Texas just throwing the ball in the air, waiting for it to sail through the net.

Gonzaga is usually over rated,  ;D but they have beaten a few people this year so far, and actually have a legit PG this year. Will likely be undefeated heading into the tourney.

At this point I give Baylor a slight edge.

Agree everybody else is on the outside looking in, but that is why they play the games.

Since about 1976, America has had the power to determine What's On.

Nevertheless, we tend to watch what's on.

Since about 1976, America has had the power to determine What's On.

Nevertheless, we tend to watch what's on.

I think about this pretty often because I marvel at the stuff people willingly watch just because they were scrolling around and saw something maybe they’d heard of or sounded remotely interesting. Or perhaps worse, something they’d seen 1000 times and knew they liked so weren’t interested in maybe trying something new.

I usually am very intentional about what I want to watch. I then locate it and put it on. However I had surgery two weeks ago tomorrow and have been bored out of my damn mind so I’ve done things I’m not proud of

Title: Re: The game that's on TV right now
Post by: Custard on January 27, 2021, 12:29:33 AM
Ugh where to start?

I have watched The Ladies Man, The Ugly Truth and Rambo in full. This wasn’t even the first time I’ve seen two of the three of those movies.

Watched bits and pieces of a lot of bad basketball games and other bad movies. Binge watched a National Geographic documentary on the 1980s a few nights ago.

One night last week I was so bored I went to a grocery at 8:30 and wandered around just to get out of the house for a while. I didn’t need anything but ended up buying a bottle of wine that I like on sale even though I really can’t nor should I be drinking. But at least I have it for a future occasion.

I ate a carton of ice cream which is probably more ice cream than I’d eaten cumulatively in the last ten years.

Also tried to find the bulldog gif that rob was talking about a while back.

Speaking of that I received a very inappropriate (but inoffensive) photo and short video clip, perhaps on accident, perhaps not, from an old acquaintance.

I cannot taken any credit for the Bill Gates character.

On a side note...

Normally terrible/overtly predictable movie plot lines annoy me to the point I can’t even enjoy whatever decent humor they may contain. The Ladies Man seems like it should fall into that category but I found myself frequently laughing out loud. Might have been the narcotics.

Baylor doubled the already enormous spread with that 48 point margin of victory. Don’t think Bruce’s ego will let him retire quite yet.

If he can find the right pre-made squad to inherit somewhere in low level college or maybe even high school, it’s possible the third time he quits while he’s ahead.

Adding BYU made the West Coast Catholics a little more competitive, and a little less Catholic.

The problem, of course, is not boredom. It's getting pummeled in March when they remember, too late, what real competition is like.

The broad similarities between his tenure here and there are uncanny.

—Win at high level with previous coach’s players while struggling to recruit.

—Have big drop off when original players leave.

—Finally recruits some players someone has heard of, which restores some hope.

—Has a couple decent teams with his own players (but nowhere near the quality of teams he had with previous coaches’ players)

—Devolves into hot garbage

It’s been interesting watching this season evolve. It looked like Zaga and Baylor would be 1a 1b all season, but several teams have really rounded into form.  There may be more teams playing at a high level right now than at this time last year.

Really speaks to the difficulty of limited prep time/assimilating new players into the lineup, playing in empty arenas, living in a bubble without much access to family and friends, pauses, quick turnarounds.

It is a weird season. I am officially admitting that I don't what the fck might happen on a given night in the NCAA between two Top 25 teams and that includes Gonzaga who hasn't played anybody really any good since December 19th.

Illini could win the whole thing, or they could get bounced in R32.
Same might be said for about 4 or 5 other teams.

If we guard like we did vs UM, we have a shot.

I’ve studied a lot of Illini game film and I’ve determined that the key to our tourney success is to be seeded into the bracket with the most teams that have the most white guys/light skinned black guys.

Holy fuck, Loyola’s center #25 looks like his name is Stan Krzwzkwziak (his mom calls him Stash) and he’s been patrolling the same beat for 30 years and is getting ready to retire.

Brad has it right, really. The regular season “title” doesn’t really mean anything. They finished half a game behind us. We have more good wins. We finished stronger. We dominated them on their home court. We have a stronger SOS. We will be ranked above them tomorrow. But they won the regular season.

Frankly I'm all for us bowing out of the big ten tournament.  Way too high of a risk for us with absolutely no reward. 8K people all under 1 roof for 4 straight games has to be the dumbest fucking idea yet from Kevin Warren and company.

#2 seed Illinois gets 2 byes in the Big Ten Tournament (as do the other Top 4 seeds). So the Illini would have to win 3 straight games to claim the championship.

While I understand why you might think that way, the team needs to play a few games in the Big Ten Tournament to stay sharp. If I was head coach, I would not make winning the conference tournament championship a priority at this point. If it happens, it happens. Rather, I'd want to make sure the rotation is set and key players are rested & healthy. Oh, and work on free throw shooting.

Agreed. The team has to do what is necessary to keep their 1-seed secure though. I guess they could forfeit their first game. Wonder how the selection committee would treat that?

IMO the only way we could maybe drop out of a 1 is if Iowa wins BTT by drubbing us and MI along the way. But they very well might take MI’s #1 rather than ours in that scenario. I just don’t like this whole BTT setup.

No. I know he was on the FF team, but I don’t know why I don’t remember him. He’s a pretty good player.

I think you're right it would be difficult to lose.  Outside of Iowa, Alabama, or Kansas winning their conference tournaments, I don't see how there's even a discussion over it.  Even so, I have no problem being a #2 seed or even a 3# seed at this point.

The good news is Illinois plays the 9th game of this tournament.  So there could be issues with other teams before they even get to our game.  So this could help protect our exposure if it indeed does become an issue.

I honestly think the Illini can manhandle Gonzaga. Kofi would dominate Timme. Kispert and Suggs haven’t seen defensive pressure like Frazier and DMW are applying right now. Plus the Illini have been flawless against skilled teams composed of mostly white and light skinned guys.

Wow, Iowa State is terrible. Just watched their game against Oklahoma. Tuned in for some former Illini connections. Lon Kruger is still a great coach. Glad we no longer have Coleman-Lands and didn’t get Conditt. It’s incredible how much our talent level increased once Groce got the fuck outta here.

It's not on yet, and I won't watch anyway, but .......
After losing to Baylor by a total of 79 points in 2 games, KSU gets another shot at the Bears today.
Five fingers. One fist. 🖐👊

Looks like a good stat sheet for Alan Griffin yesterday.
12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, no turnovers, 2 blocks and 1 steal.

How much you wanna bet Ratface and the media use Covid as the reason he didn’t make the NCAA tourney this year? Anything to not tarnish his record.

Really would have loved to see that happen to Izzo first.  Hopefully we get through today into tomorrow with no positive cases.  Really concerned about tomorrow.  If we can through all of friday and no teams have any positives, then we should be home free.

Gofs down 4 to tOSU with 30 sec to go, and brick a 3.
Down 1 with 9 sec. Bucknuts almost turned it over. Bucknuts call time out.
79-75. Poor gofs.

Moral victory time for the emaws.

This is the kind of game Bruce either pulls out of his ass and wins, or makes very close.

Accurate.

If you're old like me, you will also remember Bama knocking Illini out with a buzzer beater in 1986.
