The Downtown Council is trying to revitalize downtown. Safety concerns and reduced foot traffic forced their hand. They're going to focus on the return to work crowd and try to get them to stay downtown for whatever.

I've served on planning committees for downtown events.  Safety is always a priority, but producing a big outdoor event has other challenges like setup, infrastructure, and funding to build a temporary venue.  It's also important to have multiple partners and an extensive volunteer network.

The downtown business group doesn't want to produce AND promote these two large events primarily by itself.  The group wants to find partnering organizations.  Maybe they will, maybe they won't.  Meanwhile they are smart to look at a series of smaller events that take place throughout the winter months. 

I hope they succeed.

The Aquatennial originated 85 years ago to showcase The City of Lakes in the summer. I think they've probably figured out a thing or two about the challenges of running the event. They have little control over the safety concerns that people may have with respect to crime in Minneapolis.

The Holidazzle is the newbie. It's only been around for close to 35 years. Downtown was all lit up for Christmas, stores had their window fronts decorated and people shopped the stores and lined the streets for the Christmas parades.

Went to Minneapolis when the kids were little and went to some hotel with a waterpark near the Mall of America.

My sis lives there and yeah I didn't get to see any of the somalian neighborhoods during my travels there, but apparantely they are a problem.  Probably like any city in the US there's good parts and really shitty parts.

Is it margarita mix or MD20/20? That's probably where the confusion lies.

When I was like 19, I snuck MD into some pepsi cans to watch 4th of July fireworks. That's the last time I drank it. I'll just leave it at that.

I saw some MD branded drinks at a liquor store the other day in San Diego. I think they were going after the Buzz Ball type segment, and I’m 100% sure they are terrible.

I don't know if this is still a thing, but in Decatur (ugh, fuck), there's a convenience store that sells "purple drink." It's basically grape kool aid in a gallon milk jug spiked with god knows what kind of foul liquor. You can get a gallon of this poison for like $1.50. Although thanks to the radical left and inflation, it's probably like 2 dollars now.

About 15 years ago I was on some island in the Carribbean, it was the last day there and I was walking down this trail from the resort buildings to the spa center. Thought a nice massage prior to flying back to the states sounded nice. Anyways, some fella had a little stand set up along the trail and was selling piña coladas in freshly halved coconuts to passersby. I also thought one of these drinks sounded nice. Turns out the bathtub rum or whatever the hell liquor he was putting in these things was like gasoline, I got terrible heartburn and ended up puking my guts out before I even got to my massage appointment. To this day I can’t stand even the smell of piña colada anything. Those MD drinks were piña colada flavored, and I assume the rum/liquor was of similar quality to that experience years ago, so it was a hard pass for me.

I did get a few bombers of Pliny the Elder and a jalapeño IPA which were really good.

Haha, we went on a Bahamas cruise with my dipshit BIL and his wife. When we got there, we went to the beach, and these dudes had a stand set up. For 20 dollars you could drink as much as you wanted. And yes, they had it all set up in the coconuts, rum, punch mixers, etc.

Well, my son and SIL proceed to take advantage of this deal and drink their 20 dollars worth, and probably then some. As we're headed back to the boat, my SIL (lightweight pussy) proceeds to puke out the window of the shitty taxi van we're riding back in.

When we got there, the driver was acting all kinds of pissed off, and bitching at me. I was like idk, he got sick. Probably because you're a shitty driver lol. Then I said let's go everyone.

This asshole then starts screaming and talking about calling the cops. I was like, dude, fucking relax. He had a bit too much to drink and got a little sick. He was like, I'm gonna have you thrown in jail blah blah. You need to pay to clean my car.

I was like fuck. Fine. How much do you need. Dude says 5 dollars. I laughed and said yeah? 5 dollars. Damn. That's pretty steep.

I gave him 5 dollars and we walked off. Then we went to Senor Frogs and my SIL puked there too. I was like fuck, man.

We got back on the boat and he slept it off.
