Yeah. All they have to do is not fuck up and lose all of it. Elon is trying to lose it with his Twitter acquisition, lol.
There is something to be said for the lucky sperm club.
in his case he sort of fell ass backwards into a position where he could bluster his way into PayPal. Then he thought "electric car, cool" and blustered his way into there and fucked over some of the early Tesla people, and thought "Space - cool" and blustered his way into that. His timing was awesome in that the Government wants - probably correctly - to encourage EV development and he collected a lot of that money, and we neglected NASA and now are paying Musk for essential rocket launches. Add in that he has the bluster and charisma of Trump, which until you unpack it seems pretty great, and that ran the Tesla stock up beyond where it presumably should be.
The fact that most of this was luck, bluster, and dickishness as opposed to actual skill is being exposed - for both Trump and Musk.
If you look at Gates, Jobs, Bezos, Page/Brin, Zuckerberg, and Jensen, they were actually part of the creative and engineering process, founded their companies and built them by force of their own savvy and will. That's why their firms are on such solid footing. Not to say that some of them don't have their own pecadillos and screwups, but I can respect them a hell of a lot more than Musk.
