This is a hilarious take. I hope it’s trolling. The only reason “keeping a defense off the field” matters is if you are in a still competitive game, you have a defense that could potentially make a stop because they aren’t too gassed in the 4th quarter. “Had to keep the defense off the field or might have lost by 50!”

I’m guessing both coaches want the game over at that point, but I would prioritize getting in much needed reps for my passing game than shortening a humiliating ass whipping. I guess it’s entirely possible Flus has a different view.

The only thing that matters at this point is finding out if Fields can play. If I’m the HC I’d want to exhaust every possible scenario in which he could succeed. I wouldn’t be running the ball to shorten my humiliating ass whipping.

Anyone with half a brain wants the clock running as much as possible in 2H.

Seems like the coaches understand that having Fields out there slinging it all second half in garbage time might devalue him even more.
