And would you make the trade if you were the GM?

I get wanting Fields to run less. If the offense is moving chains and scoring points, call whatever you want. But if the offense is struggling, you have to adapt, and maybe get Fields on the run a bit. I don’t know Xs and Os well enough to be a coordinator, but play-calling theory and philosophy doesn’t take a genius. Run more of what works, and less of what doesn’t.

Again, I thought it odd to look at a one game sample. A game in which the game plan included lots of screens and no designed runs. Your post sounded more like a rant than analysis. But hey, I’m with you. It was bad.

I'm talking on a message board, with a few other people. I'm not looking for approval for what I post. I don't give a fuck about what grade you give me for what I say.

Not unless you gave me 2-3 games to see what Purdy as a Bear looks like. Keep in mind, he’d have Getsy, Chase Claypool, Lucas Patrick, and Nate Davis to work with. Not Shanahan, McCaferry, Debo, Kittle, and Aiyuk. And their all world LT whose name I can’t remember at the moment.

Hmmm. I agree that football isn't rocket science. And honestly, these teams pretty much run the same shit. Better defenses are what make a difference.

So, if they run offense, and none of it is working, then what? If they stack the box to stop the run (and him, effectively, from running), and Justin can't get the ball out for whatever reason, what do you do? Run more of what works and less of what doesn't. What if nothing works?

Honestly, on the first play of the game, I would run a fucking go. Just send everyone to the end zone and let him air it out. It won't work, but those safetys will see that the ball got aired out, and they might not be as quick to fly to the line.

I can’t say I disagree with any of that. I’d love to see the Bears come out and throw a couple DEEP balls early in a game to loosen things up. Fields (especially at this point in his career) needs space to work. He and this offense aren’t where they need to be on technical/timing shit like screens. Half the linemen missed camp, and Claypool’s head seems to be in the clouds. A smart OC would maybe understand this.

As Collinsworth said, every team should throw the ball deep at least once a quarter. While there were some down the field opportunities I’m sure Fields missed, we didn’t see one true “deep ball” that I recall. It was a very John Shoop game.

Throw the ball deep, you not only loosen up the defense, you could get a PI if it falls incomplete. Inexcusable not to be taking shots in todays NFL. And inexcusable to only target DJ Moore twice.

Well for one, you took a one game sample size and focused on that. A game in which Getsy did not fully utilize Fields’ greatest asset. His legs. When I say upside, I mean long-term. Not a single game.

Long term. Funny stuff, Tempo.

This is hilarious. Did you even watch the game? You may have had it on, but did you watch it?

Getsy can press the X button and make the gutless QB throw the ball downfield.
