Liberty, Leonard, Richmond, Head (Crandall), Hawkins. Obviously, a couple of those guys weren’t terrible, but they came nowhere close to living up to their billing. Head was easily the worst production wise.
Who ya got?
Alex Legion captains the 2nd team.

Darius Paul. Jamar Smith

Solid choices. Especially Jamar.
-
Darius was with the team two times and I don’t think he even got into a game, did he? Spent like 3 years with the program lol

And got tackled by a female security guard
-
News along these lines, disappointment that is:
Adam Miller was not granted waiver to play for ASU this year. He will sit
-
Part of me wants to put Curbelo. After his freshman year he was the next big thing
Crandall Head, Richmond, Curbelo,
Wasn't Aaron Cosby suppose to be a 3 point specialist? Or was it Starks? Neither of them were great from 3 though
-
Don't forget Billy Morris. That was the beginning of the end for Harv.

Yes this. He got some really bad advice from his mom and circle of people. Now his hope for the NBA is pretty much over. His mom ruined his career.

Same with Alan Griffin. Listened to his mom and went to Syracuse instead of listening to his dad, a NBA assistant coach.
Also just found out his 2 year old son died this year. That's rough, hope he's holding up ok

He had some extremely different circumstances though. He almost had to leave. I heard there was some female problems and possible legal ones. I could be wrong though. Maybe some others have more insight. Miller just left because his mom wanted him to be a star and ruined it for absolutely no reason.

I'm sure everyone here will disagree with me on this, but I don't think Hawkins deserves to be on this list. I know Meyers Leonard doesn't.
Hawkins was a 3* recruit, 167th overall, 38th at his position. He's a frustrating player, but it's not because he hasn't lived up to that 3*/top-200 recruit "billing" - it's because it's clear watching him that his ceiling is far higher than that and that if he could ever put the mental part of his game together he could be an all conference guy and an NBA pick. I can't hold against a guy that he didn't far outplay his "billing" just because I think he has that potential, though - we've gotten more out of Hawkins than I think we could've reasonably expected when we got him onboard.
Meyers Leonard averaged 13.6ppg and 8.2rpg as a true sophomore, and then left because he was a lottery pick.

I had forgotten about him. Yes, started Harv's end for coaching the Illini.
-
gotta agree about hawkins, a middling 3 star recruit with some nba chatter about him by his 4th year isn't exactly disappointing
our fans expectations of him are way too high. He's a pretty good college player. I mean he's started for like 4 years now for a pretty big time program. If he's the best player on your team you got problems though that's for sure.
-
Big surprise is we had Myke Henry who went to the NBA. Who missed that one
-
I'm not so sure it's the Moms, but other people talking to Mom.
And I agree about Hawkins. But I think his play could be improved with coaching some of the bad 3s and bad fouls out of his game.
-
Agree Hawkins does not belong on the team, and Leonard certainly doesn't.
-
A few I haven’t seen mentioned:
Bryant Notree should be on the list. We took unsung Kevin Turner as his package deal and he ended up being a way better college basketball player.
Ryan Blackwell was super hyped coming in, did little and transferred to Cuse.
Lowell Hamilton had a solid career but never lived up to his billing.
Aaron Spears was #86 RSCI and never did shit here and left for SJU and was just a guy there
Who was the fucking football player Weber signed on the heels of our Final 4 appearance? Charles Jackson? Think he belongs here just for the absurdity of the whole thing.

He also had Walter Young on the team. I think that was before the F4 tho

Yep. That's right.

How can I forget someone I never knew existed?
-
Weber was stoked about Charles Jackson. As were IB posters.
-
I can’t put Lowell Hamilton on the list, he was a starter on the ‘89 team. I will go to Justin Fields lengths to apologize for Lowell Hamilton.
-
Alvin O'Neal
-
Has no one mentioned Skyy Clark yet?
For the Bruce era, every other post-ish player we signed: Semrau, Stan Simpson, Carlwell.
-
I don't think I could've listed Skyy, because what I expect out of an incoming freshman has completely changed in the portal/NIL era.
-
Mike Shaw. Showed up here and did nothing, and transferred to Bradley and sucked there too.
-
Richmond, Adam Miller and Legion were all top 40 guys who did very little at Illinois.
-
Weber loved signing guys who peaked early. That was the fans’ fault tho

Miller had a fairly good freshmen season really. He started and was a decent role player on a team with two AAs and several established veterans.
If he had stayed one would have expected him to become a key player for us.
Mom and the handlers thought otherwise.

Especially one coming off an ACL injury.

Whose the one who mostly sucked here, transferred to DePaul then mostly sucked there IIRC then actually made the NBA for a couple years?

Myke Henry

Myke Henry
Yes. Thank you.

Yes. Thank you.
He was a big player in the BIG 3 tournament too that Ice Cube has a while back.
