No one ever said he was a man of the people. But he wanted to get Illinois' financial affairs in order to the dismay of the Dem criminal cabal (as they are literally criminals) who were in charge at the time. And now he was replaced by another criminal, who committed tax and mail fraud, read the report, who has been bailed out by federal funds.
Rauner (and his fat cat buddies Ken Griffin and Richard Uihlein) had just one goal in mind: bust the labor unions, particularly the public sector ones. If it meant not paying the state bills, letting infrastructure rot, slashing social services and gutting higher-ed, so be it. No wonder he lost the next election so badly for an incumbent.

Rauner was a putz compared to Jim Edgar, Judy Baar Topinka, Jim Ryan and even George Ryan. They played the long game, knew how to build coalitions and recruited competent people to run their operations and agencies. Rauner surrounded himself with sycophants and flatterers.
Rauner talked a big game. Loved his phony flannel shirts, cowboy boots and motorcycle vests. He turned out to be just another rich, pompous dipshit who couldn’t govern his way out of a paper bag.
