Almost as bad? Trump is the president and yet the US of A is still where the socialist country runaways want to be. Let that sink in. 

Using the word socialist might be a loser in the near term, but framing things from an extreme perspective is often used as a long-term strategy. By doing this you make a slightly more moderate position more appealing.

“Defund Ice!” - “You know, seems like this whole ICE thing might be going a bit too far.”

“Democratic Socialist!” - “I agree with some of the platform, but maybe a “progressive” like Ro Khanna or Elizabeth Warren is a good compromise.”

Until eventually the word socialism doesn’t even evoke any strong emotion.

So basically normalize a shitty way to run a country that ends in a shattered economy, millions of lives lost, and mass migration

When a word or concept carries too many meanings—or is widely perceived to—it is a warning sign.  Confusion follows, along with wasted time spent explaining it.  As the saying goes, “If you’re explaining, you’re losing.”

I think many far-left voters and organizations underestimate how toxic the term “socialist” is to many people—especially in Florida and Texas, where generations of immigrants experienced authoritarian governments that used some version of that term.  Cold War associations in popular culture only deepen that reaction.

Trying to explain that “Democratic Socialist” means something different will not persuade many people in the middle (or swing voters).  They simply cannot see past the label or the messaging attached to it.  It’s time for a rebrand. 

There’s no good reason to use the term socialist in any form, given the historically negative connotations.  Call yourself a “progressive,” or “economic fairness advocate” or create a new term and keep the focus on the policies and programs you support.  Do not recycle a label that is so toxic to so many people—and that is not especially useful today.

So when is MN going to start taking an interest in the staggering amount of fraud and corruption originating from the oval office?

The mechanism, the people behind it, the trade itself, etc are all part of the story of slavery. Those things are far from binary. It’s important to know more about slavery as an institution beyond just the fact that it happened.

You might be surprised to learn that it’s much less of a white-driven institution than we’ve been led to believe. Lot of complicit parties who deserve a share of the blame.
