Posted it in this forum by accident. Custard, if you could move it to the deuce that would be appreciated.

Wonder how many “final nails” have been delivered in the last few years? Can’t imagine anyone of sound mind thinking there will be consequences at this point.

You don’t think 50 years’ of women’s autonomy taken away will awaken a slumbering giant?
-
Let’s just say I think this is a classic case of the barking dog that catches up with the car tire.

If actively trying to overthrow Democracy didn't, then no not particularly.

Fair. But I think the GOP is dying/splintering. Just not as quickly as I hoped or anticipated. I think this would zap any momentum they have at the least.
-
I’d have a tough time seeing a right-wing Republican winning the presidency one election cycle after overturning RvW.

Does 'splintering' really matter if both sides of the 'splinter' are still willing to vote Republican?

They won the presidency one month after they stole the SCOTUS seat that everyone knew was aimed at overturning it.
Overturning RvW is a positive for many, many conservative voters. Half or more, I'd guess. And a non-issue to a large percentage of the other half.

The big unknown here is just how much the electorate actually cares about abortion rights. I will chance that the electorate might care if their legislature is going to fully outlaw the procedure or ban it after some extremely short period like six weeks. No exceptions for incest or rape might make people care as well, as Republicans found out about a decade ago.
-
banning abortion is a comically stupid idea
-
So let me get this straight. Tempo—bleeding heart liberal—wants to take away 50 years of women’s autonomy because he thinks it’ll end the Republican Party. Am I understanding this correctly?
-
My problem isn’t with abortion per say. My beliefs are against it, yes, but I’m just against using taxpayer funds to do it. If the people wanna get an abortion, let them get an abortion and pay for it out of pocket or suffer the consequences. Once they see how much it costs and/or how risky it is, then they might be a little more cautious. Why should I be responsible for someone else’s bad decisions?! I agree there are extreme circumstances like incest or rape that should be handled on a case by case basis preferably in the courts if needed. The government has their hands regulating too many things, and once they touch something, it usually turns to shit.
Now I don’t think that’s too extreme or unreasonable.

You apparently are unfamiliar with the Electoral College and addition.

Well that is why people are just moving out of Texas in droves....{checks notes}....oh, wait....

Uh, you have seen his posts about the Bear losing so everyone gets fired, right?

Yeah and I thought about that before posting but this is on such a different level.

Bears >>>> Roe v. Wade!

Only briefly. Willing to take short-term losses for long-term gains. I’m nothing if not a pragmatist.

I’m a big picture guy.

Abortion is a lot more safe than childbirth, and for many it's arguably more safe than parenthood. It's certainly a lot cheaper than parenthood

Well, the Mexicans are, but not really "moving", more like "being invited to leave in a truck"

Come on, moving your place of residence and voting in the upcoming election are two entirely different things.
Interestingly, Texas has a so-called trigger law on abortion.
“Texas legislators have ensured the state is ready if Roe v. Wade is overturned — ‘wholly or partly’ — by this case or any future ruling. Last June, Texas joined 11 other states by enacting a measure that automatically bans abortion after Roe is overturned without having to call a special legislative session.”
“The law includes a narrow exception to save the life of the mother — but not for rape, incest, fetal abnormalities or other circumstances.”
https://www.texastribune.org/2021/11/30/texas-mississippi-abortion-supreme-court/
And as you know, SCOTUS has not ruled on Texas’ most recent efforts to limit abortion.

If it's the final nail in the GOP coffin, it won't be because a lot of people are pissed off about abortion rights. The people for whom abortion rights is a big enough issue to get them to vote, are already voting, and certainly aren't in the GOP.
More likely, if Roe vs Wade is overturned, then the GOP will have lost their wedge issue that keeps the anti-abortion folks in the fold despite the GOP being against their economic interests.

Great! So make them pay for it. It’s their choice.

A pretty big 'short term loss', especially from someone for whom I presume it isn't really an issue at this point. And one with no guarantee whatsoever - in fact I think you could argue less than even odds - of being overturned.

Another scism in the Church of Rome.

Depending on the outcome, I will be watching races in purple states where you have a Democratic governor and Republican legislature. State legislative proposals that would outlaw all or most abortions could scramble things by putting a renewed practical focus on abortion rights.
Polls have shown that plenty of people "care" about abortion rights, but it's yet to be seen if it's an animating factor for independents/suburban women and that's where elections are often won and lost.
I’m not getting my hopes up.

Polls show the economy is the #1 issue across all demographics.

So the question is how many times the Republicans can wreck it before people notice.

I didn't say *for whom* it's more expensive. When said child ends up in public school - YOU will pay for it.

You actually think JudgeJerkoff utilizes logic?

I don’t mind that. I’d rather pay for that than for them to die before ever getting a chance.

Notes that JudgeJerkoff is "paying for his choice" by abandoning his kid to the baby momma. What. A. Fucking. Scumbag. Douchenozzle.
