Win this one and we have a shot to tie for first place! Lets fucking go!
-
Their starters played like the whole game Sunday. Not sure what is going on there.
I think a winnable game.
-
hello? Its almost game time in one of our biggest games in probably 13 years!
is anyone home?
-
I知 here! Gonna be a HUGE opportunity for us tonight!
Is there a way to go to the last post made on a topic? So each time you come back on the site you don稚 have to find where the conversation and page was last?
-
Can click on "show unread post since last visit" but that's a bit cumbersome if you're want to refresh during the game. Maybe there's another way.
-
Giorgi, rough.
-
It's Ayo time. Look out folks!
-
Halfway there! Up 7 at the half 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
-
What was the foul descrepency that half 14:7? We are in big foul trouble. Kofi 2. Gorgi 3
-
Did the Illini list play better with a small lineup...without Kofi and Giorgi?

Seemed that way, but it was only 11 to 7
-
Officials aren't going to let it happen
-
Kofi really struggling, looks hurt.
-
Hack hack hack hack no whistle.
-
Hack hack hack hack no whistle.
It really is. Kinda ridiculous.
You can稚 call it on one end and swallow the whistle on the other....
-
The refs have been fine.
-
Wesson just totally owning Gio.
-
Lose this one and I can see 0-2 to finish the regular season. Come on guys, finish this game!!
-
Wesson just totally owning Gio.
I think Giorgi is broken. What the heck has happened to him?!?! 😔
-
Every fucking play
-
Gio and Trent, will either figure it out?
-
Officiating has completely decided this game . It's a fucking joke what Ohio State is getting away with game is fucking over
-
The officiating has been fine. UI has been slow, out of position, Bucks are bigger.
-
Can't blame the officiating when we can't hit much of anything
-
Pretty much Ayo by himself tonight. Feliz with good work in the first half but just awful effort and execution across the board in the second.
-
wtf was that Feliz?
-
Oh well. Regroup for the Squawks at home.
-
That was a real clunker. Trent needs to figure it out. Gio, looks pretty much done. He had a play today where he actually picked Feliz, leading to a wide open 8 footer. It really looked like he was trying to get in Feliz's way.
Worried about Kofi, he looked awful tonight.
Props to Ayo and Feliz. Feliz had 11 rebounds as a 6'2 G against some big boys. Incredible. Wish he could hit open threes.
-
Well that sucked.
-
FUCK!!!!!
-
I hope that reffing crews uber to the airport crashes into a gas tanker
-
God I hope we stomp the shit out of Iowa.
-
If Trent can't snap out of his funk we won't win another game this season.
-
Just curious what everyone else thinks.
We have no bigs who can pick and pop. We don't run an effective pick and roll. So; why not utilize the wings to set the ball screen?
-
We are a heavily defensive orientated team that quickly becomes average when Kofi goes to the bench. Our half court offense is just plain bad when Ayo is not in the game and when he is in the game he has to be spectacular just for us to be average. We can't set screens for shit, all of our pick and pops is more pop than pick. Ayo's athleticism camouflages our bigs inability to stay still when attempting to set one. More times than not even before the screen is even set, Ayo is around the corner and half way to the hoop.
-
God I hope we stomp the shit out of fucking iowa.
Yeah we just need to take care of business Sunday and get the double bye...
-
I for one did not enjoy watching EJ Liddell make Illinois his bitch down the stretch.
OSU has been playing good ball, we were at their place and I thought the officiating was a little inconsistent at times. I知 not saying it was egregious in favor of tOSU but more the kind of home cooking you have to expect to overcome to win on the road in the B1G against a quality opponent.
The thing that really stuck out to me was the rebounding. Typically one of our strengths but we got owned last night on the glass. Seemed like they had 15 extra possessions due to tap outs on long misses and they cleaned the defensive glass. I知 so used to the Illini getting second chance points off offensive rebounds and last night they were very few and far between. They had good position every time we went up with a shot. I think we even lost a rebound on a play where Feliz and another Illini player fought over the ball.
-
We didn't play that well last night but thought we got homered. Tough to lose an 8 point road game with a conference title potentially on the line where your best player has to sit for 10 minutes on some ticky-tack fouls and the other team shoots 3x as many free throws as you.

Thats because Kofi and Georgi got called for mostly bullshit in the first half and were in foul trouble the whole game... 5'9" Feliz and Damonte can't be asked to get every rebound and every bricked 3 from O$U seemed to clang right back to them... happens sometimes
The thing that pissed me off the most though was the complete inconsistency and horseshit calls in the first half, there were 15 fouls called in like the first 4 minutes, then what 19 for the entire half? Then they let them beat the piss out of each other in the 2nd half? How the hell are players supposed to adjust, especially if they are in foul trouble... total bullshit and the parade to the line most of the night and god awful shot clock management annoyed the fuck outta me. Totally unprofessional and in such a big game they should have had an actual good B1G reffing crew working the game.
-
They called 13 fouls on OSU in the game.
They called 13 fouls on Illinois in the first 22.5 minutes.
-
They called 13 fouls on Pompous Castoffs from Appalachia that cheer for the best professional sports teams in Ohio. in the game.

for the season
Illinois averages 16 fouls per game - had 22
O$U averages 17 - had 13
the worst part was when and where they called those fouls though as O$U got far more free throws out of the deal
Illinois was 9/10 free throws
O$U was 24/28!
O$U shot 3/15 from 3pt land and 38% from 2 and won by 8...
we shot 6/22 and 43.6% from 2... yeah...

They outrebounded OSU in the first half, when Kofi and Gio were on the bench. They got outrebounded in the second half, when they were in.
I agree that the refs changed the way they called the game though.

I was having flashbacks to 2005 UNC game....
-
OSU also played without their best player for almost the whole first half because he picked up two early fouls. They weren't anymore tick tack than ours, in fact I iirc one was pretty clearly a charge on Kofi. If Wesson hadn't gotten those I think the first half would have looked much different.
What I saw was mostly bigger, stronger players getting fouled more. It was comical watching Gio try to guard any of the O S U bigs. Of course he had to foul, there wasn't anything else he could do.
Kofi was no match for K. Wesson either.
There may have been a bit of usual Big Ten homerism but to me most of it was just being outmatched physically.

Except Sean May would have had two fouls called on him in the first five minutes.

They played Wesson with two for a lot of the first half.
I can't count how many times our dude got hammered in the lane with no call.
At the end of the day it's the consistency that's the real issue. It's impossible to know on any given possession whether contact is going to be called a foul or whether the defender can knock you to the ground with no call, and that makes it hard to know how to play.
I definitely don't think they deserved 3x as many free throws as us.
It's tough though because we also didn't shoot well or rebound well - do those things and it doesn't matter - but I did think it felt like 5-on-7 in a way that it didn't when we played like, at Rutgers, at Iowa, at Michigan, at Maryland, etc.
-
I would love to see an in-depth study on fouls called for home teams vs. away teams in the Big Ten. I feel like that disparity would be eye-opening.

Someone on another board that I frequent just today said there is such a study already. I'm skeptical.

KenPom measures Home court advantage for all teams. It usually in the 3.0 to 4.0 range for BT and most all Div 1 teams. We are at 3.1 and 169th in NCAA. Purdue is 3.9 and 30th.
Take that FWIW.
Obviously we can win on road when we are playing decent. We had a lead and let it go. Not going to win with Kofi having a bad game, TOs, poor rebounding, and not shooting well.
We need to win Sunday. fucking iowa is not a good road team.
-
Gotta give the bucks some credit. They played some fairly solid D. Not necessarily against Ayo, but the rest. They look like a very tough team.
-
For whatever reason I have not been that impressed with OSU other than Kaleb Wesson but all the metrics love them.
But when I look at the NCAA Net and KenPom, etc we are really way back in the pack in the BT behind everybody except Indiana and the shit teams. >:(
Looking at an 8/9 seed which is not a good place to be. Need to beat Iowa and win a couple in BTT to try and get to a 7 or 6.

Our NCSOS is awful, and we lost some of them.
