40% of US corn production is used for ethanol. We aren't in a dearth of fertile land - especially when you consider the amount of food waste in this country, a fact you are presumably well aware of.

Snow in May in low humidity Tahoe area will evaporate before it hits any water table.

For someone who hates the government you seem to be blissfully unaware that the golf courses will get their allocation before you do. And they're behind agriculture.

The best part of these restrictions is that they don't set some sort of "cap", nobody can use more than X gallons. What they do is say that everyone must reduce consumption by X%. So the guy with the big lawn can easily cut his consumption, the people not using anything for landscaping have to find places to cut. It's quite silly.

Over time the salt builds up in the pipes and clogs them. Ask me about the guy who sold me his house and was running the output of the water softener into the main.

And it's not particularly available in Reno
