Has very little to do with NATO?

He’s only been openly griping about it for decades and the growing influence of the west (US and other NATO countries, including the overthrow of their democratically elected government) in Ukraine over the last 10+ years pushed everything to the brink. Did you think he was going to let the west pull Ukraine into NATO without a fight? He’d be insane to.

I know Ray is a big Cato guy, not sure if it holds any water with you. Can you imagine if Putin was doing this on our border?

OK, Neville Chamberlain.  I’m sorry, but you have to be morally bankrupt to think authoritarian Putin is "the adult" in the room.

His imperial ambitions to expand Russia drove Ukraine towards NATO.  See also Finland and Sweden.  Putin now compares his place in history to that of Peter the Great.

We absolutely feed ourselves and produce a lot of what we use. Blame the corporations all you want—and you will because you’re a lefty—but shitty trade agreements, greedy unions and overregulation also had a LOT to do with outsourcing.

Problem for vegetables is they don’t currently have the equipment or the irrigation, and it’s super labor intensive, the agronomy is entirely different, and there are regulations here that don’t exist in other places.

Meanwhile, those other places are already equipped to grow those things, so it makes no sense to reengineer it here, and we’d have to literally import their workforce to do it here.

Someone on this board told me that the illegals weren't picking our crops

They still grow vegetables in Eastern Kankakee County.

They still grow vegetables in Eastern Kankakee County.

I personally know most of those farmers. They, and the pockets of commercial vegetable growers in the sand prairie area of Morton/Pekin, river valley of Vincennes IN, or the central sands of Wisconsin, never exited the business and thus still have the necessary equipment and knowledge to produce. They also have another thing in common—extremely sandy soil that is heavily irrigated. Many vegetables can’t handle saturated soils and have relatively little disease tolerance so they must be grown in soils that drain and can be watered on demand. Most commercial squashes and melons etc get sprayed with a lot of chemicals too.

I’m all for diversifying crop production in the US, but certain regions evolved to grow certain things for a reason. Wisconsin used to be the biggest of producer of wheat in the US and now grows very little. Much livestock has left the eastern corn belt and relocated further west where dryer conditions and cheaper land make feeding stock easier and more profitable. Poultry and hog production has grown in the mid Atlantic region the last couple of decades because the weather is milder.

The focus should be to eliminate the ethanol subsidy and get away from growing so much corn. What do we replace it with and how do we create a market big enough to make a relatively smooth transition that doesn’t put half the farms out of business?

Don't say the silent part out loud.  If he had been up for a cabinet position this would not have been disqualifying.  Concerning maybe.  Maybe.

Maybe if you are a brogrammer and want to have a career in Silicon Valley, posting a bunch of racist shit about Indians might not be the best plan. I can just imagine how this guys interview loops will go.

Musk, who as head of the Department of Government Efficiency has consolidated control over much of the federal government and is working to cut costs and shrink the workforce, posted on X that his team “just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants.” He said the money is intended for disaster relief and would be clawed back.

Elon Musk inaccurately accused FEMA on Monday of violating federal law by helping migrants.

New York officials denied Elon Musk’s misleading accusation that millions of dollars in federal disaster funds had gone to “luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants.”

Musk accused the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday of using $59 million in disaster funds to house undocumented migrants in New York hotels in an inaccurate post on the social media site X.

Musk gave no evidence to support his claim, and information from the city of New York indicated that money it's received to care for migrants was appropriated by Congress and allocated to the city last year by FEMA.

The city hasn't been notified of any pause in funding, spokeswoman Liz Garcia said. A statement noted that the city has received federal government reimbursements through the past week and said the matter would be discussed directly with federal officials.

Neither Hamilton nor Musk specified what kind of payments were involved. But the comments on X — reposted thousands of times — likely referred to payments made by the Shelter and Services Program, which gives money to reimburse cities, towns or organizations for immigration-related expenses.

FEMA did not respond to questions about the payments. But spokesman Trisha McLaughlin for the Department of Homeland Security — to which FEMA belongs — pointed to recent statements by Secretary Kristi Noem.

So the FEMA money WAS authorized to help illegals. Thanks for clearing that up. Let’s go ahead and gut that then, too.

"The Shelter and Services Program (SSP), as directed by Congress in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, is administered by FEMA in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).'
