In 2016, the social media did little to nothing to inhibit the flow of Russian bot disinformation. For that they caught a lot of crap. In 2020, they were more careful, including approaching the Hunter lap top with caution.

NY Post pushed it aggressively. Fox and WSJ threw a little cold water on the Big Guy story.

I remember reading at the time about the fact that The Twitter was throttling the story.

I found that interesting. If it is correct in its analysis of the info dumped, it certainly undercuts the arguments posited here, and elsewhere.

Not sure I buy the argument though about Biden having someone flag the nude photos sounding more like a concerned parent, but I get the gist that the pictures violated The Twitter ToS.

This, and whatever the shitheads running The Facebook, TikTok, InstaStupid, may have done, appears to be a higher profile version of Custard banning JJ for 30 minutes because he didn't like him making a new Bear thread.

You are really giving Twitter a lot more credit than it deserves. They aren't at SBF level of generalized incompetence, but they aren't puppet masters either. I used to ride bikes with some of these guys - some great coders but not exactly a brain trust.

Everyone with gray matter should know damn well that the world's premier intelligence agency knew the laptop was real.
The FBI went to Twitter, Facebook and Google telling them about a Hunter Biden hack and leak the weeks before the 2020 election.
Oct 20, 51 former Intelligence individuals penned a letter saying everything had the hallmarks of Russian disinfo.
FBI Whistleblowers will say that they were told in Aug 2020 that the laptop was off limits and not to be discussed.
Social media companies, main stream media and 51 former Intelligence employees all got the idea that the laptop was Russian disinfo somehow some way. Gee, I wonder how.
If you want to believe that the FBI, who had the laptop for close to a year by the 2020 election, had no idea that the laptop was authentic it's your perogative.
It's still a free country.

On the surface, I guess I can see how you make that argument but, looking at that article not sure it withstands scrutiny. Was the Twitter biased? Undoubtedly. But that is its right. For better or for worse. Was it gun shy after allowong the Soviets to run amuck in 2016? Probably a little of that too. Not sure it is gun shy after allowing the Commies to throttle the Chinese internal riots by apparently flooding The Twitter with porn.

Ok. Alum's article claims the FBI etc. went to the social media companies generally warning about possible misinformation campaigns months before the laptop story. Did they later make specific claims about the laptop? I don't know. If so, they were apparently not part of this document dump.

At the end of the day, the laptop story, and The Twitter throttling the Post story, was out there. Given who is actually on The Twitter (as opposed to The Facebook, TokTik, etc.), did those people really not know about the laptop story?

The FBI meetings with Twitter etc were in the weeks before the NYP column, and court documents mention being told of a hack and leak and Hunter Biden.
The FBI had the laptop in Dec 2019.
Did surveillance of Giuliani's emails let the FBI know about when the laptop story would be released ?

So .. this story was published ... in the NEW YORK POST. That's a pretty big outlet.

What the hell did we do back in oh say, 2004. Stories were printed in the New York Post but they were suppressed because the secret elite cabal kept it from being shared on Twitter, which didn't exist!

And if everyone who is on Twitter is an elite liberal scumbag who doesn't believe in the REAL LAPTOP or doesn't care, then exactly what did this SUPPRESSION cause, given that all of the people on Twitter are biased and would just ignore the story they were seeing in their twitter feeds?

What's really great about this is when you see Jordan Klepper ask these people about it at the rallies and they say "This was suppressed by Twitter" and he says "What's your twitter handle, I want to follow you" and they say "I don't have a Twitter account"
