I thought this stuff was old news. Definitely the “dating his sister in law” stuff was old. Nobody cared about it during the election though, because you can’t make a conspiracy theory out of it.

Powerful capitalist pig, with a long history of collective bargaining resistance, working overtime to stifle a unionization vote.

Shitty, but predictable.

Of course. The same reason Republicans oppose mail-in voting.  I bet already established unions would oppose mail-in  ballots  for Union officers.

indeed, then there's this fakery
http://diversity411.com/diversity-in-the-workplace/diversity-at-amazon/

Quote
In a rapidly shifting political climate, Jeff Bezos wants Amazon employees to know the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion remains unchanged.

The CEO sent a reassuring letter to company leaders on Sunday, in response to an inquiry from a manager and minority advocate anxious over last Tuesday’s election of Donald Trump, following a xenophobic campaign and concerning policies.

“The US has just concluded two years of the most divisive presidential campaigning many of us can remember with an unexpected result,” senior vendor manager Anthony Little wrote to Bezos. “The groups represented by our memberships were undeservingly pulled into the spotlight, and as such many of us feel deeply affected by the outcome.”

Little went on to ask Bezos if he’d weigh in with a reassuring “nonpartisan message” that might shore up the company’s minority groups, which includes the Black Employee Network, Glamazon (an LGBTQ group) and a Latino-centric group.

Bezos was more than happy to oblige.

“Thank you very much for your heartfelt email,” he responded. “Diversity at Amazon has always been, and always will be, committed to equal rights, tolerance and diversity. And we firmly reject, and have zero tolerance for, harassment of any kind.”

He added that a commitment to diversity at Amazon is not only good for the company; on a more elemental level, it’s just deeply and fundamentally right.

“We’re a company of builders whose diverse backgrounds, ideas, and points of view are critical to helping us invent on behalf of all our customers,” Bezos wrote. “But it’s not only that diversity and inclusion are good for our business. It’s more fundamental than that — it’s simply right.”

“These are enduring values for us,” he concluded, “and nothing will change that.”

Why is this evil penis head so allegedly loving of diversity?  Oh right, because of this...

Quote
Shades of Big Brother are looming over Whole Foods, once thought to be a pioneer of healthy workplace culture. According to internal documents seen by Business Insider, the Amazon-owned supermarket chain has been using an interactive heat map to monitor its 510 locations across the U.S. and assign each store a unionization risk score based on such criteria as employee loyalty, turnover rate and racial diversity.

Whole Foods employs roughly 95,000 people nationwide. Data collected in the heat map suggest that stores with low racial and ethnic diversity, especially those located in poor communities, are more likely to unionize.

I think companies should just take care enough of their employees so they don’t feel the need to unionize.

My fingers are too numb from ice fishing to goggle it but I was always under the impression Amazon compensated well compared to peers for jobs requiring similar skills.

If that’s true I don’t think unionizing is a good idea because any incremental gains will probably just end up going to the unions rather than the workers.

If that’s not true and Bezos isn’t compensating fairly and won’t negotiate then fuck Bezos and unionize. I don’t agree that he should overpay for labor just because his company is making money hand over fist because it won’t last forever. Bezos himself has said he fully expects Amazon to inevitably fail.

With the labor market being the way it is and thinking about where Amazon has positioned their facilities, I imagine Amazon could replace a very large percentage of their employees very quickly.

But a strike would definitely fuck them up big time because timeliness is such a cornerstone of the business.

Fish weren’t biting today but did catch some ice and a buzz and it was nice to listen to and tell some stories in the process.

Unions operate best as a tool of fear to prevent exploitation more than anything. Amazon currently has an effective monopoly (omitting a long legal/economic discussion). One of the few things that threatens that status is a workforce that can go on strike and shut the company down. They could fire everybody much easier than, say, an auto plant, but the lag and resulting customer service learning curve opens a door for competing middlemen online retailers.

https://www.foxnews.com/great-outdoors/oklahoma-rep-backlash-bigfoot-hunting-season

This representative managed a rare feat -- pissing off people on both sides at the same time (Bigfoot community believers & deniers). I'd say it was a publicity stunt, but the election is over for now. Good to know elected officials in other states are also prioritizing the big problems their constituents face. That aside, the proposed bill serves no real purpose -- not exactly a first for politics -- regardless of whether one is a Bigfoot believer or denier. Even without the such a permit, is there a hunter (armed with a rifle) who *wouldn't* shoot if he/she had a close encounter with Bigfoot? The notoriety, possible fortune, collecting evidence for the scientific community, likelihood of being in fear for safety/life, etc., all suggest to me shooting Bigfoot would happen if such a close encounter took place. And I doubt a hunting license would be revoked under such circumstances.

I wonder if the Oklahoma representative is related to the person in this case:
