It’s hard to see/read but this is the grave of Paul Ricca (born Felice Delucia) best I can tell. He’s buried in the basement of the large building at Queen of Heaven. Ricca and Accardo were co-bosses for several decades. Both semi-retired though. Even though Accardo seems a bit more lengedary, Ricca seemed to have a bit more power when they ruled together at least. It seems Accardo “retired” when Ricca convinced him to take a demotion in favor of Ricca protege Sam Giancana. Accardo was apparently not pleased, but accepted it. The outfit was never more prosperous and powerful than it was under Ricca and Accardo.

Actually that one is Ricca’s wife. Didn’t notice until I zoomed in

Sam “Mad Sam” DeStefano. Hitman and loan shark for the Chicago Outfit. Brutal gangster who was said to be a legitimate psychopath. Allegedly murdered by previously mentioned Tony Spilotro because the Outfit was afraid DeStefano’s erratic behavior was a threat to the Outfit.

DeStefano was such a brutal and sadistic man that he gladly carried out a hit on his own brother in 1955. Some say he worshipped the devil. He was never given “made man” status  because of his erratic behavior. Then was whacked before going to trial.

Sicilian born Antonio “The Scourge” Lombardo. Consigliere to Al Capone. Gunned down at the intersection of Madison and Dearborn by the north side gang in ‘28. Apparently tried to broker a peace deal with the north side but was unsuccessful. His death would soon be avenged with the St. Valentine’s Day massacre, which consolidated Capone’s power in the city. There is a fresh flower outside his front step.

Inside Lombardo’s mausoleum. Looks fairly well kept for almost 100 years.

Not sure if Lombardo was an ancestor to future legendary mob figure, Joey “The Clown” Lombardo. I will look into it.

Joey “Doves” Auippa. Underboss to Giancana and Felix Alderisio (Milwaukee Phil). Took control of the Outfit when Alderisio went to prison in ‘69. Auippa was the top man in Chicago when the Vegas skim was in full tilt. The character Remo Gaggi in Casino was based off of Auippa. In 1986 Auippa was sentenced to 28 years in prison for the Vegas skimming racket. Auippa served 10 years, died the next year in ‘97 at Elmhurst Memorial.

The Spilotro brothers were found buried next to a field about 5 miles from property Auippa owned in Morocco, Indiana.

Felix Alderisio (AKA Milwaukee Phil). Underboss to Giancana, succeeded Giancana as boss in late 60s to early 70s. Seen slightly conflicting dates on this. You name it, Milwaukee Phil was arrested for it. Arrested 36 times. Went to prison in ‘71 I believe and died in prison at Marion Illinois at only 59. Was only boss for a couple of years, and apparently was not that popular with the “rank and file.”

Says he died in ‘71 so I’d say the ‘67-‘69 timeline as boss looks correct. Not sure who filled the void between Alderisio and Aiuppa, perhaps Accardo, who was always the final authority on “large matters.”

Joseph “Hop Toad” Giunta. I’ll let wiki give the details here.

After the murder of Unione Siciliana president Pasqualino "Patsy" Lolordo, Giunta became the new president of the Siciliana in 1929. He unsuccessfully tried to organize a revolt against Al Capone's gang.[1] As a result, according to legend, Giunta and his co-conspirators (Albert Anselmi and John Scalise) were beaten and shot to death by Capone at a party.[1] Their bodies were found the next day in Hammond, Indiana.[1]

Interestingly, Giunta’s co-conspirators appear to be the same two guys who did the hit on O’Banion in the flower shop about 5ish? Years earlier.

Wow…just found a fascinating tidbit a minute ago. I stumbled into a “Coffee with Culotta” video on YouTube. Cullota was the #2 guy in Vegas under Spilotro. They were very tight. Cullota says in the video that Mad Sam was killed by Spilotro (already knew this) and…his brother Mario. Lol

Only the mob

Vincent “The Schemer” Drucci. Born Ludovico D’Ambrosio. Member and eventual boss of the North Side gang after the murders of O’Banion and Weiss. He and Bugs Moran succeeded the aforementioned. Drucci was a major player in the bloody gang wars of the 1920s. Only mob boss to be killed by a police officer I believe. From what I’ve read, it could have been an execution, as Drucci died handcuffed in the back of a squad car.
