No one with a functioning brain thinks Ryan Poles deserves to lose his job this year. He is not going anywhere for at least a couple years. Has he been perfect? No. But that’s an absurd standard. No GM or coach is perfect. We can’t even be sure he wasn’t handed Eberflus as his head coach. I believe there’s an excellent chance George told Poles “choose one of these three.” Afterall, they were interviewing coaches before they even had a GM. Poles will get another HC hire if he wants one. And he should. I’d give his overall grade a B to B+. He’s rebuilt the roster to a point where they are an up and coming team in basically two years. Most GMs would still be 2-5 in this case.
Flus: I think he has some nice positives as a coach. Good at building relationships, pretty good defensive coach, the players play for him. But just too many in-game mistakes and the learning curve as a HC just doesn’t seem to be there. He’s a lot like Lovie IMO. Has some positives as a HC but just can’t out coach enough other coaches on game day. 4 blown games in which they had a 95% chance to win is pretty damning. I think Flus is toast minus a 7-3 finish. And he needs 6-4 to even entertain the idea of keeping his job IMO. The tough part of the schedule hasn’t even gotten here yet. He’s likely gone minus something pretty terrific.
Firing Flus last year would have been a tough break for him, but would have been defendable. I’d argue Doug Collins didn’t deserve to be fired by the Bulls but that worked out pretty good.
His replacement needs to be an offensive guy. At this point, Slowik is probably my choice, but that day isn’t here yet. But it’s almost certainly coming.

Gas station heroin is powerful stuff.
-
Waldron is a big problem. Just when it looked like he was turning a corner that MFer went full Getsy yesterday. He may be worse than Getsy.
-
I still think there’s a strong likelihood that Poles was told by George and Polian he could choose one of three candidates they’d already interviewed. Why else do HC interviews before GM interviews like the Bears did? I’m not sold that Flus was strictly Poles’ guy.
-
Please defend one of your idiots, Poles, waiving a FB only to have the ball given to a backup C at the goal line.
Please defend signing Lazy Sweat who is never on the field at crunch time.
The fact you think Fields is any good is apparently how you can defend morons like Poles and Eberlose.
-
Please defend why your guy Poles has a rookie from Yale playing LT.
Please defend why your guy Eberlose never seems to have his teama ready to play at the start of the game and what exectly the Bear did on the bye week to get ready for this game.
-
Please defend your guy Eberlose and all the pre-snap penalties by the OL.

Lol

Because the starter was hurt, and Larry Borom is on IR.

I thought the Kramer call was atrocious. Why would I defend it?
You and like 3 other people are unhappy with the Sweat deal.
See: Young, Bryce. Richardson, Anthony. Jones, Mac. Et al.

When did he become “my guy?” There are some things I like about him, but I’ve said lots of times he seems to be a better coach than head coach. I’ve said lots of times he needs to get better at the little things. As a HC, he’s a good defensive coordinator…
-
Mid 3rd round seems like good value on Amegadjie.

I can’t. I wouldn’t. It’s unacceptable. That’s why I expect Flus will be fired at the end of the year, and replaced with a guy like Slowik. I’m looking forward to the probable upgrade.

This must be from the same Talking Heads you relied upon for your Fields and Steeler D takes since this guy as a turnstile yesterday.
-
You have defended him the whole time he has been here.
I’ve been willing to give him time until he had a roster we can evaluate him fairly on. He’s got it now. It’s not going great. I’ve also said multiple times if they were drafting a QB (Caleb) that it would be smarter to bring in a new HC. I wasn’t going to rant about how bad Flus was when the team literally wasn’t even making a real effort to win his first year.
-
But if Flus manages to reel off 3 wins in a row they are 7-3. Not expecting it, but it’s not off the table. I don’t think Flus is horrendous. But I think he’s a replacement level coach. I’ve seen much worse.
-

Rookie LT struggles in debut. Probably the first time that’s ever happened.

You have been Behind The Curve since The COVID. Sad!
Another Poles mistake keeping him.

Bryce Young was starting because Andy Dalton got into a car accident. Yes - this 1st overall pick was slated to be benched in favor of Andy Dalton.

Cole Kmet says the busted Hail Mary coverage is an example of how Bears need to learn how to respect the game.
Said there were even instances in practice leading up to the game where guys were "laying off" and need to respect practice more.
But Tempo has needed time to determine whether Eberlose has been running a country club or not....
-
Lol yes, because rampant speculation is so reliable! Flus is supposed to be the effort coach. Not sure what happened. I’m not at Halas Hall so I can’t say.
-
When Flus first got here they said people were complaining practice was too hard. I honestly haven’t heard much about it since.

It appears Cole Kmet is confirming what sharp eyed lazy asses on their couches, like me, have seen during the Eberlose Era.

It was probably Fields who was feeding people that garbage.

I could sit here and speculate (and I have) but once again, I’m not making any grand proclamations with nothing to go on other than a hunch.

Stinky troll bait.

That’s literally all we do on here is speculate. So why can you speculate on everything else except that? It doesn’t make any sense…
-
I’ve wondered if the accountability has been there with this coaching staff for a while. Had some doubts, but nothing I was willing to run with. How the team reacts to this week will be very telling.

It is The COVID that did Tempo in.

Weird since I’ve never had it.

Flus better hope his on field response to this fiasco is better than his press conferences. STFU Matt. Just stop talking. You’re making a fool out of yourself.

I would tend to agree. Apparently none of our best pass rushers were on the field for the Hail Mary?

I am definitely not the only one unhappy with Sweat. I get that the X Echo Chamber loves Fields and Sweat.

I think Hamp and OB pointed out that he was asking for a breather on the very first series of the game. Was he too busy sitting on his ass eating Cheetos and playing video games during the bye to keep up with his conditioning?
-
I am definitely not the only one unhappy with Sweat. I get that the X Echo Chamber loves Fields and Sweat.
I haven’t heard one other person here unhappy with Sweat.

The defensive performance and metrics since Sweat’s arrival are pretty dramatic. I doubt it’s a coincidence.

It is Sad! that you have Miles on Block.
And he is not even on one of my text chains.

It is also not a coincidence that Joe Flacco and Daniels went down the field while Cheeto Eating Sweat (thanks, Miles!) was on the sidelines. For $98m you would think he would prefer a pricier snack like a Krunchers snack chip.

I believe JJ said he felt that was more of an Eberflus issue. I’d tend to agree. 99% of the football world thinks the Sweat trade has been a win for the Bears.

I am sure that is 99% on The Twotter who still think Fields is good. They certainly do not appear to consider those games they have lost with an over 90% win expectancy where he was standing on the sidelines with orange fingers.

I guess Sweat should give back his pro bowl bonus from last year since PAMan thinks he didn’t deserve it.

Yeah. Google, Bears beat reporters, 670thescore and AM1000. Bears podcasts, including your favorite with Hoge and Carman. The Twotter is a place where many sources are shared. It isnt a news source itself.

LOL. Didn't you say all the beat reporters sucked? The only time I saw Hoge and Carman was when they were mocking you.

Seriously? LOL. Remember when Mitch made the Pro Bowl?

I think they could do a better job at providing information on the things we can’t see on a daily basis. I actually thought their questions for Flus today were pretty solid. But Flus evaded them like prime Gale Sayers.
-
Seriously? LOL. Remember when Mitch made the Pro Bowl?
So pro bowls mean nothing now. Got it. Until the day it supports your narrative, anyway.
-
Didn’t Mitch get in because 2-3 other guys wouldn’t or couldn’t go?

They have not meant anything for awhile, have they? They do not even have the game anymore.

But that hasn’t stopped you from fellating them for months.

Because it obviously stopped meaning anything to the players too.

Well, that video is hilarious.

For the record, I wasn’t against the Sweat trade and that hasn’t changed. The Bears D has looked much better with him and that can’t be disputed. I just found that particular tidbit of him appearing gassed early on vs the commanders to be rather eye opening.

Spin this, PAMan.

Spin this, PAMan.
It is not as if it was the first time it happened since Sweat has been here. Sweat taking full advantage of Eberlose County Club's benefits.
-
A lot of the tape coming out of the locker room today doesn’t sound good for Flus’ future. Sounds like they’ve been told to can it.
-
I wonder if Poles is allowing this because he’s giving Flus the rope to hang himself.

Why?
His FA signings have sucked.
The OL sucks.
The DL sucks.
The coaches suck.
He wasted draft picks on bad WRs, including Claypool.
Didn't he let Montgomery go and then had to sign Swift?
Granted, the secondary is pretty deep but they have given up on Eberlose. And no coaches have been escorted out of Halas Hall by HR this year.
What gives you confidence in Poles making the right call? You crowed all last year about cap space and draft picks. How is it looking?
-
Also Poles fell for the It was Mooney's and not Fields' Fault when deciding to sign the oft Injured Allen over keeping Mooney
-
Although I think it is a complete lie and coverup for the fact no one wanted Fields, trading Fields to Pittsburgh for 6th/4th when he allegedly could have gotten more for him disqualifies Poles from continuing as GM.

It’s actually looking pretty solid. There are som gaps to fill, but there is still money in the coffers and solid draft capital. You are delusional if you think the team would be a finished product in 1.5 seasons after starting from scratch. There will be quality coaching candidates very interested in the Bears.
-
Expecting every move a GM makes to work out is delusional thinking. Even the best GMs swing and miss all the time.
-
We probably lucked into the team not being good enough to overcome Eberflus.
-
For those not catching the sleight of hand going on here: this is the same guy who said the Bears would overcome Eberflus and get to the Super Bowl. And now he’s claiming everything sucks and AOTC. Can’t make this up.

They weren’t using him. What’s the problem? I’d argue they should have used him, but they didn’t so might as well get something for him.
-
Talk that Eberflus may be back next largely because he has a 5 year contract and was given that for the “rebuild.” If Flus is back next year, all bets are off. Poles deserves his fate. But as I’ve said before, I think his hands might be tied on Eberflus. And I’m not at all convinced Poles was allowed to pick his own coach from his own pool. Why else would McCaskey and Polian interview HC candidates before GM?

I brought up a dozen posts from the last year and a half clearly showing I had little attachment if any to Eberflus, yet ThePAMan persists. FAKE NEWS.
-
Poles has to act today or he will lose more credibility than he’s already lost in the last couple of weeks. Somebody up at Halas Hall has to look like a strong leader. You can’t subject Caleb to more of this without action. Waldron needs to be fired today.
-
And I expect he will be.

Pretty spot on. You could also change the name Caleb to Justin and apply it to most of the last two years. As he said, “nothing has changed.”
-
It boggles my mind that you expect AOTC points for constantly saying the Bears suck while at the same time predicting them to make the Super Bowl.
-

You keep omitting that I said they would have to overcome your guy Eberlose. I was wrong. Very wrong.
Now admit you were wrong about Eberlose early on when I was right about him
-
It boggles my mind that you expect AOTC points for constantly saying the Bears suck while at the same time predicting them to make the Super Bowl.
Easy schedule, good secondary, decent defense (absent Sweat refusing to play at crunch time), allegedly good receivers (oops), thought the line would be better given all the cap room (spent on Sweat and Moore, unfortunately). Eh, I was wrong. I should not have been so positive given how Eberlose runs a country club.
-
You keep omitting that I said they would have to overcome your guy Eberlose. I was wrong. Very wrong.

But you also love to talk about how the whole roster sucks minus the secondary. Yet they will overcome a bad coach, a bad roster, and a bad GM to make the Super Bowl. So, in other words, you seem to be gaslighting yourself.
-
It’s not hard to be “right” 97% of the time when you constantly rail on everything Bears/Sox/Illini. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

Waldron gone. Eberlose and Poles are next. The Axis of Incompetence is crumbling.

According to Silvy some Bears players went to Poles and Flus requesting a change at OC…and apparently some have requested Tyson Bagent start.

AOTC on Your Guys Eberlose (until you realized they were getting rid of Sh1t) and Poles sucking ass. They have lost the locker room.

Yeah, my guy; the one I said should just be replaced if they were drafting a QB.

Yeah, my guy; the one I said should just be replaced if they were drafting a QB.
Which is exactly what I noted. You said you could understand (lOl) getting rid of him if they were drafting a new QB. Eberlose has sucked ass since he got here but you were clueless.
Washington brings in 30 guys and turns things around overnight but we have to give Poles and Eberlose 3 years to keep sucking ass. You are clueless.
-
Being turned around "overnight" is rare and never lasts. Poles has a long term vision. certainly not mistake free, but again no GM is. Can he learn from his mistakes. We're literally a year and a half into the rebuild.
-
Daboll turned around the Giants in one year. How is that looking?

LOL. Let me know when the long-term vision includes actually building an OL and not getting ripped off by Sweat and DJ Moore. Also, the Commanders say "Hold my beer."

Everyone but them knew paying Dan Jones was a bad decision.
Their GM is a lot like Poles. Thinks he is playing Madden.

We’ll see if it lasts. Their division is terrible. The Bears should have beaten them if not for colossally dumb decision making down the stretch. The next 2.5 years will tell us how good or bad of a GM Ryan Poles is.

Saying 3 to 5 years was a gimme there....

Howie Roseman, widely hailed as a great GM went 8-8 and then 4-12 and fired Andy Reid (the new GOAT) after inheriting a team coming off 3 playoff appearances. I’m betting you’d be pretty pissed if the Bears had Andy Reid and fired him.

Bear never would have hired him due to the Abe Gibron PTSD

Some thoughts on Poles: I’m nowhere near on the “Fire Poles!” train yet, but the reasons to criticize him are piling up. Why the fuck did we invest a 4th round pick on a backup RB that we barely use? You can potentially find a starting guard or DT with a 4th rounder.
Another thought: things probably are not as bleak as they seem. It’s just a really bad 16 day stretch; which granted will likely turn into a much longer one. Get a good HC (preferably an offensive one unless it’s Belichick or Carroll) in here next year and make a couple solid additions to each line, and I think you’re fine.
Again, I’m not at all convinced the McCaskeys were willing to sign off on canning all of the coaches after two years. So I have a hard time hanging that on Poles.
-

You've said it at least 20x. So say it again. Even tho nobody cares.
So, where are the cheapest gas prices in the Itasca/River Grove/Lisle area? Might be good to know.

Did you see Harbaugh tonight:
1)Didn't settle for a long FG. Runs another play to get even closer for his kicker.
2)He defended the sideline on the play before the Bengals hail mary. Guess what else he did? He called a timeout to make sure everyone was on the same page for the hail mary. And they were!
It's like Harbaugh knows how to coach or something. Eberfuck is in way over his head.

Only after it was obvious Sh1t was gone. You kept saying it was unfair to judge him when they were trying to lose. The fact is he was not "trying" to lose. He was just losing. He is not a HC.
-
I literally don't care anything about what happened in 2022. That team was not trying to win, nor did they have the talent to win. And that was largely by design. Coaching rarely cost them shit that year, if ever. I will admit that I've been a firm Poles backer. As far as Flus, I took a wait and see approach because I knew he wasn't going anywhere. Unlike you, I was not delusional enough to think they would hire Harbaugh.

If it were all about skin color for me explain why I like Bernie Sanders more than Barack Obama. Explain why I’d rather have Mike Shanahan coach the Bears, than Mike Tomlin. Explain why Doug Altenberger is my all-time favorite Illini (ok that’s only half-true, it’s a tie with Kendall Gill).

Saying he is better than Pace is quite the deflection, as you would assert.

The list of things to criticize him for is growing, sure. But what I’ve told you 40x and it still fails to compute is no GM wins move after move. Every GM in the league has a few notable blunders on their ledger.

No. Ryan Pace was steal from tomorrow to be mediocre today. For the most part, Poles doesn’t do that. You’re making grand assumptions here. The book is yet to be written on how good Poles is just yet. Who knows, maybe he’ll bomb out yet.

I honestly don’t know how good of a GM Ryan Poles is yet. For the most part, I think he’s done a good job here. Head coaching candidates are going to find this roster pretty appetizing this off season.

The trade with the Panthers alone is enough to offset those errors. It’s already widely regarded as one of the bigger swindles in NFL history.
-
I think it’s a pretty general consensus that Howie Roseman is a top flight GM? He oversaw the firing of Andy Reid and has 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks that haven’t broken the starting lineup yet. Busts.
-
He also hired Siriani who most people think does more harm than good.
-
Siriani’s initial presser was Beckmanesque.

The stats say the Bears had more first downs, more yards. converted a good percentage on 3rd and went 3 for 3 on 4th down. And from what I heard our QB outplayed theirs. Doesn’t sound like a total ass whipping to me.

Who said it was? There was a lack of a pass rush. The Packer, when they had the ball, moved it.
LaFleur was a shithead who fucked up, which will get swept under the rug by Eberlose's incompetence. And Love did his thing in the Red Zone.

They are. They also have no pass rush and refuse to blitz. That's coaching too.

If I'm not mistaken, you took Jobu's side (burn it all down again) because the team is hopeless. Then said I couldn't have an informed opinion (things aren't as bad as they seem) because I didn't watch the game yesterday. What am I getting wrong here?
-

According to ESPN the Bears are 5th as a team in pass win rate. They were also missing a key player on the line. And I'm hearing Sweat might be playing hurt.

The Packer had 6 possessions: 3 TDs. 1 Int at the goal line. 1 turnover on downs inside the 5. At least 5 possessions they went 60 yards. Borderline elite D!
Your takes are actually better when you don't watch the game though!

But hasn't Howie Roseman focused on building lines on both sides of the ball? Just go back to playing Madden!
-
Ok, now the attention to Ryan Poles tightens. He deserves a fair bit of criticism for how this has unraveled, but I still think he’s done an overall good job and should get to hire his own HC, not someone from a short-list that was handed to him by George and Bill Polian.
I really don’t think things are as dire as they seem. The roster is on the upswing and they have another free agency and draft class coming in. Two relatively high 2nds are likely. Out of the Bears’ 8 losses I think a minimum of 5 of them can be placed on Flus/Waldron. Hire a competent HC and this team could definitely compete for the division next year.
-

He’s been there like 15 years. Their line a year or so ago were mostly vets who’ve been together for years. Much like the Lions line you mistakenly thought was built overnight.
-
He traded for AJ Brown, drafted a1st round WR around the same time and spent FA money on an aging RB; so I guess he’s prioritized more than line play.

I agree with this observation.
-
There are good pieces on this team just need to shore up some of the obvious weak points (O/D line) and for once in like forever the QB position isn't an issue, and Caleb has got "it" I think. I feel bad for him and I wish the rest of the team cared about winning as much as he seems to do.

Neither line is solid. That's problematic. And Poles' fault.

But does Williams run downfield and block people in the back?
-
I never said the Lion line was built overnight.
You heavily implied it. You seemed to be under the impression the new regime had built the line up, when in fact like 4 of them have been there for years. Sewell I believe was the only addition under the new regime.

A FA and high draft pick on each side should help a lot.

You know guys, PAMan is RIGHT. A couple high picks and a couple FAs for each line isn’t going to be enough to get the Bears to 20-0 next year with 20 blowout wins. He’s RIGHT. We need a complete OVERHAUL.
-

2 FA and 2 draft picks would help immensely over 1 and 1.
-
I’m saying at least a one FA for each line and a 1st and 2nd round pick (I’d spend my first 4 picks on the OL/DL) plus a coaching upgrade could help a lot.
-
Get Billings back, add a FA and a 1st rounder to the Dline; give Austin Booker, Dexter, and Pickens another year to develop. Should be pretty serviceable, if not a strength.
Get a proven FA guard or two add a 2nd round center (probably add a 2nd round guard); better scheme, better coaching. No reason the Oline can’t be vastly improved.
-
Still kind of dysfunctional they let Eberflus address the media this morning (still as HC). Things are fixable, but they need to be less sloppy.

https://www.chicitysports.com/ryan-poles-chicago-bears-fleeced-eberflus
Per Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, the Indianapolis Colts were set to fire Eberflus from their defensive coordinator position after the 2021 season. Eberflus wasn’t a candidate for other defensive coordinator gigs around the league in the 2022 offseason. Still, Poles entrusted him with overseeing a roster rebuild in Justin Fields’ critical second season in the NFL.
What a shocker that Poles looks like a big dummy.
-
Never ever understood that hire. Definition of uninspired. Hiring the defensive coach of a bad team who was about to be fired is the most Bears thing ever.
-
Jacksonville was set to hire Eberflus as HC when the Bears hired him. That’s why the Bears gave him a 5 year contract.
-
Eberflus had George written all over him. Mild mannered, was going to bring back hard work and discipline. They came in getting complaints that practices were too hard and then we never heard about or saw accountability since then.
-
Jacksonville was set to hire Eberflus as HC when the Bears hired him. That’s why the Bears gave him a 5 year contract.
Not according to that article.
-
Not according to that article.
And that article is the be/all end all? Everyone with a functioning brain knows Polian and George gave Poles a list of 3 to choose from. With Polian and Armstrong in the mix it was basically an arranged marriage.
-
Having said that, I think Poles genuinely liked Flus. But it was definitely an arranged marriage for the most part.
-
In Poles' defense, he was hired just two days before the Bears hired Eberflus back in 2022. Poles didn't get to conduct his own search for a head coach, rather he was handed three finalists: Eberflus, Dan Quinn and Jim Caldwell.
-
Flus was hired 3 weeks after the season. That’s a long time to wait on firing a coach if you’re looking to do so. So skeptical as to the veracity of this report. Who waits until a month after the season to fire a HC or DC?
-
I'll await Mike Florio's input. That Eberlose was on the way out on Indy makes a lot of sense.
-
It’s possible, but I’m not sure how many coaches are fired weeks after the season. Usually that’s done by Tuesday after the last game.
-
Definitely a lot more holes to poke in Poles over the last 6 weeks, but I think most of the outrage is an overreaction. What was Ryan Pace's biggest weakness? Not hitting on day one and two picks. Ryan Poles has hit on every 1st and 2nd round pick he's had in 3 years. And that's 7 picks, 4 of them 2nds. Caleb, Rome, Wright, Dexter, Gordon, Brisker, and everyone thought Stevenson was good until his mental meltdown in Maryland.
It's too bad he traded for Claypool (although you can justify why he did it). That pick could have been Joey Porter (and was for Pittsburgh). I'm stil convinced that with a better coach and an off-season addressing some obvious needs (which they have the resources to do), things could be looking bright again.
-

I agree with this regarding Poles…

*off-season* not offensive season
-
If you could assure me that the new GM is an upgrade (you probably couldn't), I'd be willing to listen. Poles has done some good things here. The Bears need to find some long-term stability, and I think pulling the plug on Poles is premature.
-
The knives are out. Clean house before they screw up another head coach decision
-
It’s so Bears that they’d make an arranged marriage of sorts coaching situation for a new GM while trying to rebuild. Should never be in that spot.
