While you’re there, maybe hit up a good bourbon and cigar lounge. It’s a fucked up state, so I don’t know if there’s actually any there though…

Broadway Dive. 101st and Broadway. Best looking bartender I ever saw gave me multiple free shots and got me good and drunk there the night the Hawks clinched against Philly. Somewhat remember getting into a cab. Woke up next morning in my hotel room with the bed still made and my shoes on. Awesome night.

Stay. Forever if you can. New York is amazing.

Visit McSorely’s oldest ale house in NYC. If it hasn’t changed (and I doubt it has) only choices of beer are light and dark.

Also, the White Horse Tavern. One of my “happy places.” NYC’s 2nd oldest tavern IIRC. Dylan Thomas and other writers used to hang out there.

And of course, Central Park. I’ve always said that if NYC only had Central Park it would still be worth visiting.

Just walk Manhattan and enjoy the views. Seems like at least every other block there’s an “Oh shit, there’s (fill in the blank),” moment.

Go to Times Square. Sit on the steps. Good people watching.

I enjoy the view from the Empire State observational deck. Incredible view of Broadway and Central Park. Go just before it gets dark so you can take in both day and night views.

I know a girl named Maria who used to live in Brooklyn (since moved to Florida). I “picked her up” from work in Midtown, and she showed me at least 7-8 cool spots across Manhattan that night. Got back to my hotel room at the 30/30 Hotel about 4:30 in the morning. We banged until about 7 then she went to work in the same clothes she wore the day before.  One of the best nights of my life.

This place is pretty cool. If you find me I’ll buy you a Scotch.

Did you see any surviving Ramones? Or any dead ones?

You may want to stay out of Brooklyn. Anti Jew/Israel protests scheduled.

Thanks for all the suggestions Tempo. Will try and squeeze some in today. Staying in downtown Brooklyn (her brother is an oral surgeon here and we are visiting) so will def try and avoid protests. Not Jewish, so that might help.

How was the rest of your trip? What did you do?

Mostly a fuckload of walking and trying different foods and booze. Walked just shy of 15 miles Thursday. Did the 9/11 thing with the memory pools and new tower. Katz deli. Greenwich Village and Lower East Side bar hopping. Thing I enjoyed the most was going to Minetta Tavern followed by a trip to the Comedy Cellar.

I think the place in general is a fucking nightmare and don’t want to go back. But we made the most of it.

I had other people with me so wasn’t able to get to all the places Tempo suggested. City def seems different (not in a good way) post 2020 and I wasn’t a huge fan before then. There’s something about the energy of it that people love or hate. I don’t mind big cities, but NY is different.

Glad you had fun (I guess you had fun?). I love New York. If money allowed me to, I would live there.
