Title: Kurt Warner on Caleb
Post by: Reacher on September 10, 2024, 03:59:55 PM
A lot interesting stuff. I’ll try to encapsulate as best I can:

https://youtu.be/yuo3XMwwN70?si=41I5BMelErXUPfP0

Caleb stayed locked on to #1 too long. League has gone much more “pure progression” which he doesn’t like. Slows things down. Prefers to focus on smaller keys and react. Says Houston did not ask Stroud to read full progressions.

Says he’s not convinced Caleb is athletic enough (at this level) to make the plays he consistently made in college. When asked by PM if he is “encouraged,” Warner’s response was a hesitant “Let’s just say I’ve seen some good things.” Also made sure to point out, it’s only one game. Too early to tell.

Speigel was smart to follow up on the difference between pure progression and reading the defense as a whole. Interesting stuff. Reminded me of when I heard Tom Brady say he knew where he was going before the snap. Warner differentiates from that a little, but similar thought processes.

Also said the QB shouldn’t be worrying about all of the protections but moreso certain guys.

Custard, shouldn't this be in the Caleb Williams Failed Ernest Whitlock thread?
Title: Re: Kurt Warner on Caleb
Post by: Custard on September 10, 2024, 04:57:37 PM
Yeah it kinda feels like he made a “failed me” post but disguised it with this title to make it seem like it needed its own thread. Tsk tsk.

Those troll bait threads don’t deserve the recognition. This is actual analysis from one of the best to ever do it. Nothing here is “my thoughts.”
Title: Re: Kurt Warner on Caleb

And I’m firmly in the “it’s one game” camp. I think Caleb is going to be very good, if not great.
Title: Re: Kurt Warner on Caleb

And I’ll go one further. I’ve said lots of times the case to move on from Fields can be justified. Probably for the first time, I’ll say drafting Caleb was probably the right move. Though again, I think both avenues could have paid good dividends.

As for my own analysis, as I said many times for Justin; Caleb wasn’t good, but then neither were many around him, either. I think he was a bit too amped up. I expect it to get a lot better, and sooner rather than later.

You obviously weren’t, as you tried to paint this as a “Caleb failed Wayne Whitlock” thread.

It’s objective analysis from one of the best to ever do it. I thought he had some interesting things to say.

Oh man. Caleb Williams failed Wayne Whitlock
Title: Re: Kurt Warner on Caleb
Post by: Jobu on September 10, 2024, 08:15:27 PM
In all seriousness, Caleb played like a rookie that wasn’t used to the speed of the game yet. That throw he missed to Allen was inexcusable. That particular throw is completed 100 times out of 100 in practice and warm ups. Should be muscle memory. He missed it, and it sucked.

The line is terrible. They have to do something about that. What, I don’t know. But 65 being an absolute dogshit blocker in the middle is not ok. And teams will absolutely exploit that shit.

OLine must be a priority to improve. Soon.

So, just like I suspected, Tempo is going to mine the internets for negative shit on Williams and bring it every week. Can’t wait.

Gonna be another long fucking season.

JFC. I provided objective analysis from experts on QB play. Are you guys really this fucking sensitive?

I’m “mining the internets” for videos from the same fucking people I posted stuff from when Justin was here. Change your fucking bloody tampon, Jobu.

I literally posted shit regularly from Warner, O’Sullivan, and Jenkins when Justin was here. JFC this place is full of fucking crybabies.

You only posted positive takes about Fields. And you will only post negative takes about Williams. We get it.

And we know you don’t have original thoughts. You don’t have to remind us.

It doesn’t take Kurt Warner to tell me Williams didn’t play well lol.

As far as the rest of the insults and the mini tantrum, well, I’ll just let that speak for itself.

You agenda is apparent. Own what you are.

Who has been sucking him off? Nobody. But you’re the dude that has to go out of your way to look for negative shit. It will happen all year. We know this.

I shared my own thoughts earlier. I didn’t need Kurt Warner or anyone else to tell me he had some issues. It’s obvious to anyone that has ever watched football.

I’m gonna go ahead and drop a steamer of a hot take here right now. Williams is gonna struggle against the Texans. Big time. He might actually suck. Can’t rule it out.

I regularly shared full videos (of the good and bad) from Warner, O’Sullivan, Jenkins, and Chase Daniel last year when they weren’t paywalled. You can cry otherwise all you want, you’d still be wrong.

I expect some ups and downs. He’s a rookie. If I was looking to bash him I’d have done it Sunday. It was his first start and the rest of the offense was pretty trashy, too. He definitely gets a pass on game 1.

Fair. I trashed him for missing the easy TD. Because he should have been.

That line is fucking garbage. It’s gonna be a problem all year.

Again, I shared a bunch of content from those same guys regarding Justin. Not all of it was positive. Especially from Warner and O’Sullivan. I’m not 99% over the Justin Fields thing (but I’ll still root for his success). I’m trying to give Caleb every bit as much benefit of the doubt as I did Justin. But I expect Caleb’s learning curve to be shorter since he’s a higher projected talent and seemingly has very adequate support (that Justin never had).

I think a lot of Caleb’s problems Sunday were just nerves. He’ll shake that. If Keenan Allen catches that TD pass it wouldn’t have looked so bad.

I’ve said I don’t blame Caleb for having a shitty outing Sunday. It was his first real game, and the whole offense was shit. I’ve said drafting him was the right thing to do. I’ve said I expect him to be very good to possibly great. Not sure what else I can say. Fields is gone, I accepted that months ago.

Oh gee, I hope so. That’s one more thing I can ignore. Because I don’t need these overpaid dipshits to tell me what I’m watching.

Interesting watch. They really geeked out on the nuances of playing quarterback. Jenkins never played the game like Warner but I think is just as good or maybe even better at explaining it. Said there was really only one play he found super bothersome. Said that there were 4 plays that if they even hit 2 nobody is really making an issue of the offense or qb play.

He differed from Warner some over pure progression vs “PSL (basically post snap look).” Enjoyed his analysis there.

Laurence asked him why Stroud was so successful and he said it’s because they did perhaps the best job he’s ever seen of marrying OSU concepts to NFL concepts. Said he sees no USC concepts in the Bears offense, and that a lot of coordinators don’t even attempt to do that but just want to teach the NFL way.
