Title: Lets help Hulka with rotation
Post by: Lkdog on November 22, 2021, 08:46:22 PM
He seems a little over his head again.

What should rotation be?

Still nuthugging Chet I see.
He is the guard coach I am sure.
Shooting 28% from three and look like ass on both sides of the ball.

Pieces don't fit.

Plummer/Frazier are redundant.  Each small, catch and shoot guards that can't create offense for anyone else.  Really only need 1 of these guys.

Curbelo is the only 1. He has to play. Nobody else can take their guy off the dribble.
Kofi is the 5.
Hawkins is the 4.

We are missing 2s/3s that can go to the basket.  Miller/Ayo could do that last year.  We don't have that guy this year.  So the offense is going to struggle.  It's basically dump the ball to Kofi, offensive rebound.  We don't have the shooters on the outside, nor the slashers to the bucket to create anything else.  And we don't have a system that is going to get us any easy shots either.

We have the right starters, just don't have a coach.

However, I would temporarily bench curbelo for his tech fouls, and his STRONG tendency to complain and look at the refs every time something doesn't go his way.

It's not what leaders do and he doesn't understand that.

New guy actually likes to talk about basketball.   :)

I agree on:

Curbelo
Kofi

Hawkins but he is very raw still. Will have nights like tonight.

Frazier has to play as he is a fairly secure ballhandler, spells Curbelo, and normally will not go 0-50.

That leaves the other wing spot.
Probably Hutcherson. He might be that scoring 3 we need.

I would give Grandison and Plummer the first off the bench minutes.

Payne has to play backup at center.

That is 8 guys in some combination getting most of minutes.

The only guy that is assured of 28+ mpg would be Kofi.
Everybody else would depend on matchups and who is playing well that night.
My guess is Trent and Curbelo will play 25+ mpg most nights.
The rest of the top 8 can really vary if Underwood actually game coaches.

A few minutes for DaMonte, but Underwood loves him.
BBV if we have serious foul trouble inside.

Use one of frosh here and there.

We are not going to keep shooting 28% from three.
The new Kofi did not register an assist once again tonight even drawing so much attention, however. He only had 5 all of last year after getting 20 as a frosh.
He has to grow his game.

When you are annointed as an NBA HOF'er, are you entitled to act like one?

Looks to me that Underwood may have given the keys and the flashy used car to Curbelo, and told the team to play the way they want. The car needs a lot of repairs before the wheels fall off.
It's time to take the keys back, and trade the car in for a dependable, not flashy, Camry.

Both he and Hawkins complain a lot. In the Marquette game, Hawkins looked like he was gonna mass murder everyone in the arena when a call went against him. Underwood had to step in and restrain him.

I don’t know who the fuck these guys are complaining and looking around for calls like they are Lebron and Harden. Newsflash: Shut the fuck up and play the game.

Agree. I have played and watched and coached basketball for a very long time. Never seen a ref overturn a call from a guy throwing a tantrum.

I thought Underwood was a master at teaching mental toughness.

If DW is going to continue to get big minutes, the only time he should be passed the ball is for spot up 3's.  Any other touches usually implode the possession.  He's good at boards, decent in D, but still can't make a move, an assist or a layup.

Come now, 'Monte is fine with lay-ups. He hits his free-throws, too.

He did have a nice year last year on open catch and shoot threes. Otherwise he looks like a guy trying to dribble and shoot a football. He is very over rated defender. Average at best.
Some good hustle plays here and there.

5-7 mpg is about right. We had our run last year when he sat down.
