If not the corporations that benefit, who then? The strapped working class? I agree the idea is stupid, but do we want state funded “free college” and a 50+% effective tax rate like Germany, where “eternal students” often drift in and out until they’re 30+? When you lower the perceived or actual price of something, people consume more of it.

The actual price of going to college is the opportunity cost of not being paid to go be an electrician or flip burgers during your healthiest youngest years. College is hard work that pays nothing other than the ability to go get a better paying job. The thing you are consuming by staying in college longer is your earning years.

If you drift in and out of college until you're 30+, even if tuition is free , you enter your 30's with no money.

Note I've always been an advocate that tuition should be free, but that's it. You still have to feed yourself and have somewhere to sleep, clothes to wear, a little beer money if that's your thing. So not only would college be expensive in terms of opportunity cost, but you are also paying money along the way without the income you would get from having a full time job.

To your first sentence - the answer is not "make corporations who benefit hire calculus instructors, build chemistry and physics labs" - it's raise taxes on the corporations to fund calculus instructors and build said labs at Universities. For some silicon valley startup, the cost of educating a couple of workers would be more than their entire series A VC funding.

There’s no shortage of money-saving targets in the federal government, Musk said, without offering any specifics.

“It’s very, very hard for people to care about spending someone else’s money,” he said.
“Actually, I know people in the government who do care about, just as a matter of principle, spending money effectively. And they try to do so, and they can’t. The system prevents them from doing so.”

"For example, I don't care about spending Tesla Shareholders money on my compensation package"

Not very long ago you were mad that they were making these promises. Now you’re mad they’re backing off on some of the more extreme claims. Meanwhile Nichi is doing to spend the next 4 years parsing everything Trump says for jokes he can take seriously and get upset or confused by

You pull non c-section babies out with it.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.
