Podz was completely lost.

And a year later a 1st round draft pick.

The only one that was lost was Underwood.

You deserve him Nichi.  Dude is a loser idiot and you deserve the losses that come with him.

Anyone defending this bullshit that a guy can go from 5 minutes a game “completely lost”, to being a 1st round NBA pick is brain dead.

Podz goes 1st round to GS. It happens to every big program but what a colossal whiff.

kind of crazy how none of those guys got drafted at all, you'd think a guy like Tshiewebe would have a shot at least, same with Timme

the change of the game from big dominant forwards and centers to rangy guys that can chuck 3's is certainly... something...  although the last few MVP's were big guys so maybe these guys all just suck?   Idk

Sanogo apparently got picked up by the bulls

Think this is a very underrated pick up.

Couldn't be more thrilled for Podziemski.  Made a big, risky bet on himself and it paid off.  What a story.  Hope he has a ton of success there - learning under Nash and Curry should be great for him.

There's so many guys now who are 6-10+ and can be effective at the perimeter that the value of a heavier 6-9/6-10 post is just not there anymore no matter how dominant in college. You have to have Bam Adebayo's athleticism or it's off to the 2nd tier leagues.

Yup. Seems like an ideal set up for him with HOFs around him and limited pressure in his first year.

Should also be a huge selling point for schools like St Mary's poaching reserve players at big conference schools.

Yep.  Surely Podziemski isn't the only guy around who could show out if he's given the chance to shoot 15 times a game.  And realistically even if he'd stayed four years and played a ton, he was probably not going to get that at Illinois.

We've had one guy shoot as much as Podziemski did this year since 97-98 - Ayo in his All American year.

Speaking which, Tevian Jones had reportedly signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Pelicans after being the go-to scorer at Southern Utah.

One thing about NIL and the pass for transfers is everybody thought it’d hurt the small schools. It appears that they now have a path to sell kids with opportunities like what Podz and Jones got. This stuff all tends to work itself out…

Might work well for Curbelo too…

The kid shot 44% from 3 with 2.5 makes a game. He should have been out there shooting threes for us his freshman year especially during all those Underwood shooting droughts and brick fests that we've seen.

If he would've actually made the threes he got when he played he probably would've.  But he shot 23% on his attempts here.

I don't remember very many people here clamoring for Podziemski to get a bunch of minutes over Melendez, who was playing really well, in a year we won the conference on the final play of the season.  Hindsight's 20/20.

I think something that hasn't been discussed is that who knows if Podz would have ever grown as a player or even displayed any kind of inkling as far as what he did at Santa Clara if he had stayed under BU and his coaching/constant ranting style?

Not saying BU style is right or wrong...I have my thoughts on it though....but if he is rough/hard nosed/in your face all the time relentlessly, some players just don't respond. I think this is one reason he wants to get old and stay old, older mature players "know" how to handle the pressures.

Podz just picked up basketball because he thought baseball was boring and took the challenge. His interest level possibly didn't align with having to submit to a regimen like BU was expecting...he just wanted to ball in other words, which is what Santa Clara provided him.

Either way it is old news, good for the kid, hope he flourishes and Kerr is the type that can make it happen imo. Just keep Green away from him....LOL.
