Guess I gotta keep making these threads!

We're favored by 7.5!

Lets keep it going!

We’re coming off a grueling emotional road win, playing in a small gym against a scrappy opponent. All the makings of a loss.

I think we pull away for a 15 point win though

A source tells me that tPSU had been seeing diminishing contributions from Clary and, yes, he/she/they is happy they're playing in Rec Hall where they play better.

I’m not thrilled with giving up 41 points in a half to a PSU team that scored 49 total against Nebraska. The good news is that PSU decided to match our defensive effort, or lack thereof.

Defense has got to improve, the guys gonna get a new one ripped over the inbounds baskets givin up, and the shot to get us to 48, BU should install that more often. Hawk into the lane, TSJ on the wing, defense has to gravitate to him and push to Goode for the 3. Good set and great pass by CoHawk.

Those back door layups are disgusting. Funny things happen when players move and pick on offense.
Play defense dammit.

Garbage against the pressure, 1 primary ball handler for most of the game, passive defense with I don't know, about 30 layups. This team is so up and down it is ridiculous.

TSJ thank you, the rest well...piss off, get pissed off, or this season will be a waste of some serious talent coming back and coming in via transfer.

No excuse for this game, the coaching was horrendous, the players showed nothing to start the game to stay in contention with Purdue....NO WAY this team wins more than 1 in March and maybe not that either...no consistancy when it matters!!

Also, have never expected this team to get to the 2nd week of the tournament this year.   Underwood needs at least 3 All Americans to do that.

This is underwoods worst defensive team he has ever had in the 7 years here with illinois.  Thats how bad we are now Per kenpom.   And that was with a top 10 rating after 10 games already this sesson which has now crashed harder than any other teams in the country in that same time frame.

On the bright side we are firmly off the 4/5 seed line.  We'll be lucky to split our remaining games.

Hawkins can shut the fuck up.  And fucking play.  Lets go back over the whole season and count how many times hes bitching to the refs about his weak ass not being to take contact on a lay up all the while his man takes it down the floor for an and 1.  All the while bitching to the ref about the red scratch on his arm.  Dude is too frail for the NBA.  And mentally not there yet.

And those bleeping zebras allowed PS to have guys switch sides of the lane just as the ref was getting ready to toss the ball to Hawkins on both free throws.
Underwood needs to wake up. Shit defense where they can't stop drives to the lane, back door cuts. Defense 101.
And too many damned times Domask gets doubled up in the backcourt, gets trapped, looses control, etc. Absolutely sucks.

Not good. Makes you vulnerable even with our good offense when you let teams hang around. We have become like the high octane Iowa teams with Garza and Murray. Can’t stop the ball.  Very basic shit.

I still think that defense is an afterthought for Underwood and nobody on the staff, if anybody is trying, can convince him to come to his senses.
We'so so potent on offense that we don't have to worry about defense is a good way to lose to any well coached team.

Can't recall the last time a team won it all by just playing offense with no defense. Not in college not in the NBA. Sure the Warriors had some years with a new style of offense that had teams on their heels, but they also had guys playing legit defense like Draymond, Iguodala, etc.

We're destined to lose early in the tournament unless that changes. I'll stick to my earlier post that were breaking our sweet sixteen drought this year. But that's about it.

I think any team with a lead guard(s) who can penetrate and score or kick, any decent big who can score inside, and a wing or two who can shoot the three ball a little bit can beat us on any given night.
Bonus points if they can run and jump trap our ballhandlers or post and recover, and god help us if they have a team of aggressive quick on ball D guys.
Imagine us vs Houston or Iowa State or Auburn.

I just don't think we have the quickness to stay in front of people or make them uncomfortable feeding the post or running their sets. We are the Washington Generals on D right now.
We were moving and working much harder on positioning and pack line earlier on. Once we started clicking on offense we have been fucking the dog.
It seems like an effort and intensity thing. But we just are not very quick.
We are near last in country in forcing TOs.

I remember last year when we would talk about the next opposing guard who would have a career night against our shit Olé drop coverage trying to make teams shoot "tough twos".
We were doing better this year in first half. In freefall since.

This year it is picking the guards who can get to the tin at will on us and create havoc.

I know it has been said by a few guys here, but 10-12 mpg of Sincere Harris would be good right now.
He could dog the point guard, disrupt a little bit, and bring some intensity.

DGL seems to have some of that intensity. When Kern was scoring at will, Underwood could have looked at DGL and told him to get in the game and dog the shit out of Kern.
But Underwood appears to have no interest in disrupting the other team's tempo, while he watches the coach on the other bench do it.

Up 8 with 2 minutes to go. Goode misses from 3 in the corner, with 22 seconds left on the shot clock.

Just read on Google News a story from Champaign Room concerning last night's debacle and pretty much the problems of the last 6-8 games. Bad coaching, lack of fundamentals, lack of killer instinct. And why does BU have his son sitting there with him and not Frazier, who actually played Big10 basketball pointing things out?
Too many non-conference games against weak opponents (EIU, WIU, Valparaiso, Colgate, Oakland) will make your defensive efficiency look good.

We are 7-4 in last 11 games in a league with only two ranked teams.
Have had a couple close wins and close losses so it kind of evens out.

Can't win them all, but I think what you see is what you get right now.

The defense is a problem that needs to be addressed.

We could make a run to EE or get knocked out in first round.

And I wondered why Harmon was taking our last shot with a, what, 1 on 3 at the rim ?
We ran TSJ into the corner and he was covered, which took him out of the play. PSU left Harmon open, so we obliged and inbounded the ball to him.

Hard to say. We can compete with anyone it appears, but allow anyone to compete with us.
We will be a 4/5/6 seed at this point which means a 13/12/11 first round game. Not a gimme.
Second round will be a 5/4/3 game (or a hot midmajor du jour) which will be a very tough one no matter what.

Need to start playing some D.

Almost 24 hours later and this shit still pisses me off. I’ve never been so fucking angry like this after a loss. Usually I process them and within 10-15 minutes I go on with my day. But this…I still can’t wrap my head around.

We had a 12 point lead with 5 minutes. 10 point lead with 2:30 left. 7 point lead with 40 seconds left. We had ONE FUCKING JOB which was not to play like a bunch of low thinkers. And we did exactly that and more.

This was like Northern Iowa blowing a 10 point lead with 30 seconds in the tourney against Texas A&M. But at least they still had a chance in overtime. PSU snatched our souls out and denied us even that opportunity.

We just gave up 90 points in a 40 minute game to the 169th ranked offensive efficiency team and who’s leading scorer is no longer on the team. Our defense, to quote Family Guy, is full blown aids.

It's taken me about 20+ hours to come down off the ceiling.  I sure hope this loss sends the right message.  So many ways we pissed this one away like NW and MSU.

Taking a step back, we do have 4 road conference wins, which isn't shabby, and all of our road losses were actually winnable.  Give me that in November, and I'd have taken it.  Just win out at home now.

Up 9 with less than 3 minutes to go, and 98% chance to win.  98%!

I couldn't believe my eyes when the final score pop up alert came.  WTAF?

Sounds like there was plenty to bitch about but the bottom line -- This team can't close.  Recipe for disaster.

Agreed and said the same thing in an earlier post. It's like, "gotta get my spot around the 3 point line" mentality. Makes it hard for Domask who isn't a true PG, not that fast/quick.

I think there is simply no high level ballhandler/decision maker on the team. We essentially start all 2's and 3's. Then we really only play Harmon and Goode who are more of the same.
Good, to very good, and one great player but none have never had to be that guy to deal with late game ball pressure and decisions in full and halfcourt.

Maybe they need to try Moretti in spots. He has pretty decent handles and vision and PG instincts.

They'll have very little offense returning...  I can see Hansberry, Johnson, Rodgers and a couple veteran transfers starting with Goode and Harris coming off the bench.

Although Underwood hyped him up early in the season, I'm expecting very little from DGL next year.

Moretti can at least alleviate some pressure from Domask, as well as Rodgers, but he has to be able to stay on the court.

DGL unfortunately is simply a stop gap until Fears arrives....hate to say it but that might be the first casualty for us, and Dain may not be far behind. If you think this transfer class was something, next years could be monumental.
