The Deuce / Re: wtf is wrong with the right?

I think Democrats want people to step back, calm down, and take a reasonable approach.

The fact check org article I linked is tedious, but takes a hard look at where the various numbers come from.

The other article is more readable and deals with the extremist rhetoric the right uses to scare people.

Democrats wanted a complete reversal of Trump’s southern border rhetoric and policy. Biden made a great show of welcoming waves of immigrants on the campaign trail and then essentially threw the door open for most of his 4 years to appease the leftist groups Trump offended and the “borders are racist” folks.

It was reckless and cost them a sweep in 2024, not calm and reasonable.

Not sure anyone knows the real number and politicians as you know will spin stats however they can to get people riled up. Even if it’s only 3-4 million that’s still a silly number.

And drugs should actually be legalized, taxed, and regulated btw. I’d think you’d agree since you lean Libertarian (the real party of rainbows and unicorns!), no?

Yeah that worked great in Portland!

I have said several times before that Libertarianism would be ideal for a more evolved society that has more personal accountability. We aren’t anywhere close to that. We are actually been moving away from personal accountability in recent decades with all the people playing the victim card at every turn and the people who perpetually feel sorry for them. Aka the base of the modern Democrat party

The BBC article covers some of the problems.

I read it. It reads more like fear porn of ifs and coulds than any real in depth assessment.

No surprise, “moderate.”

Which of those measures are bad, and why?

6 of President Trump's problematic EOs

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cqld6wnv1rgo

1. Drug Cartels are  'foreign terrorist organizations'

2. withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.

3. Declaring that certain unlawful migrants and temporary residents are not subject to our jurisdiction; therefore their children born here are not birthright citizens.

4. withdrawal from WHO

5. Gulf of Mexico now the Gulf of  Trump America

6. Only two sexes,  M & F. Gender no longer used.

I don’t see the problem

I assert that generally, the base is against any form of immigration and is thus against H1Bs. It's not just Bannon. The only acolytes in favor of H1B are Musk and Ramiswamy (already voted off the island). Eventually when the grassroots - whom Trump does listen to - tire of Musk, he gone.

It’s silly to assume the base is anti-immigration. The base wants a relatively secure border and a better process. You can’t even get into Canada if you’ve had a DUI in the past 10 years but we’ll let all kinds of people just wade on in and let them loose. It’s insanity.

As far as the H1B1’s go, tech and finance jobs are usually pretty decent and tons of tech and finance workers have been laid off recently. I don’t have a problem with protecting the people who are already here by not going crazy with bringing in foreigners to do the work cheaper when these companies can afford to pay domestic workers.

He’s not worried about saving individuals—he is saving the entire species.

Wonder if those are the same type of communists as Rage Against the Machine that used the evil capitalist system to get filthy rich and stay that way

Asians are criminally discriminated against, yet they succeed. So what the fuck is the matter with all these white people who fail? Why are the Asians able to overcome, yet these white fuckers can't? Maybe it's not because of DEI, maybe they just aren't very good.

Seems to be your argument here.

Not sure when I’ve ever expressed any specific concern over DEI causing white people to fail. I am firmly against systemic discrimination on the basis of race or sex. I don’t give a shit how good the intentions are, it’s bullshit policy that directly goes against what it’s purported to solve.

If we want to solve for equality of opportunity (and we should) then maybe our system should address it much sooner than during the professional hiring process. Otherwise you’re just treating the symptom whilst leaving the disease to fester.

Need a ruling from Tempo. Maybe he knows Tom Thayer?

Tom Thayer is gayer than cum on a mustache.

Yes, I know it’s hard for simpletons to wrap their minds around, but just because white people have privilege doesn’t mean that all white people are prosperous.

I know it’s hard for simpletons to contemplate there might be other reasons black people disproportionately struggle in the US other than systemic racism and white privilege. Somehow, Asians, (non-white) succeed at the highest level despite being criminally discriminated against in favor of other POC!

But digging any deeper than that requires something more than a simple rubber stamp subscription to surface level sociology pushed by ideologically captured academics.
