I am not opposed to drafting Williams or Maye (while keeping Fields) and having an open competition in camp next year. Especially if a 4th or so is the best you’d get for Fields (I don’t pretend know what he’d fetch). If you can get a 1st or 2nd, that’s justifiable. In before PAMan mocks the idea of getting a 1st or 2nd (it’s a hypothetical).
-
I suppose my best guess would be a 3rd, but who knows.

I suppose my best guess would be a 3rd, but who knows.
In another thread I said if I’m the GM and you can get a 3rd rounder, he’s gone…
-
Was just reminded that Justin Fields was ranked in the top 100 players in the NFL by NFL players ahead of Trevor Lawrence
-
No one said NFL players were smart
Good one. They certainly don’t know anything about football. Kinda like women.

I really want to delete this thread.

No you don’t.

Yeah, he does.

Aren’t you a free speech absolutist? Seems you have a conundrum.

Way to elevate the discussion. Can always count on you.

Seriously though Tempo, was this thread necessary?! There’s 20 other this could’ve been put in. I even stated above discussing this issue in another one you could’ve addressed there…
-
Lol I seriously don’t get the sensitivity to creating a new thread. I don’t understand why people get so worked up about it. Are we that OCD?
Truthfully though, I started a new thread because I knew I could troll you guys. But this is the harmless kind of trolling, there’s no one specific target. Not aimed at anyone in particular. It’s just a general light-hearted troll. Because…you guys ASKED for it…a new Justin Fields thread!

You are targeting everyone else here.

You are targeting everyone else here.
But no one in particular.
-
There are 50 fucking general Bears threads in the first 5 pages of this sub forum. Nine of those are specifically about Justin Fields. And almost all have been started by either Tempo or his mults.
That doesn’t include the ones he’s randomly started—completely off-topic—in other forums that have been deleted or merged.
A redundant thread here and there is no big deal, but when we have literally dozens of redundant threads in which the exact same conversations are being rehashed, it gets tiresome.
I think it makes for better, more focused conversation when there aren’t 50 fuckin threads meandering about. And it’s a hell of a lot less annoying. I’d much rather revive an old on-topic thread than make new ones.
But that’s just my opinion, man.
-
From now on put all your Justin Fields thoughts here…
-
See, wouldn’t it have been nice if all the previous epic Justin Fields thoughts were in one thread for easy reference?
-
I prefer a challenge. Also opens up the door for hilariously misplaced posts.
-
Dear Abby,
I sent a letter a couple of days ago. Do you have any suggestions ?
Please hurry.
Thanks,
A loyal reader

But no one in particular.
There are only 8 people here, so, yes, you are targeting particular people.

JFC stop being a baby.

Insults aimed at specific people? Entirely ok! A light-hearted troll of no one in particular? OMG so out of line!

Just another day ending in "y" pointing out the ridiculousness of your arguments.

No one said it was out of line. Just that the premise of your argument is ridiculous.

You posted multiple times how how uncouth it is that I would troll others (no one in particular) with a new thread. Sounds pretty whiny to me. Especially considering the extensive amount of person to person trolling that you do.

The fact that it is another Fields thread did not bother me. You said you were not trolling anyone in particular. I found that statement to be wholly sanctimonious and disingenuous on your part. You knew exactly who you are trolling: all 8 people who are here.

Mark Grote reported he saw Justin Fields texting with his right thumb, and the swelling is down. Lol

Looks like Tempo and his mults were hectoring poor old Rick Morrissey over his column wanting to see Bagent play...
https://chicago.suntimes.com/bears/2023/10/18/23922779/bears-rookie-tyson-bagent-minding-his-business-creates-massive-debate-justin-fields-mitch-trubisky
But the current situation has revealed that, although many Bears fans want to see what the backup can do, plenty of others are so emotionally invested in the idea of Fields being great someday that their vision is clouded.
***
The first hint that something unusual was at work was the reaction to the Sun-Times’ back page on Monday, the day after Bagent filled in for Fields, who had dislocated his thumb during the Bears’ loss to the Vikings.
***
As of Wednesday, that back page had been viewed 1.7 million times on X (formerly Twitter). You would have thought the headline had been “Children are what’s wrong with America.’’
Some fans don’t want to hear that Fields isn’t the quarterback the Bears thought he was going to be when they took him with the 11th pick in the 2021 draft. They want to believe that the athleticism that makes him such a dangerous runner will eventually help him become a good passer. When they realize that that line of thinking doesn’t hold up in the NFL, they blame poor blocking and poor coaching. If it feels like Mitch Trubisky all over again, it’s because it is.
But they also blame me, the Sun-Times, the media and, perhaps given enough time, the written word.
***
Racism — Any suggestion that Fields, who is African American, should be benched in favor of Bagent, who is white, smacks of bigotry, more than a few readers stated.
“Flat out racist’’ one oft-retweeted post read.
If I had treated the white Trubisky better during his four disappointing years with the Bears than I’ve treated Fields during his two-plus years, maybe this charge would have merit. But I was much more critical of Trubisky than I have been of Fields. Eight games into Trubisky’s third season, I wrote that the Bears should start Chase Daniel ahead of him. It took me six games into Fields’ third season to call for a Bagent start.
By the way, Trubisky’s passer rating in Chicago was 87.2. Fields’ is 82.3.
It never occurred to me that Monday’s back page would get 1.7 million views. This does occur to me: There won’t be a little something extra in my paycheck this week because of it.
A vendetta against the Bears — In this rendering, I have it out for the Bears. I have it out for the Bears only as much as I have it out for an inept franchise that can’t find a quarterback, can’t hire people who know how to win and can’t get to the playoffs more than six times in the past 28 years.
***
Too soon — When will it be long enough to come to the conclusion that Fields can’t play? After this season? After five seasons? Some Bears fans still believe Trubisky will be good, given the chance. They also believe that Jay Cutler was great. The bar is so low after what the Bears have offered them for decades that they can’t see the truth.
You’re old — This one hurts. But to answer the charge: Possibly.

I’m not 100% sure he’s a great quarterback, but I’m 100% sure he’s in a terrible situation.
-
The Center can’t even snap the ball consistently and went viral today for “blocking” his RG. And he’s supposed to be “the good Center.”
-
Not fixing the Center position. Add that to Poles’ fuck up list.
-
I probably haven’t read or even noticed a Rick Morrisey column in 20 years.

This is one of the most glorious posts this fair forum has ever witnessed.
-
The fact that Morrisey advocated for starting Daniel over Mitch tells you all you need to know. His opinion is worthless. Mitch at least had upside that Daniel did not. Start Bagent. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
-
Pooping on the Chicago Bears? Those articles write themselves. Hope Morrisey is enjoying semi-retirement.

The simple fact is both Mitch and Fields suck, ergo the desire for a new QB.

You can break up with your current girlfriend in the hopes a Victoria’s Secret Model comes along and shows interest in you but probably ain’t happening. Chase Daniel was a 14 year back up for a reason.

That is how bad Mitch and Fields are, sorry your heroes suck.
Analogizing the situation with Mitch to a Victoria Secret model is like Spark comparing Mahomes to Mitch. Please mock yourself relentlessly for this analogy.

If you are not trolling us, comparing a guy who has been playing for almost 2.5 years with a guy in his first year and his first game, you are a bigger dope than anyone here has ever imagined.
