Don't know much of anything about them this year.
Kalscheur can drain 3's. Marcus Carr has been playing well.
I think the rest of the starters may be transfers.
And Lil Ricky will Lil Ricky.

From today's fishwrap.

Players to watch: Gophers sophomore forward Isaiah Ihnen replaced senior Brandon Johnson in the starting lineup in Thursday’s win over Missouri-Kansas City. Ihnen posted a career-best 11 rebounds and two blocks in his first career start. Johnson returned to practice Monday, but his status is day-to-day with a left high-ankle sprain. Illinois’ 7-foot, 290-pound center Kofi Cockburn will be a tough matchup for 7-foot Gophers junior Liam Robbins, who had 27 points vs. UMKC. Cockburn has scored in double figures in five of six games this season. He had a season-high 19 points against Missouri.
Carr opened the season averaging 29.7 points in his first three games, but the Gophers have developed more balance in their past three wins. Seven-foot center Liam Robbins, a Drake transfer, overcame a slow start to the year and scored a season-high 27 points and five blocks against UMKC. Utah transfer Both Gach has been consistent, ranking second on the team in scoring (15.3), rebounds (6.2) and 3.8 assists

An ankle injury to starting forward and newcomer Brandon Johnson could hurt Pitino’s depth; Johnson’s status is day-to-day. The Gophers feel, though, they have the pieces when healthy to compete with anyone on their grueling schedule — something they can start to prove Tuesday night.

“I think we can be very difficult for other teams,” junior guard Gabe Kalscheur said. “A lot of people don’t talk about us. They talk about other teams. I feel like that’s not fair to us … We’re trying to make noise and put ourselves on the map again.”

Title: Re: Minnehaha
Post by: Custard on December 15, 2020, 08:51:02 PM
Bad start but after that we looked like we were playing NC A&T again. Missouri and Baylor really exploited our weaknesses. Minnesota did the same early but we adjusted and rolled them. This team will improve greatly as the guards gain chemistry.

That’s gonna have to be the key because...

Grandison is just lost out there. Holy shit. This team has a much shorter bench than any of us expected.

Random: Just realized Jalen Coleman-Lands is playing for Iowa State.

Hey, Papi!

Lol, a bit premature to make that call (NBA HoF). Does the names Jay Williams, Drazen Petrovic, Reggie Lewis, Derek Rose, Len Bias, Michael Ray Richardson, LaRue Martin, Latrell Sprewell, Sam Bowie, Brandon Roy, Maurice Stokes, Gilbert Arenas, Mark Price, Greg Oden mean anything to you? Hard to predict on court career-impacting injuries (Rose, Bowie, Roy, Stokes, Arenas, Price), self-destructive behavior (Williams, Bias, Richardson, Sprewell, Arenas), or untimely deaths (Petrovic, Lewis). Draft busts (Martin, Oden) happen, too.

Curbelo is off to a pretty good start in his basketball college career but enshrinement in the NBA HoF in Springfield...we'll see in @25 years if I'm still around.

I agree he's got the IT factor. And he's a pass-first player, which is awesome. Just need to make sure he can hit outside shots consistently, something Frank Williams was unable to do at the next level.

Loved the defensive effort after the first 10 minutes.  Would love to see that the rest of the season.  Also I know Hawkins doesn't really fill the stat sheet, but I really like what the kid brings to floor.  For a true freshman big he doesn't really hurt us a whole lot on the defense end and he has a nit for being in the right place at the right time in some key moments.

Carr is good player. Their team looked like shit. Odd nuthugging question about Ayo. He had bad game also.

Kofi had best game of year obviously, but Dakich aside, Kofi looks about the same as last year so far on offense, and is worse on Defense. Needs to makes big improvements before he can be considered at next level. I just want him to play well in BIG.

Ayo has been getting huge press, but he is 4-16 from 3 since the NCAT scrimmage. He is very good in midrange with some space and can be electric in open floor. I still think his lack of range is problem for us now, and him at next level.
We are much better team when he shoots less overall. 12-13 takes is about right.
The Duke offensive distribution was our best game and that is how we were good at end of last year,

That’s hilarious. Not surprised this current group of schlubs that cover the Illini wouldn’t touch that. They can’t even come up with questions I’d want answers to.

For the record I meant he’s not a riveting interview in general, not that this was a one-off. I don’t get the feeling he wants to be there and if that’s the case I hope we get interviews with players who will be happy to share some insight during this critical stretch run.

Kalscheur is out with a pinky.
Lil Ricky says he's the best perimeter defender in the league. He can get hot from 3 too.
Robbins is a "hopeful" with an anker.
Gofs are 13-1 at home, losing to the Terps. They have 5 home wins vs ranked teams.
Without Kalscheur, and with a hobbling Robbins, they lost at Indiana by 10.
Time to stop throwing the ball away and start valuing possessions.

Good entertainment so far. Has Bardo said anything yet about both teams throwing "the rock" away ?
Did I just hear Bardo say something about the 1951 Fighting Illini being known as the "Whiz Kids"?

Being a decade off doesn't mean anything.

I've read about them many times on my brother's toilet.

I thought Minny would put up a better showing this time around, but it was more of the same from the first meeting.

We looked every bit like a top 5 team from start to finish.

Better PG than a TV color man.

This is how a Top 5 team should look when they play an average team missing 2 starters.
Just bury them.
No more fcking the dog.

I've gotta think we'll switch places in the rankings with whoever loses tomorrow.

Today was a special day in a season that’s becoming full of them. I’m glad to see across the Illinisphere that our fans aren’t taking it for granted.

Where's the college baseball thread ?

Good start Caleb. What's next ? Catcher throws perfect game as last minute starting pitcher ? lol.
FAU freshman Caleb Peterson hit grand slams in his 1st 2 collegiate plate appearances yesterday vs UCF.
In the same inning.
