Rutgers on deck. Wisky Iowa tonight. Need to d up this game. Most games have started cold this tournament. Just feed the Kofi monster and let it open up outside. Stop Youngs penetration.
-
Hoping for an easy win tonight.
Illinois is much better than in December.
Rutgers isn't.
-
Big Ten was smart to move the conference tournament to Indianapolis. Get in a little practice on that court before the NCAA Tournament.
-
Holy shit, the move Ayo made at the top of the key on that drive.
-
No more of that, belo.
-
Damnt belo wtf
-
Ayo looks sharp tonight.
belo not so much yet.
-
Kofi can't buy one.
-

Rutgers isn't.
Throw out what happened during the regular season. Just ask Purdue (2-0 against Ohio State before losing to the Buckeyes in the conference tournament). It's win and advance time. Well, the real version starts next week. These games are primarily for NCAA seeding.
-
Is this the game thread? Can't watch game tonight since I'm a different part of world and it's not on but need to follow somehow
-
Putting some stink on it early. 8)

32-18 Illinois with @7 min left in 1st half.

I guess it is.
Nice lead, and Rutgers already in some foul trouble.

32-18 Illinois with @7 min left in 1st half.
All business. This team is *good*. There are some nominal comparisons to 89 and 05. Except for that 7 footer not name Nick Smith
-

Illini up 32 -18 with 6:52 left in the 1st half.. Look like the clearly better team.
-
Rutgers hitting some tough shots.
-
Ayo already has 12, Grandison 8 to lead the Illini. Harper Jr. leads RU with 7.
Rutgers has no offensive rebounds while Illinois already has 8.
-
3 fouls on Mulcahy hurts them.
-
41-22 ILL at the under 4 break.
-
That rebound and throw off the Rutgers player by Frazier - all business. This is a thinkin' man's team
-
I love how focused used we are. This team is on a mission and the goal is a National Championship. They look like they can do it too!
Yes, it’s all business.
-
Kofi-licious!
-
Half time.
47-28
Trent nice buzzer beater
-
Just glide through the second half for an easy win.. Thought I probably just jynxed everything
-
When we play with focus and intensity, it's a thing of beauty.
Rutgers shooting nearly 50% and still down by 19. We're outrebounding them 22-8.
-
I think we started 3-9 shooting, then 14-22 got us to 55%.
22-8 rebounds.
-
We were heavy Vegas favorites. They were right, like usually.
-
Harper Jr.'s dad would have dunked it the 3 times Junior drove the lane in this game.
-
Some great moments that first half. Let’s finish them off and get some minutes for the end of the rotation.
-
Haha suck it, Mulcahy!
-
Fittingly, the little New Jersey logo on the back of their jerseys looks like a rectum and anus
-
Haha suck it, Mulcahy!
I couldn't tell what he said.
-
Fittingly, the little New Jersey logo on the back of their jerseys looks like a rectum and anus
Well, NJ is the anus of America.
-
Too many layups.
-
Mulcahy seems like the type of douche Iowa usually recruits.
-
Ouchie to belo.
-
What did Bardo say ?
He got hit in his future ?
-
What did Bardo say ?

Maybe he thinks he's going into porn once his college days are over?
-
Wow. Flagrant two (balls)
-
Bardo has never met Judge Judy.
-
Wow. Flagrant two (balls)
Hahaha
-
No way that's a flagrant 2 foul. Complete BS call.
-
That was a bad call. Feel bad for the kid
-
Could they just declare us the winners.. i am getting bored.
-
OK State beat Baylor.
-
Bardo has never met Judge Judy.
Okay I lold
Flagrant 1-2s are such bullshit
-
Rutgers has 17 total rebounds. Illinois has 16 offensive rebounds, 37 total.
-
After the beatings that have happened over the last month in B1G play I have no problem calling a flagrant 2 on a dry handjob
-
Kofi in a FT groove. 4 in a row.
-
OK State beat Baylor.
If both Illinois and Iowa flame out in spectacular fashion in BTT OKST could get a look at a 1?
-
Why is Kofi in there?
-
Get Ayo out
-
Could they just declare us the winners.. i am getting bored.
Think of the walkons.
-
Why is Kofi in there?
For dunking purposes
Loosening up those rims for the shooters
-

Get him the fuck out of there
-

Lunardi has them on the 3 line. That would be a helluva jump.
-
Man these guys are fun to watch and also listen to.
Kofi sounds like Eddie Murphy in the The Golden Child using a Chewbacca voice filter
-

If he starts gargling whiskey, he could get to Dikembe land.
-
90 vs a team that can play good d. We got them off their game early and kept it that way.
-
Kicked their asses and the punk Mulcahy got hit with a tech and fouled out. It was a good day.
-
Nice win. I actually was a little worried about this game since they beat us earlier.
-
Glad to see that headbanded bitch Mulchahy get owned.
Down goes Baylor. We can creep up if we win the BTT. I have been saying it for the last month, I DO NOT want Oklahoma State in our bracket.
-

If we win the BTT, I think we would be the #2 overall seed.
If Iowa wins tonight and beats us tomorrow, they could knock us down to the 2 line.

I remember all those lean years where we were the underdog looking to get a revenge win or punch a ticket to the dance. Sometimes we did it against a team that was better than us.
This game worried me. Rutgers isn’t bad. Iowa worries me. It’s always a tight game. Michigan worries me. We bitch slapped them last time but they can play great ball. Ohio State a third time worries me. Those games were wars. Every game forward worries me. Since my Illini basketball consciousness began in the late 80s I have seen Illinois fall flat and disappoint too many times on the big stage.
These guys look locked in. I watched a ton of 04-05 replays this last week and while I always remembered those guys for how much fun they were having playing basketball, I was surprised when I actually saw the opposite in those replays.
Sure, there were some fist bumps and Dee flashing his jersey and orange mouthpiece, but they were actually very workmanlike. Methodical. Subdued. Much more #everydayguys than this Illini team. Looking back with 20/20 hindsight, it’s easy to see how Weber overcoached his later teams into a brain freeze when he didn’t have a group of pros.
These guys look like they’re having a fuckload of fun. And they’re actually even more fun to watch.
-
Time to beat Iowa again
-
Iowa Wiscy game was fun.
-
Right now we look like we should run through this field. We will see.

Agree. But Iowa
-
Agree. But Iowa
I don't like the fact that Iowa shot horribly today. Supposedly the background there is not good.
If they go like 12-25 tomorrow from 3 it could be tough night.
-
Rutgers made two. Tyler Underwood made one.
Relying on the three-point shot seems like a bad strategy in that room.
So ... yes. 12 of 25 would be disastrous.

Before this year's Big Ten Conference Tournament began, every other team in the league thought, "Crap, we have to (try and) beat Illinois to win the championship".
1st edit:
Some here probably have reservations about this team's chances of winning it all, in part because, well, Illinois. I get it. I'm not an Illinois homer -- y'all know that. This Illinois team is good. Really good. They remind me of 2006-07 Ohio State (Greg Oden, Mike Conley Jr.. Ron Lewis), a team that made it to the NCAA Finals, losing to defending champ Florida. The Illini are more experienced than that Buckeye squad; Oden, Conley Jr. and Daequan Cook were freshmen. For Illinois, it's going to come down to health, the draw and FT shooting.
2nd edit:
By winning it all, I'm talking NCAA Championship. Remember, third time's the charm.

I like the cut of your jib.
-
One game at a time.
It's not like we're a good free throw shooting team, don't turn the ball over, or can shoot a team out of a zone at will.
This team seems to play off energy that starts on defense. Bring that for 40 minutes.
-
We seem to be focused on defending the 3. So far, so good. Many of the players today aren't that skilled to hit the traditional 2's. Case in point, DW.
-
Livers out for the year. We'll be lucky to see the S16 without him. Maybe Johns will finally step up and stop playing like a pussy. I doubt it though.

It’s been speculated this happed during the scuffle regarding Howard? Is this true? I doubt it, but wasn’t sure and didn’t know being a Michigan fan if you had any inside info.
Hate to see any player get injured and wish him a speedy recovery, but fuck Michigan. Let’s see if they can beat us without their best player. That is if they can get past O$U first.
-
Yeah, sorry Sven, that's a tough break.
Also, fuck Michigan.
But on the flip side, I gave us 2% to win in AA without Ayo. Maybe your guys will rally.

Pretty much all of this, with the caveat that even loaded teams have a bit of a crap shoot in the NCAAs. But this one has done a great job of accounting for its weaknesses and putting itself in a position for a run.
-

I hadn't heard that. I guess OSU is missing Young today too.

No it happened playing transition defense long before Turgeon charged Juwan and then acted like a little cunt.
And no we aren't going to beat you without Livers.

First half injury occurred per this article.
https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2021/03/michigans-isaiah-livers-out-indefinitely-with-foot-injury.html
That is tough break. They do have very good bench. They have not looked good at all since the OSU game.

We had a nice bench. Mostly because of Chaundee. He'll be fine as a starter but now our bench is just Davis and Johns. Maybe Johns will finally grow a pair and play like he's capable but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
-
Trying to watch the basketball pregame stuff on CBS and all this Michigan dick sucking and infatuation is way too much. I don’t get it.

UM is hard to figure. Dickinson and Wagner can dominate or disappear for long stretches.
Livers was most consistent guy.
Smith is very good.
Brown is good.
Davis is starter on a lot of teams.
Your ball movement has sucked lately. Not sure why. Smith had a game for you yesterday.
Is Livers for sure out for season?
-
Livers out, and Young out. Shorter benches for both teams
-

I wouldn't mind seeing them lose today.

If we get by Iowa I really don’t want to play OSU again
-

I think Iowa is the championship game. tOSU minus Kyle Young is seriously challenged on the interior.
-
Neither team can make a basket
-
I wouldn't mind seeing them lose today.
I would much rather play Michigan (I mean beat their ass) than O$U again. I don’t like our matchup with O$U.

I agree but still don’t want to play them. Want to beat Michigan again.

+1
-
I look forward to the NCAA Tournament, when Big Ten teams can stop beating up on each other (at least during the early rounds). If Ohio State loses today, it's still a win from my perspective -- an extra day of rest for the NCAA Tournament. Unless, of course, the loss puts them in the same bracket as Gonzaga.
-

Illinois is the better team. If those teams meet in the Big Ten or NCAA Tournament and both teams are "healthy", the Illini will win.
1st edit: Comparing Illinois and OSU.
-
Both teams shooting 30%.
-
This venue appears to be shit for shooting a basketball.
Drive to the hole.
-

I’ve heard that’s a big problem with the depth perception. Getting to play the B1G tourney here will be beneficial to us and the other B1G teams as well in the NCAA tourney.
-
Liddell hurt now?
-
I’ve always thought Duane Washington Jr is extremely underrated. He’s one hell of a player and I’ve always enjoyed his game.
-
Liddell is one cocky motherfucker lol
-
Michigan still shooting 30%.
OSU up to 40% overall, and 57% on threes.
-
Wagner fouls out. Not looking good for the Maize and Blue.
-
Hafta say, I just never thought UM was all that good this year.
-
Liddell is one cocky motherfucker lol
Not so much right now
-
That missed dunk.....
-
Does Michigan drop to a #2?
-
1 guy dribbles for 20 seconds and shoots a fadeaway
what was that
-
Clever strategy, Juwan. Have the Oompa Loompa hero-ball it.
-
Lost 3 of 5 but from what I can tell they seem safe on the 1 line. Would be a real kick in the nuts if Michigan still gets a 1, Iowa wins BTT and jumps us for a 1, and we end up in Baylor’s region as a 2 seed.
-
I'm not sure you can give a team finishing with 3 losses in the last 5 a #1. Beating 2 lower half Big10 teams.
Ya think Warren is on the phone ?
-
Dribble the clock all the way down and chuck a hero ball 3. Straight out of the John Groce playbook.
Good stuff from the "no doubt" COY Juwan Howard
-

Every time I hear his name or see him I think of the classic Key and Peele East-West Shrine skit.

Worst possible shot selection given the situation.

Howard is a YMCA coach. Even though he is recruiting great the Beielin shine is going to wear off that program

They should honestly.

Not defending TTUN or Howard, but he's learning on the job. It's his first year as head coach at any level -- that's why Phil Martelli is an assistant. Let's see how things are after 3 seasons as head coach. Besides, who wants a top-notch recruiter who is also a great head coach working for a rival program?
-
I know they canceled the tourney last year but Howard was their coach the rest of the year right?
-
Rob is that a big mouth Billy bass on your mantle?

Even *if* Iowa beat Illinois, I doubt Michigan would get a 1 seed ahead of Illinois. The Illini convincingly won the head-to-head regular season meeting in Ann Arbor. That should be the end of the debate. In the Big Ten Tournament (BTT), Michigan lost to a short-handed #5 seed (Ohio State) playing it's 3rd BTT game in 3 days, while Michigan was playing its 2nd BTT game. Illinois would have lost to the #3 seed playing its 2nd game; no huge difference in rest.
I don't see how the Wolverines would get a higher seed than Illinois, unless some of the idiots on the CFP Committee are also involved in the NCAA Tournament selection committee.
-
Rob is that a big mouth Billy bass on your mantle?
Probably. I inherited it after living in a house formerly occupied by my friend/fellow bartender Scott Schaub, whose knick-knack collection is unparalleled.
