wasn't he an option after Weber was let go?
He apparently was interested/wanted the job. Was close friends with the Parker family and felt he could land Jabari. Was also reported to be a possibility.
The myth that I wanted Reggie stems from the fact that I once said something along the lines that if we were going with “an unconventional hire,” I didn’t hate it. Definitely far from my first choice.
Then the meme regained legs when I once said 3-5 years later I doubt Theus would have done much if any worse than Groce (when for some reason his name was brought up again). One or two people thought that was a hysterical take (as if it can be much worse than missing the tourney 4x in a row). Outside of a Baylor/Penn State type scandal it doesn’t get much worse than Groce.

"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.
