Bought some Lorna doone cookies. Cost 7 dollars. Frozen pizza is 9 bucks.

9 bucks and permanent damage to your taste buds. Pizza is goddamn flour/yeast/water, tomato sauce, spices, cheese, toppings - to reiterate PAMan's comment on being good grocery shoppers.

I can say with confidence that you guys are not good grocery shoppers.

I’d put my skills up against anyone here. I have 3 stores in the regular rotation and three others in reserve. I’m in a grocery store at least 3x a week.

Sounds like a few of you need help stretching your food dollars.  Or perhaps you live in a food desert.

I’m so old I remember my grandparents telling me stories about their backyard “victory garden” and root cellar where they stored items like potatoes and jars of canned food.

To hell with those BIG GROCERY MONOPOLIES and their high priced, heavily packaged and nutrition deficient food.  Fight the power!  Grow your own or join the neighborhood community garden to put food on the table.

To help you get started, here are step-by-step instructions for building a coop to raise chickens in your back yard.

Agreed. They are probably buying lettuce at the store now instead of just growing it in the garden, with the rain growing conditions are perfect.

Nobody can have gardens in you and Alum’s centralized communities you fucking Commies!

Name an item, and I will tell you the best place in Chicagoland to buy that item.

Also, whoever designs bags for Aldi should be in charge of national cyber-security, because you can’t get shit into an Aldi bag.

Get a lot of the basics at Aldi, or Costco when I need a bunch of something. Both stores carry a fair amount of relatively healthy snack items for the kids.

I probably wouldn’t have a Costco membership if my company didn’t have some relationship with them where I get the executive membership for half price. I recently bought a new TV for the primary living space and the cash back alone almost paid for the membership for the year, plus I got the extra 3 year warranty and an upgraded backlit remote I wouldn’t have gotten had I purchased it anywhere else. And sometimes I just wanna go in there and slay a beef hot dog and drink for $1.50 while I look around. But it’s not my favorite place. I did get a same day grocery delivery from them the other day as I was in a pinch for time and their location is out of the way for me. I got a big container of Orgain, two huge bags of frozen wild blueberries and strawberries, a bunch of bananas (to make smoothies) and a couple other odds and ins delivered to my doorstep within 2 hours for $65 out the door.

I prefer to get meat from local farmers or the local old school butcher shop. I like to grow veggies in the summer months. Per Murph’s comment I’ve found lettuce doesn’t keep well, so I have to buy it from somewhere in the winter. Usually from the pizza place down the road that has an awesome salad bar and cheap beer.

I had a Costco membership but let it expire. I bought it mostly because I thought they had good deals on tires, but when I went to get tires they were pretty expensive. They have some really good deals and whatnot there, but you end up overspending in the end. But you’ll get a great deal on a 5 lb container of cinnamon.

Their alcohol prices are outstanding. They also have the most expensive milk prices in the city. Like, higher than buying a gallon of milk at the gas station high. And we go through a lot of milk.

I could be wrong, but I feel like their business model is to price some things really consistently low to get people in the door, then have sneaky high prices on a bunch of other staples that people will throw in the cart without even looking at the price, assuming that they will also be priced low. Then you go to check out and you’ve spent $465. But then you get that few hundred back at the end of the year from the 2% you got back from buying a ton of shit you didn’t need in the first place and get sucked back in again.

Exactly. Which is why I mentioned “a great deal on 5 lbs of cinnamon.”

Apparently the item you buy a lot of is gasoline.
