so you'll need the ID.

Had it a year ago so whatever variant that was. Basically flu/uri plus, knocked out 2 days, ongoing lung irritation maybe 4-6 weeks where I felt it when walking up stairs.

Nothing close to hospitalization but understand how it kills people.

It was right before Halloween last year, was playing in the park with the kids on Sunday afternoon. Joints starting feeling a little achey, felt a little feverish. Little tickle in the back of my throat. Took some ibuprofen and felt fine that evening.

Monday woke up feeling a little feverish again. Took ibuprofen and was fine. Even though it felt like the onset of any standard cold/flu, I just *knew* that I had it though because I felt different somehow. Went and did a drive through test at CVS, hunkered down and waited for results.

Tuesday I felt tired and spent most of the day resting. Felt 100% normal Wednesday and Thursday, but then Thursday evening I realized I couldn’t smell the Italian beef that had been simmering in a crock pot all afternoon. Even if I put my face into the steam after taking off the lid.

The worst part for me was the isolation, I also had a little of the brain fog some people describe. Frankly as someone with none of the risk factors typically associated with serious cases of COVID, it was kind of nice to just get it over with. I’m pretty certain I got it when I had a sleep apnea study done and was in a medical facility all day meeting with various medical staff who were doing all kinds of shit around my face.

Especially since delta hit it seems almost everyone I either work or socialize with has now had it. Probably because most of them have school aged children who—despite being masked and distanced at school—are bringing it home. The kid gets a runny nose and pops positive then the parent(s) have to stay home from work for 8-10 days and then they inevitably get it. Or they work in health care or education and pick it up at work.

Like Murph my kids go to private school and it’s basically been a non issue there due to small class size and SOPs. However it just went through my brothers family. Son came home from school (public) with congestion, tested positive, and everyone but my brother ended up with a thankfully mild case so we reworked all our holiday plans. They are finally out of quarantine protocol Friday.

Boosted and papers are in order. Buddy who is downtown, and had it around Thanksgiving, is tan, rested and ready for hijinks tomorrow. But now have a couple coming over for dinner Friday night, so I'm getting leery of engaging in too much chicanery tomorrow....

Don't know how you got that out of the post,  but I guess now we know why you are deemed the life of the party by many!

got it from a wedding I attended in Chicago this November

very mild, best thing I took for it was Advil to get rid of the headache and body aches

had like a day or two of sweating/cold then stuff went into my lungs so they felt weak for about a week

small cough associated with that

interestingly my sinuses were super clear, like more clear than normal when sleeping and stuff but I sort of lost my sense of smell for a while but could still taste things

I took 2 home antigen tests that showed positive, my wife did two as well one showed up positive, we went to a testing center did an antigen and PCR test and I was positive for the antigen test but negative for the PCR, she was negative for both so yeah... strange, but she was vaccinated so maybe that had some effect

we quarantined at the house, I worked the whole time, I wasn't tired at all but she was very sleepy

we probably caught two different things, but who knows

I could see how the lung thing would effect fat and old people, that was a bit disconcerting, but thankfully it went away after about a week.  My best friend who had covid (he travels a ton) but was forced to get vaccinated for his job, has had the lung thing for months now right after his vaccination, that would suck big time.

I came down with covid in  early September 2020. Went to see my physician for a strained muscle in my lower back, nurse took my temperature and repeated. I asked her why she repeated and said it's reading 101.5. I didn't even feel bad. So the doc comes in and checks out my back, strained muscle, will be OK. Nurse returns and takes temp again, 101.5. So he comes back in and advises that I get tested. I went home and called my employer and told them what happened. Can't return to work with the fever due to company policy for at least 10 days with 5 days fever free.. Later that day started feeling like crap, body aches, exhausted. 2 days later decided I need to get tested at local drive thru test station. Got a phone call 4 days later that the test was positive. Really felt like garbage, no appetite, didn't eat for 4 days. Drank water and chicken broth during that time.
Fell asleep in the recliner one day and woke up with soaked hair and a soaked t-shirt from neck and shoulders down to the chest. Fever broke after 5 days and  finally got back to normal temp. Finally was able to eat. After another week isolated was able to return to work. It wasn't until late October that I finally got my strength back and felt decent. My experience wasn't nearly as severe as other people, can't imagine how badly some people must have suffered. Due to cancer issue, radiation and chemo treatments, was able to get vaccinations in Feb and March 2021and booster shot in August though wasn't age 65 yet.

Wow. Glad to hear you are doing better.
Thank you. Been a tough 1.5 year but things are looking up. Hope you haven't had it, covid or cancer, and you never get it. They both suck.

Keep up with the battle.
A brother in law is in the hospital recovering from surgery as a result of his cancer battle a few years ago. He went in to ER last week, and OR a couple of days later. With Covid visiting restrictions, I haven't been able to see him.
With his surgery, chemo and radiation a few years ago he probably would have struggled mightily with any Covid and concerns about both will be ongoing.
One disease is too many.
Keep up with the recovery.

What kind of cancer?
A skin cancer, a large mass developed on the left side of my neck. It couldn't be operated on because "fingers" of this cancer started traveling up my skull, making it too delicate to perform. Hence, 40 radiation treatments and 7 rounds of chemo, and still taking Keytruda treatments for 2 hours every 3 weeks.

To all of you that posted well wishes, thanks so much.

Thanks man.

This Illini fan has had one dream since 1965, seeing the Illini hoist that trophy in the last game of the season. Thought we were going to get it in 2005 but Luther Head's shot wouldn't go. I wanna be here and see it happen.

In all seriousness hate what you went though and hope you’re permanently on the better side of it.

Is Keytruda a variety of sit in a chair while poison is pumped in your veins?
