Title: ILLINI # 1
Post by: ILLINICHIEF on January 29, 2026, 06:50:11 AM
Pretty interesting read here....transfer portal production by teams/players/outcasts/jump shippers.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-transfer-portal-top-players-at-new-schools-illinois-north-carolina/

Sometimes addition is a result of subtraction. Some of these past persons of interest is crazy to think about....seems like forever ago some were on our radar as well.

CamRon Fletcher High Point
Nimari Burnett Alabama

and others as well.

Crazy. Yet with all that attrition we're arguably better than we've been in years. Praise be to Underwood.  Forgot about hair those guys.

The only thing that proves is how much talent has been rolling through champaign lately, this years squad has got to be one of the best I've ever seen talent wise

And again, people need to give Tyler Underwood the credit he deserves…

Maybe we should win some second weekend games in TOTTM before giving anyone credit for anything.

Feel like we did that a couple years ago but maybe my memory failed me. Hopefully engineering the most efficient offense in the history of KenPom is a decent way to go deep in TOTTM.

The older I get, the less I am so enamored with getting "deep" into the tournament. Don't get me wrong as a lifelong CUB fan, winning a Championship is an amazing feeling, and I would want nothing less than to see our beloved ILLINI finally win one in my lifetime.

That said, this years games have been amazing to watch each one....far more exciting for the most part, and I have the same hope as in 89-05. Each game is building more and more hope, and at the end of 89-05 after my initial shellshock of losing a C-Ship game, I realized how lucky as a whole being a ILLINI basketball fan I am. Especially now, the Underwoods, Antigua, Alexander and others have made our teams routinely year in and year out a favorite to do good-great things.

Overall, I would rather have that hope and excitement every year, rather and than JUST a 1 time C-Ship win IF I had to choose. Hopefully we don't have to choose, but if so, well we as ILLINI fans are living some of our best fandom lives right now. Thank you ILLINI for every win, and every hope.

We all have lived though game in and game out agony of basketball, those were some Groce years LOL....

When I started following college ball, the NCAA tournament was mostly a reward for winning the regular season conference championship.
