Shit, we got a football game this weekend.
Bielema, let's hope you can coach, unlike several of your predecessors.
-
Hopefully college football gets some of the missing morans back here.
-
What is the deal with the Grange Grove? Thinking of going down there this weekend.

It's exactly what you'd expect. Teenagers, parents and cover bands.
People waiting around for something to happen. Guys who didn't necessarily think the Macarena was cool, but felt like they needed to learn the Macarena just in case.
Tempo would like it.
-
It's terrible.
-
Try and crash someone’s tailgate in Lot 31. Pick one with a lot of people and activities and food. If they notice they probably won’t even care as long as you bring booze.

So you are saying it is not worth the hassle and I may as well hang out at the cars of the people I'm with.

Since it will be 90 degrees and I doubt any of the wives will actually want to go into the game - hell, I won't want to go into the game - is the Illini Inn actually open that early and does it suck now that it has been rebuilt and isn't a shithole?

You're too old for Grange Grove. And the Illini Inn isn't what you remember.

Rees Woodcock .....
"Against Nebraska, I have a confidence of 9 out of 10. Illinois has the firepower returning to do some serious damage. I would be shocked if we didn’t score at least 40 points once again."
Nebraska returns 9 of 11 starters on defense.
"Unlike his boss Scott Frost’s offense, the unit coached by Nebraska defensive coordinator Erik Chinander has improved each season since he’s been in Lincoln.
And Chinander’s defense in 2021, at least on paper, looks to be his best."
-
Haven’t paid any real attention to Illini Football since the end of the Ron Zook era. Any chance we’re at least respectable this year?
-
Rees Woodcock is funny. I swear he’s in the 7th grade, too.

5-7 is a reasonable guess and look respectable doing it. 6-6 is a possibility, and so is 4-8. We could be worse than that, and we could be better. I'll go with 6-6 with the hopes that we have better coaching.
-

I don't see how it could be worse.
-
It's like predicting the Bears. You do need to hedge your bets. Hell yes, it could be worse. But hey, once/century pandemic and anything can happen.
Make mine 7-5.
-
I think we may win 6 games and make some super shitty bowl again like the fight hunger bowl

Nicely done.
-
Well done
-
See, a lot of people care.
-
I'll be shocked if we don't put up 40 again. Shocked.
CBS ...
"Illinois, meanwhile, begins the Bielema era after going just 2-6 in 2020 and averaging 20.1 points per game. There's a lot of pressure for both sides, and Sallee sees that leading to a slow start that will push this game under the total.
"Look for empty drives, field goals instead of touchdowns and an ultra-low scoring affair deep into the second half," Sallee told SportsLine. "This will be a game of mistakes, not big plays."

Why is College Gameday at Georgia State for their game this evening when we are the first game of the season?! Makes absolutely no sense. It’s is the perfect set up for us to host, and yet they still aren’t here.

" will ... celebrate the tradition and history of HBCUs in college football."
Good for the little guys. Plus Nebraska fannies may outnumber Illini fannies.
Nonetheless....

True, interesting punt return though there lol

Doesn't the 8th amendment prohibit cruel and unusual punishment?
-
Falling apart before halftime, nice
-
Gotta find a running game.
-
How was that not a touchdown lol
-
I hope we didn't score too quick. Lol.

How was that not a touchdown lol
After several replays, it looked like the right call.
-
It's football. Football is boring.
This is why everyone thinks you’re boring.
-
How was that not a touchdown lol
It probably wasn’t, but it was too close to overturn IMO.
-
We look disciplined and aren’t getting embarrassed so that’s a win.
-

Was about to post something similar. We look like a competitive team, if not “good.”
“Not embarrassing ourselves” is a definite improvement.
-
That’s probably the most Illini football I’ve watched in 10 years.
-
39 yards rushing for Nebraska.
I repeat. 39 yards rushing for Nebraska.
We're up 5 minutes in time of possession. Keep it up.

Nice start to the Bielema era

Good game. Sitkowski played well in relief.

I figured it was because the game was on FOX.

Well that was fun.

The fourth quarter against Wisconsin in 2019 was better but yeah

The fourth quarters against Wisconsin and Sparty in 2019…but yeah that was up there.

Had a fun group text with my Nebraska colleagues during the game today.

Yeah, I missed all but the last couple of minutes of that game.

Very fair. Let’s call it top 5.

Good game today. However, this video makes it even better.

Mn, I was at the game. It was really fucking hot in there and trying to get a beer was tough. They truly are incompetent running things down there.
Nebraska had receivers wide open all day. Dude above is right that Martinez isn't good. O line at least showed up for the second half (when they ran left).
Nebraska fans showed up and didn't stick around long after the game. Delusional fanbase. Basically the football version of Illinois viz a viz basketball.
Going to be a long season for both teams but I bought plane tickets to CA for New Years....

Martinez has never been an accurate passer. He plays because of his running ability, and he may very well be their best qb option. Gotta take the bad with the good with him. Penalties, missed pats and the mindfuck safety hurt them; and we are well versed in that kind of football and the record it leads to.
Nebby fans were led to believe this was Frost's best team, and red kool-aid goes down the same as orange or any other color.
We ran for more yards, went 15-19 passing, 6-13 in 3rd down conversions, had only 3 penalties, won time of possession by 10 minutes, and looked better coached.
You went, so good for you. Hopefully we'll start seeing more people going.
How many Nebby fans ? 10k ?

Don't know but there were a shit load of NE fans, as to be expected.
They gave away 2 tickets to each UofI employee if the employee wanted them.
Student section was actually full for the 1st half.

Good win for Illinois.
Until Frost starts holding players accountable for repeated on-field mistakes, the Huskers are going to flounder. Nebraska special teams should have been awarded Illinois player of the game after yesterday's showing. That group was awful -- 2 missed XPs, horrible decision to field a punt inside the 5 that led to an IL safety, several bad punts... But the real issue starts and ends at QB. By all accounts, Adrian Martinez is a great kid. Unfortunately for Nebraska, he's a poor QB who is prone to turnovers and mental mistakes. In addition, he routinely throws errant passes at wide open receivers -- when he sees them. This has been going on since he arrived on campus. Downright maddening if you're a Nebraska fan. Wonder what the alleged extra practices / workouts were focused on?

Lowly Illinois scores largest national audience in six years
The season-opening Nebraska-Illinois college football game averaged a 1.9 rating and 3.22 million viewers on FOX Saturday afternoon, marking the most-watched game involving Illinois since a 2015 matchup against Ohio State (4.08M). Nebraska played in a game with more viewers just last season, the delayed season opener against Ohio State (6.18M). The Illini’s win easily outdrew the overlapping Hawaii-UCLA game on ESPN, which pulled a 0.59 and 976,000.

That stinks. He was shaping up to be a missing piece in the D. At least we didn't lose an all-American rb.
