My guess is far and away the #1 reason is businesses learned they can get similar production from their workforce without the huge rents. If you’ve got something other than an opinion to refute that I’m game to listen.

I NEVER SAID it was 0%. But…1% would be way too high…

“Can’t get them back?” Can’t they just say, “You need to come in?”

I also never said everyone’s rent was up, but businesses choosing to not pay rent/or greatly reducing their rent/operating costs is certainly a significant part of the equation. Larger than rioters I’m almost certain.

I think you are wrong on the last part. The articles seem to bear out the frustrations of getting people back into the office.

Companies want the workers back in the office because some bean counter is freaking out that they are paying rent for offices that are empty.

As for "crime and crappy public transportation" - not much crime in Santa Clara County, and Google, Apple, and Facebook provide private shuttles to their offices from all over the Bay Area. And those campuses are still quite empty. All three companies just built huge new campuses and are twisting themselves into knots to get employees to come use them, and employees are pushing back. To the point they are begging them to come in 3 days a week, not 5, and the employees are still sort of pissed.

The only reason anyone goes to Google is because they get free food.
