Hey guys.
I needed some time to get my mind right. Was in a bad place for a while, and honestly, still not in the greatest place, but I've missed talking to some of you guys too. So, I'm back I guess. I don't anticipate participating much in all the political bullshit because it mostly makes me nauseous, but I'm excited that NFL training camp is about to start, and we're witnessing possibly the worst ever season for an MLB club in our Chicago White Sox. So, yeah, that's awesome.
Anyway guys, I've missed you. I'm sure you haven't missed me much, but hey. What the fuck. Suck my cock. Assholes.

Great to have you back

Good question. I have a trial set for November around Dad's Day and the Sparty game. I'll have to see if I have my shit together to fit everything in.

Sweet. We'll see how it goes.

Good to see you, Jobu. I haven’t been on much lately myself.

Thanks, Hawk.

Glad to be back, pussyfart.
Oh hey, I would much prefer pics of gals you are fucking than your political opinions. K thanks.
Basically, what I'm trying to say. Show me your latest conquest. I want to live vicariously through you in that regard.

Welcome back. It's been an old goat political circle jerk around here for far too long.

Hey Jobu, welcome back, I'm sure you're looking forward to our Illini pigskin woes coming up in a few weeks as much as I am!

Cub adding $70 in fees for Illini - NU Wrigley tickets....not worth paying $100 or more per seat for 4 tickets to see those 2 teams play.

Murph, where your kid going to live? Not enough dorm rooms down there. RAs are going to have double up and single rooms will have 2 to a room. Reading that they are offering $2k and 100 meal passes to get people to opt out of the dorms.

Sounds like section 8 housing vouchers

Our timing is a bit off - my sister in law is selling her house. If Liam were definitely going to UIUC I'd buy it from her.
I suspect Freshmen will be prioritized to get a dorm slot the first year. If he didn't end up in a Fraternity, we'd probably buy something....
Which - that's becoming a big problem down there. People buy a house for their kid - great idea, the kid has a place to live and they get a little income from the roommates. Maybe they have multiple kids and it is used for several years.
Then when the kids are done, they don't feel like being slumlords. The house has appreciated in value, but isn't a primary residence so selling has a tax hit. Champaign is cheap enough and hey football and basketball games are cool - let's just keep the house on campus as a pied a terre. On a campus with a housing shortage.
Though I can't quite figure out how there is a housing shortage with all those giant ass apartment buildings. Then again, they probably don't match the budget I had - we were boxed in 7 people in the house at 36 E Chalmers. While it was recently remodeled when we got it, the remodel was the definition of "basic, functional" I look at the promo ads on the sides of these buildings like "The Hub" and it looks like a high end condo for Facebookers living in Palo Alto. OK, not Palo Alto, they won't allow such things, but downtown Sunnyvale maybe.

Blame the administration for sucking up to Chinese parents with cash and nowhere to put it.

And there is a personal trauma involved here. I applied to a few schools, and procrastinated until the last minute on picking my destination even though UIUC was pretty much baked in. So I accepted my invitation and applied for a dorm and got DENIED.
My dad says "Don't worry, I'll call Father blah blah over at Newman". I don't think "blah blah" was still the priest but the point stands, he thought he'd have some pull but basically Newman wasn't sold out and that's where I lived. Great location, shitty dorm. I guess physically it wasn't any worse than the Six Pack, but the cafeteria sucked ass and it wasn't co-ed. St John's also owned a building across the way behind Alpha Phi called "Newman House" that had a random assortment of a dozen or so women living there, not exactly the same experience as the Six Pack. And the only laundry facilities for Newman were over in the basement of Newman House, eventually we gave up and went to a coin op store front somewhere. What a waste of my Freshman year to live there.

Word. My sister in law says the car dealerships in town have made major bank.
Now multiply that by 4x and you have Purdue. UIUC's international enrollment is still relatively low. Higher than it probably should be. For that I would blame Springfield, but like I said, it's nowhere near as bad as the other big ten schools in more purple or light red states.

Sounds like this is the basis for a lot of your angst on display here.

I'm thinking you are overthinking the demand for football and basketball game housing....

Perhaps.
The anecdotal case is more than just Football and Basketball. It's tied in to post-COVID corporate mobility, where working from Champaign for a couple weeks occasionally is appealing enough to tie up some housing stock. Matches up with us being nominally in Mountain View, but refraining from getting a long term renter in Sonoma County because we will go up there for weeks at a time, and also basically use stays there as currency for things like tutoring or dogsitting

I was thinking the same thing, but he probably would have knocked some broad up in that alternate reality freshman year and ended up stuck in Illinois working at Caterpillar.
